Meet the Candidates for Mayor Rick Berrigan
My name is Rick Berrigan and I’m married to my lovely wife Lori, we have two sons Stephan & Mackenzie. We have lived in Chase for 21 years and I have been directly involved in this community. 10 years on Chase Fire Department with 6 of them as Fire Chief. 2 terms on Village Council and currently your Mayor for the past 4 years. I have received commendations for organization and leadership in the 2003 firestorm. I have met many talented individuals, and served on many boards and committees including the TNRD for almost 4 years. I was also voted in as the Vice Chair of the Thompson Regional Hospital Board, Chase Museum, Dr. Recruitment, and several others. I’m committed to continuing to learn and grow and I would be honored to have the opportunity to represent our area in this way. I have a passion for learning from the experiences of others and I know I can contribute to the conversations that matter. I strongly support local business and wish to continue economic development and sustainability with keeping and respecting the interests of the citizens of Chase first and foremost.
Rod Crowe
Rod Crowe was born in Vancouver and moved to Chase in 2009. He has 2 adult daughters and 4 grand children. Most of his working career was spent in the construction industry, primarily in a supervisory role and for a while as a business owner. Rod also taught as a substitute teacher at BCIT in the welding department before joining the Washington Marine Group in ship building and repair at Vancouver Drydock. Rod served on Village of Chase Council, from 2011 - 2014 and achieved certification in governance from the (LGLA) Local Government Leadership Academy. He has volunteered as a Crisis Intervention Telephone Counsellor, served on Chase Emergency Support Services, Chase Museum Board of Directors and as Vice President of the Adams River Salmon Society. In his spare time Rod enjoys getting out fishing with friends as well as heading off in his Zodiac to do some wildlife photography or having dinner and a visit with family. Most mornings at 10 am Rod can be found having coffee at Craig’s Bakery, so stop by and share some of your thoughts with him on ways to make Chase an even better place to live.
Harry Danyluk
I am 71 years old and have lived in Chase for 29 years, and am a 29 year veteran of the RCMP, retired with rank of Staff Sergeant. I have been owner/ operator of Harry’s Lawn and Garden for 23 years. Former Commander of Chase RCMP detachment. Community involvement included: coaching basketball at Chase Senior High School, Chase Lions member and a past President. Presently vicepresident of the Chase Legion. Played and refereed hockey. I was elected as Chase Council in April 1999, and was elected as Mayor in 2002 and 2005, and by acclamation in 2008. Served as a director on the TNRD for 9 years as well as the Thompson-Nicola Regional Hospital Board, the last 4 years as the Board Chair. My priorities are to have a Council that works together for the benefit of this community. Fiscal responsibility and to build up our reserves. We have to look at the condition of our roads. We have not had any road surfacing in 7 years. I am running as I feel that I can give 4 more good years of service to our community.

David Lepsoe
I have lived in the village of Chase for over 50 years. I love my community and I’ve always helped to make a positive difference in Chase. It was a great honor to be voted Citizen of the Year in 2007 and to learn that my community appreciates my efforts. After 10 years on Council, I am running for Mayor in the upcoming elections. I see this as the best chance of success for Chase. Local government should create policies that support opportunities for progress and growth. I value hard work and commitment. With my unprecedented knowledge of this village I can bring everyone together to create mutually beneficial successful partnerships. I share the same tax concerns as all residents of Chase and will always seek fairness. In an attempt to protect my fellow taxpayers, I stood alone (1 against 4) to vote against the largest tax increase in the history of this Village. FOR THE SEASON
This past weekend the Silver Bullet carried the HEAT to the picturesque East Kootenays. On the schedule were a Friday Night encounter against the 2017-18 KIJHL Champion Kimberley “Ka Boom” crew, followed by a Saturday Night special versus the Golden “Red Flare” flyers. Friday in Kimberley the DYNAMITERS took an early lead, before the HEAT fired right back. Brayden Haskell from Marino Borden. The Kootenay kids than found the twine for a pair for a 3-1, 1st period lead. In the 2nd they added another for a 4-1 lead. In the 3rd a further pair provided a commanding 6-1 gap prior to Haden Nordick from Evan Hughes and Cam Watson finding the back of the net. The locals left the building suffering a 6-2 Loss. After a restful night in Cranbrook, they headed north to face the ROCKETS in Golden at the “Plywood Palace”. As with the previous night the hosts took a one goal lead, however, Chase popped a pair, new kid on the block Wyatt Kelly from Hughes and Ty Collens tied the match. That was followed by Brett Alexander scoring from Tyson Lampreau and Brandon Gremaud, end of the 1st 2-1 HEAT. In the 2nd Golden tied the contest, then Kelly with his 2nd unassisted restored the lead, but the hosts tied it again. In the 3rd the ROCKETS deposited two counters to take the lead. Chase made it respectful when Garrick Ward from Cody Allen and Hughes made it 5-4. That’s how this one came to

pass, a 5-4 loss. This coming weekend is “Family Weekend” with a pair of games either side of the 9th Annual HEAT golf tourney. Tourney registrations are flowing in and Saturday the 29th should be chock full of fun at Sunshore. Friday night the Spokane BRAVES are the competition at 7:00 pm, Sunday at 2:00 pm the EAGLES from Sicamous soar into town. Hockey Talk: Kelly acquired in a trade with Summerland appears to be the real deal with a pair of goals in his second game with the HEAT. The team now has 10 veterans with the addition of Allen, Kelly and Brendan Laing, alongside 13 rookies. The crew spent two nights at Pillar Lake camping as a team bonding exercise. It’s early, and this very young overall bunch will turn the corner as they gel, find chemistry with each other and adapt to the next level of hockey. On a very sad note, the HEAT family lost a good friend and fan this past week with the passing of Norm Stelter. Norm always took great pride in “our boys”, and fought the good fight in order to catch “our team’s” start to the season. Norm became an integral part of the team, including through his scouting efforts two of the rookies on the roster this year. We are saddened with his passing, and extend our condolences to his wife Jean, daughter Andrea and son Kel (Tara) and five grandchildren. The local arena, golf course, rivers and lakes won’t be the same without Norm. Wear your favourite jersey Friday Night in honour of Norm.
Thanks for a great season!
Feel free to call or text with questions or we will see you next season! -Paul

How can we as parents/ caregivers support kids growing up in addiction and how they can maintain their own health? Please join Lorelie Rozzano, Internationally recognized author and advocate and Dr. Christina A. Basedow and Jim Edwards for a day of knowledge sharing around the area of addiction as it affects a lot of people in every community both young and old, and how can we as community offer support in this area to our children/youth? It’s their mission to create healthy families community and everyone impacted by substance disorder. Valued at $2500 Also available for a prize is Bounce Back is a 3 day children’s program. Bounce Back is designed for children aged 7-12 years and valued at $500 plus accommodation.

Obituary HENRI, Herbert Leonard June 15, 1927 Duncan, BC – September 23, 2018 Kelowna, BC
Herb passed away peacefully on September 23, 2018, after a battle with ALS, which he fought all the way. Survived by his loving family, wife Margie, married 68 years, sons Don (Sally) and Doug (Randi), grandson Trevor (Rachael), great grandchildren Andrew and Marian, step granddaughter Paula (Roger), great grandson Tyler (Christina), great- great grandchild Lincoln, grandsons Mathew and Justin (Amanda), great grandchildren Jody and Cole and honorary grandson Christopher Baker. In his early life, Dad took up the saxophone and clarinet and persuaded some friends to form a group who played the Fraser Valley, in New Westminster and Harrison Hot Springs. In his early 20’s, Dad went to work for Whonnock Lumber, starting on the green chain. He worked his way up to vice president of Whonnock Industries, manager of Holding Lumber at Adams Lake Shuswap, eventually moving up country to settle in Chase, BC and later to the Kelowna area. The company was purchased by International Forest Products of which he became a director and was involved in the acquisition of 5 more lumber mills and seven logging operations. In the 1970’s, he purchased a 172 Cessna. Mom and Dad had a great time exploring any place you could land a plane. Later when he got his float plane endorsement, he was able to get to the logging camps and fish the little mountain lakes. In the 1980’s, he took up skiing and tackled the interior mountains with his buddies. After 40 years with the company, Dad retired, and it was time to play. He and Mom travelled the world, visiting over 50 countries and, as he was an avid golfer, playing at St. Andrews in Scotland was a highlight. Dad enjoyed being with family and friends; he always made sure you were being looked after and would help you with anything that was needed. He will be dearly missed. Special thanks to Dr. Parsons and the staff of Mission Creek Landing who looked after Dad with consideration and loving care. Should family and friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Society of BC, www.alsbc. ca. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com.
