Fall Market at Tsútswecw submitted
The Adams River Salmon Society has a FALL MARKET on Thanksgiving weekend to welcome home the salmon to Tsútswecw Provincial Park, Lee Creek for spawning. The Society host annual events in the park to celebrate, educate and increase awareness of the sensitivity of the habitat for the salmon. If you have not been to the park recently you are missing some great additions. Not only did the park change its name from Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park to Tsútswecw Provincial Park in the spring 2019, but we have some technology items to enhance your visit. The Interactive Story Trail is already a favourite with our visitors, domestic as well as international. The story trail is recorded by elders and youth from the First Nations and local schools, and provides information on the habitat, salmon and the park. The Fall Market is schedules for the Thanksgiving weekend (October 12,

Interactive Guided Tours, Food Vendor, specialty coffee/ tea, Artisans, Music, Souvenirs and the interpretive log cabin will be open to the public. Of course, most importantly our Salmon (sub-dominant year) will be making their way home to Adams River to spawn. Come and welcome them home. Learn about the salmon – The unique journey from the ocean, to their freshwater birthplace to reproduce. The difficulties with many obstacles and dangers including wildlife and the treacherous fish ladders at Hell’s Gate on the Fraser River. Operation Christmas Child submitted by Carmen Miller
Operation Christmas Child is a handson project that brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes. It is one way to remind children suffering as a result of war, poverty, famine, disease and disaster that they are loved and not forgotten. Toys, Hygiene items, school supplies and other items are packed. Each year millions of shoeboxes are packed with gifts by people in Canada and nine other “sending” countries, and given to children in more than 100 “receiving” countries. 2018 World: 10,623,776 | Canada: 517,437 BC: 66,169 | Miller’s Cabin: 55 Miller’s Boutique and The Pet Vault is once again promoting this amazing gift of love. Miller’s will donate $1.00 for each packed shoebox returned to the store November 18-23, 2019. I challenge every business and individual to match or beat us in this challenge.

Council Meeting Highlights October 8, 2019 submitted by Village of Chase
Council held a regular meeting on Tuesday, October 8, 2019. Eight members of the public were in attendance. Council heard from Hazel Christie, Registered Professional Planner, regarding the importance of having a current Official Community Plan which provides guidance for Council in making many different types of decisions for the community. Ms. Christie explained that the Village’s existing OCP is from 2002 and relying on the information in a document this old, is much like using dial-up internet instead of the current service available. In order for a plan to be useful, meaningful and based on community input, she recommends that Council endeavour to get the OCP overhauled to meet current legislative, environmental and social needs. Council heard from the Secretary of the Chase Lions Club, Karen Bassett, regarding the lease of the RV Park to the Lions Club for two years. She read from a letter stating that: •
Because Council is only providing a two year lease, the Lions Club will not be doing any upgrades to the RV park during that term

Council gave third reading to 2020 4-Year Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 8772019 which when adopted, exempts all lands owned by local churches from property taxation for a four year period, 2020 through 2023. Clear Air Bylaw Council gave first, second and third readings to Clean Air Bylaw No. 881, 2019 and adopted an updated No Smoking Policy. Community Hall Rates Council gave first, second and third readings to updated Community Hall rental rates. Rainbow Crosswalks and Mill Park RV Park lease process Council received a letter from John Angus regarding rainbow crosswalks. They also received a letter from James Mintz supporting the request for proposals process for the Mill Park RV Park.
Inter-Community Business License Program Council gave Administration direction to draft an Inter-Community Business License Bylaw which will allow mobile business operators to obtain a multi-community business license for those communities participating in the program (Kamloops, Mart) Clearwater, Barriere, Logan Lake, Merritt, Lytton, Ashcroft, Lillooet, Clinton, Cache Creek, TKemlups Indian Band).
Variance to Zoning Regulations Council accepted a variance application for the siting of a carport on Pine Street which will now be referred to neighbouring property owners before coming back to Council for consideration. Cats Trespassing and Causing Damage Council received a letter from Carolyn Parks-Mintz and James Mintz regarding damage caused by cats trespassing onto other peoples’ properties. Citizens on Patrol Council received the Summer Activity report from Chase Citizens on Patrol – a letter will be written to the organization thanking them for their hard work and dedication to our community. Chase & District Festival Society Council received the summary regarding the 2019 Lakeside Music Series – a letter will be written to the Society thanking them for providing these programs for our community. Council directed Administration to meet with Citizens on Patrol and the Festival Society to discuss signage needs, dogs in parks during events, and other matters. Council received a letter from the Honourable Katrine Conroy, Minister of Children and Family Development regarding October being proclaimed by the Province of BC as Foster Family Month. Mayor Crowe announced that the Chase Lions Club be awarded a 2 year extension to their existing lease of the Mill Park RV park lands, that the club be required to provide annual income statements from the park’s operations, that the club be required to provide a detailed account of expenditures for community benefits from the revenues of the park, and that the lease be put out to request for proposals by November 30, 2020 for the 2022 operational year. The meeting concluded at 5:10 p.m. The next regular meeting of Council will be held on October 22, 2019 starting at 4:00 p.m.

Chamber News submitted by Chase Chamber
On September 4th a Special General Meeting was held to discuss the future of the Chamber. The Board is currently seeking direction from membership on what direction the Chamber should move, as efforts and activities (such as workshops, promotions, and dinner meeting) over the past couple of years have had minimal response or engagement. Another key piece of the dialogue is the challenges of retaining a Executive Director for the Chamber, especially given the limited hours and compensation available. Based on feedback from members and what was shared at the SGM, the Board is proposing to shift the Chamber's focus towards tourism services in a hope that increased resources, marketing, and positive experiences will translate into customer growth and business expansion for Chamber members and the overall community. The Chamber has unofficially lead visitor services for many years and the Board believes that this responsibility needs to be more inclusive of other interested parties and organizations through the Tourism Chase Society. As host of the Society,
the Chamber can access additional grants that it is not currently eligible for under the Board of Trade Act, and it will also allow the Society to utilize the Chamber’s existing relationships and funding agreements. Potential areas that can immediately be addressed include assembling a multi-stakeholder board for the Society, updating the Town Map Board, addressing out-date or missing signage throughout the village, and conducting a review of the Tourism GAP analysis from earlier years. This less direct path to economic development may help the Chamber engage more members and citizens, and help elevate a level of pride within the community. One of the first steps on this path is the hiring of the new Visitor Centre Manager, Debby Mould, who will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Visitor Centre and tourism related services. If you are interested in shaping the future of tourism services in Chase, or have any comments on this direction the Board is exploring, please reach out to any Board member or email admin@ chasechamber.com

Chasing the Heat submitted by Scott Koch, Chase Heat
Last weekend an anomaly with the local pucksters only playing one game. To make up for that, Lana Adamson and friends held the 1st “Beat the Heat” 5K challenge Sunday the 5th. With bibs on and a variety of footwear including runners, walkers and sneakers (cheaters?) the gathered ran off from Memorial Park alongside two dozen HEAT players. Everyone came back winners, but the best of the best was Desiree Fairbrother female category, Ethan Gremaud male and Xander Denis the quickest player. The evening before, the 4th of October, the Chase HEAT played a very entertaining game versus the Fernie GHOSTRIDERS. Bus legs were non existant as the visitors roared off to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Coach Brad Fox apparently said very little to his troops and the message was delivered loud and clear. The 2nd period saw a different local squad as they evened the contest at 2-2 after 40. Breckin Erichuk got the ball rolling from Tyson Lampreau and Evan Vinterlik. 11 minutes later on the man advantage hard working Gavin Mattey fired a beauty past the Rider keeper from Matthew Poole and Colton Nikiforuk. In the 3rd Moose Jaw’s Hayden Wiebe from Brandon Gremaud and Luke Recchi put the HEAT in the lead. However, the Ghosts busted loose for an even up tally and after regulation play it was 3-3. So off to sudden death 4 on 4 high speed mayhem with neither team accomplishing the elusive goal. After 60 seconds of catch your breath, guzzle some water and whack your buddy on the shinguards it was time for 3 on 3 sudden death. The fans were on the edge of their seats, you could cut the tension in the chilly arena and then the puck dropped...11 seconds later Erichuk from Cam Watson dipsy doodled and placed the winner in the visitor’s net. Brand spanking new tender Vince Benedetto from Edmonton denied 26 of 29 shots in his flashy debut for the win and the game puck. The Fernie GHOSTRIDERS received a point from the regulation time tie and then did two big favours for the HEAT. They beat the 100 Mile House WRANGLERS on Saturday and followed that up with a Sunday smackdown of the Storm from Kamloops. Heat Beat: Aaron Hill was traded to the Osoyoos Coyotes for a player development fee and joins former teammate Owen Lee. The HEAT wish those two classy young fellas all the best with their new team. The HEAT staff continue to tinker in their workshop. Have you ever wanted to win some money? Not only can you win through the 50/50 at the games but this season we are also running a Progressive 50/50 all season long! All that money will leave such a succulent sound. This weekend the HEAT are playing in Spokane Washington and against the Beaver Valley NIGHTHAWKS in Montrose BC. You can watch on www.playfullscreen.com. Next home action, Friday night the 18th versus the Kamloops STORM.
