One does not need climbing gear to reach the summit of many Shuswap mountains, as for many there are hiking trails that go to the peaks. Most of these peaks can be accessed with

If you can navigate the maze of logging roads above Deep Creek to find the trail head parking lot, it is a just a short hike to the top of Mount Ida, where the vistas of the valley and lake are absolutely stunning and the unique geology is fascinating. There is also a longer trail through the forest along the ridge to the East peak. Thankfully, there is an excellent free trail guidebook produced by the Shuswap Trail Alliance and Shuswap Tourism that makes the perfect companion for one’s ideal staycation. The print version is available for free at many locations or the guide can also be accessed online at shuswaptrails.ca. POSTSCRIPT This column focused on hiking trails. There is so much more to do in the Shuswap, from golfing, boating, canoeing, biking and swimming. Staycation trips can also include focusing on our rich heritage, including the R.J. StrongStart for kids under 5 submitted by Miss Kary

To our Fans, Friends and Family: Thank you all for your undying loyalty and support of the Chase Heat. We cannot express what this has meant to us over the last year and a half. We cannot wait to have you back in our building cheering us on while we send the other teams packing. This year was supposed to be our redo of our 10th anniversary. We had some big plans which have been temporarily put on hold until we can accommodate all of you in our home safely under the provincial health orders. As of right now the health orders only allow us to have 50 spectators in our building so for the first exhibition game we won’t be having any walk up sales at the door. We will be limiting our seats to 50 season ticket holders for this first exhibition game only, and at that we will have to have a lottery for them as well. Our games will be broadcast on hockey tv all season for home viewing as well. We will have to abide by the mask and vaccine mandates put out by our health authorities in order to accommodate any fans in our building. We will update all of you in regards to seating capacity and health updates as soon as we have them, as early as before the next exhibition game in the hopes we can have all of you there. Thank you Sincerely, The Chase Heat

Haldane StrongStart is an early learning program which provides school-based early learning services for adults and their young children, aged birth to five, at no cost to families. Both children and adults can benefit from attending StrongStart– children have access to high-quality learning environments and benefit from social interactions while the adults who accompany them learn new ways to support learning, both at the program and at home.Haldane Strong Starts hours are 9am to 11am~ On all regular school days. Registration is happening this week, please contact Kary by text 250-574-7108 or find us on Facebook @ Haldane StrongStart. A healthy snack is served at 10:30ish each morning. Each week there are different art activities for children to create. Toys, puzzles, and books are changed regularly. Miss Kary, a qualified early childhood educator, leads learning activities, including stories, music and art to help children get ready for success in kindergarten. Parents and caregivers attending Haldane StrongStart

programs can expect to participate in organized sessions like story time, in play activities, and in serving a healthy snack. Parents and caregivers are likely to discover new ways to support their children’s learning at home, and may make valuable connections with others attending the program. Its all FREE During COVID some rules have changed. StrongStart is longer a drop in program, families must sign up for spots. I have a limited amount of adults that can be in my class, this keeps us from over crowding. Adults must wear a mask during their time inside. Everyone will need to enter and exit through my back fire exit door and wash their hands when they arrive. I'm still able to sever snack but it must all be package and handed out by the facilitator Common Questions • Do I have to stay with my child? Yes, a parent, guardian or the child's caregiver needs to attend with the child during their play at StrongStart More on page 12...
