Thank you Chase from a HEAT mom by Kari Mostat

ou would think that getting called up by a Junior A hockey team would have been the easiest decision to make. It was not! Being a part of a community like Chase, made Logan Mostat’s decision to move to Jr. A one of the most difficult decisions he has had to make. With playoffs looming, Logan knows the Heat will go far. He wanted to stay and help where he could, but the dream of Jr. A is a strong one! The Chase Heat organization welcomed Logan into their family in September of 2014. He arrived with a heavy heart, after being released by a Jr A team. With the guidance of coach Fox and a long bumpy road, Logan bounced back and concentrated on hockey in Chase. He met new teammates, reacquainted with old ones, and was enveloped in support by the people of Chase. They became family!

e!

The 2015/16 season brought a few big trades to the Heat organization. It was both sad and exciting to be part of. These new players were such a great group of young men, they formed new friendships immediately. This new bond of brotherhood showed on and off the ice. The call came, it all happened in a blink of an eye! Logan had a day and a half to make the decision to leave the team and community that he had become so attached to. It was not as easy as he thought it would be to leave. The evidence of the love for hockey in Chase is shown by all the hardworking and dedicated volunteers, the Heat organization, the players, billet families, Heat fans, team sponsors and community members of Chase. It made Logan’s decision extremely difficult. Cont’d on pg 4

Organization of the Week:

Villages Lanes Fun Centre

Getting to know our businesses leaders and local organizations A Service of the Chase & District Chamber of Commerce

The Buresh family opened Village Lanes in 2013 following their move from Salmon Arm where Gord had previously owned and operated J Lanes before selling in 2002. With his 45 years of experience in the bowling business, Gord and family are providing Chase residents and visitors with a high quality and fun bowling experience. Manager Calyn Buresh encourages everyone from “2 – 102” to come in and try bowling. They offer free instruction so if you’ve never bowled before, they will happily get you started on the right foot. They also provide ramps and bowling sticks for disabled bowlers. Currently, Village Lanes has over 300 League bowlers with 5 Adult Leagues, 4 Seniors’ Leagues and 1 Youth League. With a philosophy centered

on having a good time, Village Lanes is a great place for casual bowlers and for those looking for a cheerful spot to play pool or try out some arcade games. While enjoying your choice of recreational activity, you can enjoy good food and a beverage from their full bar and kitchen. Or maybe you’d like to just pop in for coffee in a fun place surrounded by happy people. Village Lanes are strong supporters of the community. They currently have 6 local employees and give regularly to local charities. As well, Village Lanes has over 20 volunteer coaches, league representatives and fundraisers who actively contribute to the great bowling experience had by all. If you’ve not yet visited the staff at Village Lanes and had a look around this great facility, now is the time to do it. You’ll be glad you did.

Pin Chatter: Welcome Baby by Calyn Buresh, Village Lanes

Hi Everyone! I hope that you all had a great week! I’m very happy to say that this week was the best of my life. On Friday, January 22nd at 5:57pm, Kelly and I welcomed our beautiful baby girl into the world. Emma Jo Collins weighed in at a perfect 7 pounds 5 ounces. It has been a very real case of Deja Vu these past few days. 25 years ago to the month, my parents, Gord and Linda, welcomed me into the world and introduced me to the life of a bowling alley baby. Emma is four days old today, and has already been passed

from bowler to bowler at Village Lanes, just as I was 25 years ago at ‘J’ Lanes in Salmon Arm. Kelly and I want to thank all of our friends, family, and our amazing bowlers for all of the love and support they gave us over the past nine months (not to mention the ridiculous amount of baby gifts). We are so excited to get to share our little bundle with you all, and have you watch her grow with us. Mom, dad, and baby are all doing great. Welcome to the world, my beautiful Emma Jo.

Letter from a Hockey Mom

Even going in to the home game against Summerland, he still wasn’t sure what his decision was going to be. The fans all knew though. They came by congratulating us on Logan being “called up”. They were all happy for him, but sad to see him go. I was overwhelmed with the love and support people were showing for Logan. It was a tearful goodbye in the locker room. Leaving the community of Chase and Logan’s second family, was harder

than I ever imagined! Chase is definitely a family community and as a hockey mom, I wanted to say thank you to everyone in Chase for welcoming and including all our sons in your lives and community, for giving them a chance to play and strive for their dreams. Thank you, Kari Mostat

A Place on Earth by Wendell Berry

This book describes an agricultural community and all of the hurdles and twists that the changing seasons offer. Set against the troubling backdrop of the second world war, the distant images of war and pain contrast with the serenity, constanse and occasional turmoil of changing seasons. The village’s future keeps moving forwards with the snow melting and new life making its way into barns and onto pastures. Not everything is perfect, but the lasting impression of the novel is one of continuity and the importance of care and commitment. Labeled as a writer, cultural critic and farmer, Berry’s writing demonstrates a heartfelt connection to the land and

Everything for Healthy Living

the sustenance it provides. Some of the characters’ thoughts and reflections on war are very critical, but not in an analytical detached way. These are country folk experiencing the emotional disasters that war can bring and wondering at the need for it. Quietly attuned to nature, the foreword to this book says a lot about the authors’ own values: Berry writes that he believes even through careful revision before printing a novel, trees can be saved from being turned into paper. He did a good job revising, leaving only words with lots of meaning and a rhythm that the reader will find easy to connect with and learn from.

CHASE HEAT GAMES

Saturday, Januar y 30th at 7 pm VS. princeton posse

Chase LIONS 400 Club

A HEAD OF STEAM, HOWLING DOGS AND STARVED BEARS by Scott Koch

Three games closer to the end of the regular season, results in a tale of three cities. Story line one finds the HEAT in the Mountain Mecca of Revelstoke on Tuesday the 19th. The GRIZZLIES as expected are ornery and prepared to feast on their rivals. But alas, something goes awry and a HEAT wave takes the nasty out of the cubs. Nic Bruyere in the twine stops 26 of 26 to earn his second shutout of the season in a 4-0 road victory, with all goals coming on the KIJHL League leading power play. The damage in the 1st starts with Michael Fidanza from Trevor Okino and Braden Hughes. Then, Tommy Brown gets goal number two from Okino and Fidanza. In the 2nd period leading scorer Kolten Moore pops a pair, the HEAT third goal from Josh Bourne and Zach Fournier and the fourth tally from Hughes and Okino. Two great points earned ahead of a challenging couple of contests in wine country. Tale two finds the Chase squad on Saturday the 23rd, in the Canadian desert versus the Osoyoos Coyotes. Arguably one of the top three teams in the league, the talented Yotes get off to a three goal lead in the 1st prior to a pane of broken glass causing a lengthy delay. After the stoppage the game changes, although the desert dogs do dump in a fourth tally, the game playing out on a more even basis. In the 2nd ,the HEAT get one from Austin Willier assisted by Travis Beaubien and Spencer Farstad. That’s it for scoring as the Coyotes take a 4-1 victory after firing 54 shots at Bruyere who denies 50 of them.

Then, on Sunday afternoon the 24th the third battle saga occurs in Steamy Summerland. The HEAT allow the STEAM to pop in a pair in the 1st , before they wake up and go to work. Tommy Brown starts the comeback aided by a great pass from Bourne and Okino. The Choo Choo crew is not happy and Pat Brady is called on to win his first KIJHL tilt.
