Positively Seen in Chase This Week Submitted by Chase and District Chamber of Commerce

It was great to see so many people getting out to vote either at the advance polls or on Election Day itself. We had a very long campaign period in which to learn more about the local candidates, the party leaders, and the party platforms. Thank you to everyone who took the time and made the effort to study the issues and to cast a ballot on what you felt would be best for the country, the region and for you as individual citizens. We have all done our part to help to keep our democracy strong. Thanks too to all those citizens who

demonstrate their ongoing support and appreciation of Chase Citizens on Patrol as they conduct Speed Watches, Cell Watches and Seat Belt checks. The support of local residents is important to these valued volunteers, and helps to ensure that they will have enough members to be able to provide these valuable services in the future. Let’s all keep thinking positively and focus on the good in each other. That is how we can continue to make Chase an even better place to live, work and play. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

BOOK REVIEW by Annelise Grube-Cavers The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga

Some books will make you smile and acknowledge the little bits of wisdom shared by the author. Other books let you close the last page having learned something entirely new, having seen the world from a new perspective. And there are a few books that inspire compliments and reflection every time you set it down. The White Tiger had me commenting to anyone around on how good it was. A worthy winner of the Man Booker Prize, this book shows the world of lesser classes in India. Their plight and the way they can improve their circumstance in a corrupt and

unforgiving world. “Let animals live like animals. Let humans live like humans,” is the basic philosophy of narrator, Munna. He’s a member of the servant class, destined to remain under the control of wealthier and more educated individuals, or is he? Strongly recommended, you’ll have trouble putting this book down. From jokes to the harsh realities of the divided world we live in, the White Tiger can show us all some decency and how he works towards his own philosophy.

Residential school musical playing in Kamloops this weekend Press Release

Western Canada Theatre in partnership with Urban Ink and Raven Theatre, proudly presents a workshop production of the new musical Children of God by Corey Payette, on October 24, 26 and 28 at 7:30 at the Pavilion Theatre in Kamloops. A musical about an Oji-Cree family whose children were sent to residential school. It examines how our past directly relates to our future and celebrates Indigenous peoples’ never-ending cultural spirit, which blends the traditional

and contemporary. From this new perspective, we can tell the stories of wounds that will not heal in the hope that by acknowledging these stories, we can move towards accepting the past. Playwright Corey Payette says, “It is essential to honour residential school survivors by sharing their history in order to make sure this never happens again.” October 24, 26, and 28th at 7:30 pm at the Pavilion Theatre (1025 Lorne St. Kamloops) Tickets $15. Elders and youth $12.

Tale of soaring fish eaters and howling dogs In a nutshell, the past pair of games for the Chase HEAT could be summed up as a Jekyll and Hyde weekend. From a flat loss fishing for points down the lake, to a virtuoso performance in the local concert hall the mood of fans went from dismay to ecstasy. The boys hopped on the bus on Friday the 16th and trundled down #1 to Shea Weber Drive the site where the Sicamous EAGLES play shinny. Now life is a game of hard knocks and in hockey its best to expect the unexpected, and on this date and time perhaps that explains the result. The HEAT were able to shift into a higher gear once or twice during the contest, the opening goal in the 2nd on the powerplay off the stick of Kolten Moore assisted by Travis Beaubien and Trevor Okino. In the 3rd the soaring EAGLES popped a pair including 1 on the powerplay to take a 2-1 much needed victory. Nic Bruyere
