Chase Fish and Game update October 2021

by Helen Dalin secretary help with outdoor jobs. This work bee will help the club get ready for The Friends and Family Fun Archery Day for our membership. We really hope we can hold this on Sat. October 30th at the range. This should be a fun filled day for families and a good time for members to invite a friend along to try something new! A big thank you to all the citizens of Chase and North Shuswap who have supported our club and bought some of our online The Big Fall 50/50 tickets at Nexus raffle. One person is going to have an awesome Halloween. Tickets are still available until October 30th. It has been great to see such support since we haven’t been able to fundraise for 2 years now, but our expenses have stayed the same. One ticket is $5, but for a better deal you can buy 5 tickets for $20 and get them for $4 each. If you haven’t bought your ticket yet please go to the following link https:// chaseanddistrictfishandgame.rafflenexus. com/ or scan the QR code above. All you need is a credit card to buy the tickets and an email address to have your numbers emailed to you. If all tickets get sold there is a possibility to win up to $25,000.

CDFGC finally was able to have its first meeting back at Creekside on Sept 20th. It was a great feeling to be back to normal. The range is open again and the new pistol shed is already getting used. Brooms and dustpans have been put in the pistol shed and the rifle shed for shooters to sweep up their used shells before they leave and put them in the labeled bins. There is also oil buckets in the sheds for misfires. CDFGC has been able to have two Trap and Skeet practices since reopening. New shooters are still coming out which is awesome. Members can always bring guests. Trap and Skeet is the second Sunday of the month except in October it will be held on October 3rd to avoid Thanksgiving weekend conflicts. CDFGC has not been able to have a work bee yet this year so one has been planned for Sat. October 2nd at 10 am. Members need to bring shovels, rakes, weed eaters, gloves, wheelbarrows, garden trailers. There is a lot of mowing, weed eating and wood and general clean up needed after the pistol shed build. Wood needs to be moved and stored. Gravel put down on the road, etc. There will be a list of jobs that need to be completed. Bring any equipment that will

A PASTORAL PERSPECTIVE:

How was your summer? by Tyler Harper

How was your summer? My usual answer is “great”. After all, with swimming in the lake, our family playing at the beach, and great family hikes, summers are pretty wonderful here in Chase. Earlier this week someone asked me this question and I responded, without thinking much about it, in my typical fashion — great— because of my memories of all of the above great experiences. But then I paused and said “actually, it wasn’t that great”. I had to admit that with heat waves, fire smoke, evacuation alerts, and the loss of a parent, it had been a hard time. I needed to be able to give myself grace not to be ‘great’, that I had experienced a challenging and draining time. For many of us it is a near default to answer that we are ‘fine’, ‘good’, or ‘great’, without any thought. Maybe we do this because we simply don’t want to think about ourselves or maybe we just don’t want to feel vulnerable. But collectively, things aren’t great for us. After an intense summer and almost 20 months of continual pandemic challenges, along with rising tensions surrounding many of these issues, I think that we should all accept the reality that some things are hard, it’s not that we are weak or incompetent, but that our society is faced by some things not seen in generations. These days are stressful, for all of us. As we experience a sort of collective trauma having lived in an unsettled life for an extended period of time, we might notice a change in our attitudes and actions. How we experience life

and how we act changes when we are under stress. In these settings we can easily shift from disagreeing with a person’s ideas to disrespecting them as individuals. We are all aware of stories of people lashing out, full of anger and frustration and hurt. While stress might not be a fun experience, there is nothing wrong with acknowledging our emotions and our experiences — our losses and frustrations. Yet, no level of stress or trauma is an excuse for disrespecting our fellow humans. One of the central beliefs of the Christian faith is that all of humanity, every person who has ever been born has been created in the image of God and that they are loved by God. To disrespect a person is to disrespect someone who carries the image of God and an object of God’s love. I hope that we can all admit when we aren’t doing well; there is nothing wrong with that. But what is dangerous for others — as well as ourselves— is when we begin to treat others as being less human, less of a person, less of an image bearer. When we deny the human-ness of others we end up hurting them, but we also end up hurting ourselves — because we all share in that common humanity, we are all image bearers. My name is Tyler, and I am not always OK, and I hope that’s ok with you. Tyler Harper (tyler@chasechurch.com) is the Pastor at Chase Evangelical Free Church

A public hearing was held for the Village’s proposed new Official Community Plan. Comments from the public included concerns about removing any land from Parks and Recreation for uses such as General Residential. Other comments included support for Food Security and Environmental protections. It was recommended that more ‘action’ language be used to show real commitment to the policies laid out in the plan. Council heard from Amit Goel of Goel Solutions Ltd. and Kevin Krueger of Krueger Consulting Ltd., in support of the Village participating in the Provincial Nominee Program Entrepreneurship Immigration Regional Pilot (PNP EIRP) and the Rural and Norther Immigration Pilot (RNIP), programs that bring immigrant entrepreneurs into small communities in BC to start new businesses and provide for employees for businesses having difficulty recruiting staff. Council passed a resolution to write a letter of support for the Adams River Salmon Society in their application for funding through the Fairs, Festivals and Events Recovery Fund to assist them with the Salute for the Sockeye Events in 2022. It was announced by Councillor Scott, Council’s liaison to the Adams River Salmon Society that they are receiving grant funding from the Pacific Salmon Foundation and BC Parks and

Recreation to ensure the 2022 Salute to the Sockeye Events will be successful. Members of Council provided their reports on activities they were engaged in over the past number of weeks in their roles as elected officials for the Village of Chase. Council adopted Municipal Ticket Information Bylaw Amendment Bylaw No. 9092021. This bylaw includes fines for placement of non-recyclable materials in recycling containers. Council considered Administration’s report relating to the PNP EIRP and RNIP and referred the matter back to Administration to provide additional information. Council passed a resolution to petition the Provincial Government to join the Vernon and area RNIP boundary to take advantage of this program. The Lions RV Park Lease was ratified which will be in place from January 1, 2022 until December 31, 2026, once the existing lease expires. Public notification will be sent out regarding the lease in the coming months.
