Village office bids fond farewell to Sue Bepple submitted by Joni Heinrich, Village of Chase
Sue Bepple, long time employee with the Village of Chase, will be bidding us farewell, her last day with us at the office will be Friday September 27, 2019. FSue U L Lhas C O worked L O U R with us since April 2009, first starting with us part-time, and moving to full-time in 2012. Sue has contributed a great deal to our operations over the years. Having lived in Chase for 27 years, and having previously worked at the Chase Medical Clinic, Sue is well connected, and has a vast knowledge of our community members. She can also help us when we need to know what happened during the flood of 2006, or how many people attended the Canada Day celebrations in 2015. Sue not only performs a wide range of office duties, Sue for many years chaired the committee that organized Canada Day events for Chase. Her event planning skills have been very valuable in providing quality entertainment, activities and parade participants so that we can all celebrate Canada Day with the traditional Chase spirit. Sue has also been
very involved in organizing volunteer appreciation events, the grand opening event of the new wharf at Memorial park, and most recently the Village’s 50th anniversary 1 - Ccelebrations. OLOUR Sue has also helped the Village support the local art community by organizing the display of different local artists’ work in our Council Chamber. Not only has this supported local artists, it has beautified our Council chamber. Sue has made the decision that she wishes to spend more time with her husband and family, and she deserves after many years of service to the Village of Chase, to now dedicate more of her time to her husband, children, friends and personal interests. Happy happy retirement Sue! Everyone is invited to Sue’s farewell Open House, at the Village office, Friday September 27, 2019 from 1 to 4 p.m. Please join Sue for a piece of cake and cup of coffee, to give your best wishes to Sue on her retirement.

CHASE MEMORIAL BEACH to experience “Life in the Fast Lane” Eagle Eyes Tribute Band September 28, 2019 submitted by Bev Iglesias
Eagle Eyes’ is a tribute band to the legendary music of the ’EAGLES’. Eagle Eyes has taken great care and dedication recreating the harmonies and capturing the LIVE true magic within the harmonies that the Eagles are renowned for. Hailing from Southern Vancouver Island, BC, the four members of Eagle Eyes have over 120 years of combined experience as professional touring musicians honing their musical and vocal skills. Eagle Eyes audiences are being captivated by the band’s live performances and natural vocal harmonies, not to mention the music. This bands love for the Eagles songs helps them construct and finesse their ongoing sold-out performances! Crossing over from classic rock to country rock with an extensive repertoire of Eagles hits, Eagle Eyes is a ‘must see’ for all Eagles fans! Jack Gunderson/ Bass & Lead Vocals Jack fills the vocal roll of Glenn Frey & Timothy B Schmidt. Always the dedicated singer and harmony lover, Jack studied music in college before deciding to ‘hit the road’ and tour the rock circuit. With over 30 yrs. performing experience in western Canada and the States, Jack brings these contributions to the tribute. Jack also composes, has multiple live and recording projects under his belt and works full time as a musician. Jason Dunajski / Guitars & Lead Vocals Jay fills the vocal roll of Don Henley & Randy Meisner while filling much of the Don Felder guitar roll. He is a graduate of Musicians Institute (G.I.T.) and has had considerable experience touring with ’Soundawg’. Jay is a long-time member of’The Joint Chiefs,’ works as a full-time musician and is certainly a key voice within the tribute band. Ray Harvey/ Guitars & Lead Vocals Ray fills the roll of Joe Walsh and with the help of his precise slide playing and powerful vocals, he is a force to be reckoned with! Ray is a longtime member of iconic Canadian rock band ’Kick Axe’ and has worked with several music industry giants including ’Rock and Hyde’. Ray is currently a full-time musician performing with multiple local acts including Shagster and The Joint Chiefs. Kenneth Ermter/ Drums & Lead Vocals Ken is a veteran drummer, harmony meister,
multi-talented producer/recording artist and all-around musician/performer. With over 35 years of entertaining people all over the world, Ken sings Don, Randy and the necessary Eagles harmonies that all of Eagle Eyes bring to the table. Ken works as a full-time musician currently performing with Deborah Pitre, Accidental Super Band, Malloomba Boogie Band Yes, this Eagle’s Tribute band plays the music that had Don Henley, Glenn Frey and others singing about. On September 28, 2019 “take it easy” and let the “Rocky Mountain Way” take you back in time. Don’t be disappointed, this end of Summer 2019 band will “take it to the limit”!
STIFF WHISKERS – OPENING ACT This North Shuswap Band’s music are new to the Shuswap playing together just a short 10 months. BIG
THANK YOU to them For Making the Sunflower Possible Every Week
Hello Again Everyone! Lots of fun stuff happening at the lanes this past week. Some big games have been thrown, our leagues are beginning to fill, and we’ve already got tournament news to share! I’d like to start off by congratulating Jim Dunn (Blind Bay) for a massive roll-off game of a 393 last week! I wasn’t here to see it, but for those of you who aren’t too “bowling savvy” that is an UNREAL score! Way to go Jim. There has also been an ongoing joke this past week about firing our lovely new employee Amy, because it turns out she’s a better bowling than her boss. Settle down everyone, she’s still with us. But she did throw her very first 300 game this past Wednesday night! She totalled a whopping 700+ triple to end her evening. We held our Invitational Open Team Tryouts this past Sunday, and congratulations to the following people: Derek Vigue, Matthew Griffin, Lyle Coates, Darcy Munday, Shelley Munday, Amy Frech, and Sam Steil! These
bowlers will represent Chase at the Open Championships being held here on October 5th and 6th. Make us proud! And finally, the most exciting news of the week! A local Club 55+ team from Chase headed down to Kelowna last week to participate in the prestigious BC Summer Games. There were a total of twenty 5 pin bowling teams participating, and our little team from Chase BC ended up placing first overall! A massive congratulations to John & Donna Mosimann, Ken & Karen Baker, and Kari Koivisto on their well deserved victory. Not only are they BC Summer Game Champions, but they will also be representing British Columbia in the Canadian Senior Games being held in Kamloops in August 2020. Way to go everyone! Don’t forget, we still have availability on our Night and Club 55 Leagues, it’s never too late to join! Come and have a ball at Village Lanes.

HITS AND MISSES – OPENING WEEK submitted by Scott Koch, Chase Heat
Excitement, trepidation, joy, anxiety are a few words that describe junior hockey players, staff, family and fans when the 2019-20 KIJHL regular season kicked off in Chase this past week. A brief reminder from last season, one of the youngest teams in the league, 12 rookies made it to the end of the season, 12 students at Chase Secondary and 14 wins and 21 one goal games lost. A short season including missing the playoffs, however reason for a lot of optimism for this season. Jump forward 7 months, a huge part of the crew back, some astute trades and recruits to upgrade, older, bigger, different mind set, 7 rookies to start the season and 3 students at CSS. The players and staff are very serious about the goal they wish to achieve. The hard work at practices and dryland training generates what we will call happy sweat, while the lungs burn and muscles scream for relief, the sheen on their faces is feel good. A one for all and all for one mentality is being absorbed in the “room” and on the ice. Wherever they go, whatever they do, they are there for each other. The season opener at home, a full harvest moon, Friday the 13th of September, Johnny Cash singing a ballad at 7:00 pm, the lights dim and the team steps on the ice, no fanfare, no announcement, it’s time to get to work. Our friends from Armstrong, the North Okanagan KNIGHTS are here to face off versus our Chase HEAT. In the 1st period the visitors suck some oxygen out of the Art Holding Memorial Arena by taking a 2 goal lead. With 15 plus minutes gone Breckin Erichuk scores assisted by Gavin Mattey and Evan Vinterlik. In the 2nd the KNIGHTS restore their 2 goal lead prior to Hayden Wiebe scoring on the man advantage from Matthew Poole and Cam Watson. Nothing finds the back of the nets in the 3rd and this one goes into the books as a 3-2 win for the visitors. What didn’t help were the untimely and unnecessary penalties taken by the HEAT. Live and learn and expect Head Coach Brad Fox to point out the obvious…you can’t score from the penalty box. Saturday Night the 14th is alright for a road game in Kamloops at the barn on Victoria Street, Memorial Arena. The decent size crowd was mostly HEAT fans expecting a rhubarb riot between teams that have never got along. Once more a number of unnecessary infractions were taken but the anticipated silliness didn’t occur. In the 1st Russell Hassler from Trevor Kennedy and Marino Bordin got the HEAT on the scoreboard. The 2nd saw Vinterlik on the powerplay pop one in from Poole and Wiebe followed 6 minutes later by another man advantage tally from Mattey assisted by Wiebe and Watson. Shortly after the STORM got a deflection off a skate to shorten the lead. In the 3rd Kamloops scored while Chase was on the penalty kill. Tyson Lampreau then lit the lamp from Jayden Russell and Luke Recchi to have this contest
end 4-2 for the visiting Chase HEAT. Caleb Biensch the 20 year old veteran Three of the four goals were scored defenceman from Saskatchewan by a trio of local talent, “Chasers” has left post secondary education to Hassler, Mattey and Lampreau putting rejoin the HEAT. Dylan Barton the the icing on the cake! Rookie Jordan veteran goalie has returned from the Foster backstopped the team in Saskatchewan Junior A ranks, as has both weekend games with very solid 20 year old power forward Colton performances. Nikiforuk. All three are expected to Heat Beat: Gavin Mattey was named make a difference in offence, defence an Assistant Captain prior to the and goal. Stay tuned as stomachs opening game.
