any hands, many stitches, many pieces of cloth. The Chase Country Quilters, twenty-five strong are a “quiet” Chase treasure. Why a treasure? They are a group of friendly ladies that meet and sew on Monday & Wednesday mornings at Parkside Community. Not a guild, not a society, not a licensed organization – but a club. In 2019 the club gave away 150 quilts. The Chase public health nurse distributed a quilt to each new baby on her first home visit (36 quilts). Fire victims received a quilt. The Royal Inland Hospital received 99 quilts – cancer clinic (38), dialysis (5), pediatrics (56). Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home, Kamloops

received 5 quilts for their beds. Organizations in Chase received quilts to help with fundraising – Team Chase, Chase Heat Hockey, Chase Legion Telethon, Chase Rotary Auction, Chase Curling Club, Chase Museum. The Quilters are not in it for the money, but for the joy of making and giving. Once a year quilts and handmade items are exhibited and sold to raise money for fabric, batting, thread and operating costs. This allows them to continue using their skills to comfort and assist others. Come out and support these ladies at the 2019 Show & Sale, Saturday Oct 26 at Creekside Seniors 10 am – 2 pm. In addition, they accept fabric donations too. Thank you to everyone for your support.
250-679-8884 In this month of Thanksgiving, I want to express my gratitude for all the support and great clients that make Crowning Touch such a success. Together we continue to help support a 7 year old girl in Rwanda grow up with education and safety; we have been able to host a sedation free dog dental clinic which was a raving success; and we keep our dogs looking great, feeling great (after a lovely mineral spa) and happy. We are indeed blessed! A quick reminder; book soon for the Christmas season as the days are filling up fast. Darla, Crowning Touch

COP: "Thank You Chase" Submitted by: Joan Anderson, President Chase Citizens on Patrol
Chase Citizens on Patrol wish to thank all those who have supported our work in Chase throughout the summer. The appreciation expressed by so many members of the community is very important to us and encourages our volunteers to continue our efforts to help to keep the community safe. We are especially grateful to the “Helping Hand”, the great folks from “Chabelas”, the “Chase Festival Society”, Áylmer Road Storage”, Chase Country Christmas” and the “Village of Chase” for their ongoing support through donations and grants (in-kind and monetary). Their generosity allows us to focus our volunteer hours on our work in the community, rather than having to fundraise to cover our significant equipment and fuel costs. Chase Citizens on Patrol are proud to report that in spite of a severe shortage of members, we have been able to continue to serve the community in a variety of ways. In the first 6 months of our fiscal year (April – September) our 13 members gave more than 800 hours in service to the community. These services include Crime Prevention through

vehicle patrols and foot patrols, traffic monitoring (Speed Watches, Distracted Driving Watches), and the monitoring of crowds at public events such as parades, fairs and concerts. We also wish to thank Sergeant Kennedy, Corporal Linklater, and Constables Gien and Ford for their on-going support, training and encouragement. Special thanks to Brandi Nakazawa for all the extra things she does to make our jobs easier. Our members really appreciate the opportunity to work with all of the exceptionally fine officers and staff members of the Chase RCMP Detachment. Chase Citizens on Patrol look forward to many years of continued service in the community. We encourage more of you to come out to join us as the trained and authorized extra eyes and ears of the RCMP here in Chase. We can offer you a wide variety of different ways in which you can be an integral part of keeping Chase safe. All interested persons over the age of 19 are welcome to join us for our regular meetings at 7:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month at Chase Creekside Center.

Hockey Calendar Raises Funds for PeeWees submitted by Cavelle Layes
It is that time of year again, the skates have been dusted off, the distinct smell of hockey gear is back in the air, and caffeine fueled hockey parents are filling the arena stands during the early weekend hours. It is hockey time again and along with the highs and lows of the hockey season comes the much-loved hockey fundraisers. The Chase peewee team are bringing something new to the fundraiser mix this year with the introduction of the Hockey Spirit calendar. The 2019-2020 calendars feature detailed hockey themed artwork from Elizabeth and Brian Urlacher. The pair’s artwork was commissioned to be gifted to those being inducted into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018 and their
calendars have already helped raise over $3 million dollars in the few years they have been creating them. The pair create pictures that all hockey fans can relate too, whether they are a throw back to the ‘good ol’ days’ or they reflect more modern themes such as an image from last year’s calendar that featured a door front with its light on and hockey sticks laid to rest at its side, in tribute to the Humboldt Broncos. For those who have kids or grandkids who play hockey, these calendars come with a special feature. Each week has a box to track their stats such as goals, assists
and saves, with each month having a place to track their monthly overall stats. In the very back of the calendar is a place for their hockey photo as well as team photo, autographs from their teammates, a space to record their favourite memories of the hockey season, and more, turning these calendars into a keepsake of their hockey careers once the year is up. The Chase peewee team will be selling the calendars up until Dec 21 or while quantities last, for $20 a piece. Those who would like to purchase a calendar as a gift to be mailed anywhere in Canada, can do so for $25. Money raised from this fundraising effort helps offset the cost of new jerseys, tournament fees and bringing in specialty trainers. The calendars will be arriving this week, however pre-orders are also available by emailing chasepeeweehockey@gmail. com. Only a limited number of copies will be available, so get your order in soon.

BEAUTY ALL AROUND US submitted by Dick Hermann, Chase & District Museum and Archives
The world around us is filled with beauty, in many forms: the smile of a little child; the sound of children’s laughter, the sun on the hills and mountains around us; the lakes and streams in the surrounding countryside; the masses of colour, or the individual blossoms, in your garden—or maybe in your neighbour’s garden; the spectacular colour of fall, which is fast approaching; etc., etc., etc. Unfortunately, many of us do not really see the beauty in our world. We look at it, but do not really see it. How many of us drive back and forth to Kamloops time after time, looking at the hills that we are driving through, but not really seeing the sun and shadows on them, the colours and shapes that they display, their immense and quiet beauty. We are often so absorbed with our own problems and concerns that we really do not see the beauty that surrounds us. I am old enough to be a bit old-fashioned, and I can remember my mother showing me many things and triggering my interest and curiosity as to how they got to be the way they were. Then, when I was ten years old my mother gave me a Kodak box camera, and ever since then I have searched for scenes of interest and beauty that I could record, for my albums and for sharing with family and friends. (I did not have much money in those days and cost was a major consideration for every picture taken, because one had first to buy the film for the camera and then pay for processing the film and printing the pictures on it. Not like today when you take pictures with your phone and can take as many as you want without incurring extra costs.) In those days the phrase my mother often used was “stop and smell the roses”. (I have already admitted to being a bit old-fashioned.) But that phrase still applies today. It is well worthwhile, even important, to slow down a little once in a while to really see, and benefit from seeing, the beauty that is all around us. I have attached a few pictures that show the type of thing I mean. And bear in mind that these are only photos, not the
real thing. They are simply examples of what can be seen, and enjoyed, if you keep your eyes and your mind open. And so, you may ask, what does this have to do with the Chase Museum? And the answer is that the Museum has records of many of the things that have happened during the development of this part of the world, in pictures and in written descriptions of historical events. Many of these events have a beauty of their own in that they represent completion of projects that were envisioned, planned and completed by individuals, families, and businesses that were active in the development at the time. All of those records are available to individuals and groups who might want to explore the contributions that their friends and/or relatives made to the development of this area. Museum staff is available to assist anyone who may be interested in doing some research. As of the end of September 2019, current memberships represent involvement in Museum activities of approximately 250 individuals. The support of its members is greatly appreciated by the Museum. The on-going operation of the Museum is dependent upon grants that the Museum obtains from various sources. The availability and size of these grants depends to some extent on the number of active members, because this is seen as a measure of the level of support for the Museum from within the community. The early months of the year are historically the period when membership drops to its lowest level, so please remember to renew your membership when it comes due. Changes have been made that simplify the renewal of membership and the obtaining of new memberships--$10 for an individual and $15 for a family membership. Phone the Museum at 250679-8847 and we will provide assistance to minimize the effort required to obtain your membership. Your support of the Museum is important to us, and is greatly appreciated.

Festival Society Reports on Music Series submitted by Chase and District Festival Society
The Chase & District Festival Society was once again proud to host the Village of Chase Lakeside Music Series with ten days of entertainment scheduled between July and August. The cumulative attendance was even higher than previous years, which is a strong indicator of community support for this initiative. The $19,000 in financial aid received from the Village to host Canada Day and Music on the Lake on its behalf, was used towards hiring professional sound technicians and equipment, securing outstanding local and traveling performers, and other event costs like Canada Day fireworks, marketing materials, insurance, and supplies. As in previous years, the remaining expenses ($4,993.96) were covered by donations from the business community, a grant from the Government of Canada, and profits generated from the beer garden. A summary of expenses for all ten events is captured below:
The Festival Society would like to highlight the number of volunteer hours that were contributed to the event by Society and community members. It is estimated that a total of 725 hours were provided before, during, and
after the events. At minimum wage, this would equal a contribution of $10,041.25, which, when combined with the funds donated from the beer garden is an important factor when considering what the Festival Society offers as a host of the Lakeside Music Series. A debrief meeting has already occurred to review the summer's programming and look ahead to 2020's events. Overall, the Society was pleased with the attendance, quality of performers, and support from Village Administration and Public Works for the events. There continues to be increased interest from musicians to have the opportunity to play here in Chase, at one of the most beautiful venues in BC, which does help in securing acts. However, there always seems to be difficulty in finding the appropriate budget to properly recognize the value of these acts and the Society is currently seeking other grant opportunities and may request support from the Village to help secure additional funds. There are also a few items that the Society would appreciate the opportunity to speak with Village Administration about to help improve efficiencies and safety at future events, these items include upgrades to the bandshell, smoking, parking, dogs, parade logistics, and insurance matters. Once again, thank you for trusting the Festival Society to organize the Lakeside Music Series and for investing in vibrant community programming.
