Pedestrian Bridge
Prior to Council's September 28, 2021 meeting, a small ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the Willson Park end of the bridge. We are so fortunate to have received funding from both the Federal and Provincial governments, to move our Active Transportation Plan forward. The bride crossing is identified in the ATP as being an integral part of the Active Transportation Network for
the community. The bridge crossing not only fits with the ATP, it provides safe access for children to and from school and creates a connection to the downtown area from the south side of the community. The Village is now working on the approaches to both sides of the bridge so they are less steep and more easily accessed by everyone who wishes to use the connection.

by Sarah at Shuswap Adventure Girl www.shuswapadventuregirl.ca @shuswap_adventure_girl on Facebook and Instagram
Are you wondering about STROLLER FRIENDLY forest adventure walks in our area? I remember when I was too and the information is not easy to find! Here is a list of great stroller walks/ hikes in the Shuswap area: 1. The Adam’s Gorge Trail at the Wade Road Trail (aka the raft pullout) in the North Shuswap (Tsútswecw Provincial park). 2. The Raven and Foreshore Trail in Salmon Arm near the Warf. 3. Herald Provincial Park starting in the day use parking lot, along Reinecker Creek combined with Margaret Falls. Sunny brae-Canoe point road. 4. The Larch Hills! There is a large extensive trail system in there, year around and the fall colours are amazing! Plus there is a neat Old-Growth loop in here featuring some of the oldest and largest old-growth trees in the Shuswap and B.C.

5. Skmana Lake trail system (also a Nordic park in the winter) very nice, wide and easy trails! Located near Adam’s Lake. 6. Sicamous, the Eagle River Nature Park is outstanding! One of my favourite family trails in the Shuswap. 7. The Adam’s river viewing platform and island trails at Tsútswecw provincial park in the North Shuswap. And right now it is the Salute to the Salmon! 8. The Balmoral Bluffs in Blind Bay is suitable for a trail type stroller and is a great workout! Plus a view at the bluffs. 9. Little Mountain Trails in Salmon Arm! Lots of wide, easy pathways in this sweet trail system. 10. Scatchard Mountain Switchback Trail in Chase. This is a historic packer route and is a great workout with kids and strollers in tow! Salmon Arm Chamber Vaccine Passport and Member Response Press Release , Salmon Arm Chamber of Commerce
On Monday, August 23, the BC Government announced their Vaccination Passport program. The Salmon Arm Chamber of Commerce recognizes that this program is part of the larger strategy to curb the spread of COVID-19 both to avoid the strains on our healthcare system and to avoid a complete shutdown of businesses. While the Chamber supports the initiatives to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and its variants, we do call on the Government of BC to ensure that the planned vaccine passport does not further burden businesses through this pandemic. Businesses are facing extreme difficulties finding and keeping employees. Enforcement of these provincial health mandates is an ongoing concern and simply adds to the pressures on the employees.
unfolds, and advocate for our businesses to minimize the impact on the delivery of these programs.
The Chamber’s focus is to share new information with our members as it
The most common concern voiced was that of worry for the front-line workers
In our recent survey poll to our members regarding the vaccine passport, we heard the following: When asked if they support having a vaccination verification system (passport) to limit those entering their business who are not fully vaccinated, we had a close rate of 50% saying yes they were in support and 41.7% who did not support the strategy. 75% of the respondents said they do not have plans to restrict staff or customers coming into their business based on their vaccination status. 15.3% indicated they do have plans.
having to enforce the program, and the additional responsibility of enforcement being placed on the shoulders of businesses once again. The Salmon Arm Chamber of Commerce is committed to continuing working with its regional partners, tourism associations of British Columbia, and the BC Chamber of Commerce to advocate at the provincial level for reasonable and effective implementation of plans moving forward. We hope that the BC Government will continue to be open to alternative solutions. And we ask everyone in our community to, despite differences, be patient and respectful with one another as we continue through this pandemic. Sincerely, President, Board of Directors and Staff of the Salmon Arm Chamber of Commerce

Prepare yourself for winter driving in Chase submitted by Gord Woodward, Communications manager, Road Safety at Work
Even the most experienced drivers in Chase can find winter driving challenging. To help keep yourself safe, consider postponing d r i v i n g when road and weather conditions are poor If travelling is essential, planning ahead could help prevent problems when you’re behind the wheel for pleasure or work. The Shift into Winter awareness campaign aims to encourage drivers to change their driving behaviour by adopting winter safe driving practices. Travel during daylight, if possible, and know these basic winter driving steps before you go: • Slow down to match road conditions • Maintain a safe following distance (at least 4 seconds) • Know how to brake safely and get out of a skid Here are some other tips from ShiftIntoWinter.ca to prepare yourself for winter driving. (If your organization employs people who drive for work, the website has information to help you update your winter driving policies and procedures.) 1. Plan your route Check DriveBC for the latest highway conditions, highway cams, and weather forecasts. You can also call 1-800-550-4997 for road information 24 hours a day. Select the safest route and give yourself extra time to get to your destination. Tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to arrive.
2. Check your phone Make sure it’s charged before leaving. Bring a charger since cell batteries can drain quickly in very cold weather. Don’t use your phone while driving for any reason. And don’t leave it in the car for extended periods of time. 3. Wear comfortable clothing You don’t want it to restrict your movement while driving. Bring warm winter boots, coat, gloves, and a hat with you in case you need to get out of your vehicle. 4. Have an emergency kit and plan Always carry an emergency kit. Don’t panic if you get stuck or stranded. Stay with your vehicle for safety and warmth. Open your window slightly to make sure you have a supply of fresh air. Call for roadside assistance or 911 if it’s an emergency. Avoid overexertion and exposure. 5. Clear and warm up your vehicle before driving Scrape snow and ice from all windows, lights, mirrors, the hood, and the roof. Wait for windows to defrost completely for visibility.
