RCMP Report

• On May 20th at 6:20 pm, Chase RCMP received a report of a fire in the 900 block of Chase-Falkland Road. Upon attendance, it was found that the fire had occurred on an empty property amongst a pile of logs and was already put out. Witnesses stated that the fire had first been spotted at about 8 am, and was called in at that time. A white pickup truck was seen leaving the property at about 6:15 am. While the cause has not been determined, arson has not been ruled out. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Chase RCMP at 250-679-3221. • On May 20th at 10:20 pm, while patrolling in Seymour Arm, Chase RCMP conducted a traffic stop of an allterrain vehicle that was being operated on a public roadway. The driver, a twentythree year old man from Salmon Arm, exhibited signs of impairment by alcohol, and further investigation resulted in a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition. The side-by-side all-terrain vehicle was impounded, and the driver issued a

Submitted by RCMP Chase Detachment

violation ticket for no driver’s license. • On May 20th, at 7:00 pm, Chase RCMP conducted a traffic Checkstop on Squilax-Anglemont Road near Scotch Creek. Approximately fifty vehicles were checked, and no major infractions were noted. At about 10:00 pm, another Checkstop was conducted in Anglemont, and about ten vehicles were checked. No major infractions were found at this stop, however, one driver had a quantity of marijuana seized. Due to the small quantity of the seizure, no charges were laid. • On May 21st, at 3:00 pm, Chase RCMP responded to a complaint of shots fired and an explosion in the 7500 block of Loakin-Bear Creek Road near Chase. Upon attendance, police found a group of people camping in the woods. They had been target shooting and the explosion was produced by hitting a block of Tannerite, a target-practise explosive. No damage had occurred, and the group was done shooting for the day. The shooters produced valid Possession and

Acquisition Licenses. • On May 22nd, at about 6:20 pm, Chase RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway One at Desfosses Road. The single male driver, aged 77 years, stated that he was driving west on Hwy 1 in his Cadillac and began having problems with the transmission, at which point he looked down at the gearshift, causing him to hit a highway divider. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, however, earlier in the day police had received multiple complaints about erratic driving involving this vehicle, and the driver had been issued a warning. • Victoria Day Weekend Chase RCMP report an uneventful long weekend. Cool rainy weather dampened outdoor activities, and the campgrounds reported no problems. Due to issues last year, Chase Detachment maintained a presence in Seymour Arm throughout the weekend, and aside from one Immediate Roadside Prohibition for impaired driving, there were no issues.

Farm & Craft Market

Sundays 10 - 2 in Scotch Creek (Home Hardware Parking Lot)

• Bedding Plants • Produce • Baking • Preserves • Spice Rubs • Jewelry • Craft & More!

You can’t get more local than your Farmers’ Market!

The Chase Heat will be arriving in town in August to start their 2016-2017 hockey season. Once the team has been selected the out of town players will need a place to live for the hockey season (September 2016-March 2017). The boys come from all areas of British Columbia and beyond and vary from 16 to 20 years in age. Some boys are still in school (these players attend Chase Secondary during their stay in Chase) and some have already graduated. What they all have in common is their love for the sport and their desire to provide Chase with many hours of exciting hockey.

Being a billet family is a rewarding experience and adds a whole new dimension to the otherwise dreary Chase winter. It is important that you are able to welcome these boy/boys into your home and provide him/them with healthy meals and a safe environment. This ’home away from home’ is important to enable the boys to be successful on the ice and in everyday life. Providing a smoke free living area is essential. If this opportunity sounds intriguing and you would like more information please contact Janice Winfield 250-6794471 or Lana Adamson 250-574-3681

Business of the Week:

Jade Mountain FasGas & Motel Getting to know our businesses leaders and local organizations

A Service of the Chase & District Chamber of Commerce, Written by Kelsey Snelgrove

You can get a lot more than Gas at Jade Mountain these days, 7 day a week 7:30 am to 6:30 pm. Peter and Hannah Son, who bought the business in 2012, have worked hard to make the facility into a “one stop shop for all your needs”. The Jade Mountain Motel has seven unique rooms in a big, log building with a beautiful view of shimmering Little Shuswap Lake. The rooms, are quiet, clean and comfortable, with TV, Internet and microwaves. The Fasgas gas station is a full service station with gas and diesel. They also sell boat and snowmobile gas, and auto propane with a BBQ tank fill-up station. A small restaurant was added when they took over the business. They serve breakfast, lunch and various baked goods. This family business takes pride in providing healthy and delicious options using quality ingredients “Our bacon and eggs, burgers and potato salad are quickly becoming a hit,” said Peter. All most all their food is made fresh

daily in their kitchen. “One of our best kept secrets are our blueberry muffins and cheese burgers”, said Peter. The Sons, who moved to Canada from Korea in 1995, follow the philosophy that their customers are the number 1 priority, and they strive to greet all customers with a big smile! The couple had settled in Burnaby for 18 years and raised two children while running an English as Second Language School. They are happy to have relocated to this beautiful area on the TransCanada Highway. “The Trans-Canada Highway is extremely beautiful for summer and winter vacationers, as well as business and trucking travel” said Peter. The Sons have donated to non profit organizations with silent auction items. And, like everyone featured in this column, they are proud members of the Chase Chamber of Commerce.

Investigation into the possibility of having a regular Lions Bingo night Wednesdays looked very promising; and - the license was approved (November 19, 1984), and the first Bingo (as presently structured) was scheduled for November 28, 1984. The net for the first night was $328.00. A burnt out family became one of the first recipients from this project (January ‘85). The Chase Lions officially adopted the Bingo as a project and has continued to this day and has become the Club’s largest money making project as well as being a leading community activity. The last several years, a walk-in Bingo and breakopen tickets provided further attractions. The Club adopted appreciation and service award guidelines (November 18, 1985) to provide an element of standardization of recognition. In 1985-86, the Lions supported and assisted the RCMP “finger-printing” program for approximately 200 young children. This was an ID program where weight, color of hair and eyes plus distinguishing marks were also recorded. These records were to be kept by the child’s parents or guardians. Assistance to a needy family with a child having severe medical problems was extended for approximately five months. Promoted adequate financing from alternate sources to assist on a continual basis. A local student was sponsored for the Bonding of the Senses Educational Program $690. Valley Therapeutic Equestrian Association and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers received $100 each. Lions Quest Drug Awareness program was supported by attending informational meeting in Vernon, sponsoring a Lion member and four teachers at Haldane to be qualified to teach Skills for Adolescence programs (September ‘89). The programme started at Haldane Elementary School and is continuing depending upon teacher assignments. Donated $3,000 to Camp Winfield dining room improvements (September ‘89).
