Chase Heat Awards
In a surprise announcement, “Foxy” explained the special reasons why the “team first” roster received the “Most Dedicated” award. Those in attendance gave the team a rousing standing ovation in agreement. A special presentation was made to the four 20 year olds on the team who have completed their Junior Hockey Eligibility. They were the leadership group all season and wore the “letters” as a result. Captain Trevor Okino and Assistants Alexander Durbeniuk, Braden Hughes and Tommy Brown were presented with framed mementos, personalized travel bags and HEAT golf
shirts. In a 2nd surprise of the evening the 4 veterans presented Brad Fox with a gift in appreciation of all that he has done for them in their development on and off the ice. The presentations were concluded with the “Volunteer of the Year” award going to Billet Coordinator Janice Winfield. She works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the players have suitable billet homes provided in the Community. Without billets the KIJHL Franchise would be nonexistent. The HEAT Hockey Organization is very proud of each and every one of the players who stood united and made
Wonderful World of Credit By Moosebreath P. Rottensocks The Canadian consumer cost of living has been increasing annually at an approximate 1.5% rate (ref: based on Stats Canada) Over the past few years, the Central Bank of Canada has been keeping inflation rates low and stable, by holding and lowering rates (currently at ½ per cent – ref: Stats Canada). The Central Bank is responsible for Canada’s monetary policy, bank rates, financial systems and funds management: (info ref: bank of canada.ca). The Canadian Banking Institutions (RBC, TD, CIBC, BOM, and Scotia) have followed suit by generously lowering interest rates for consumer housing and personal loans. These same banking institutions recently “boasted” financial “profits” in the “billions” of dollars (Canadian Banking profits top 31.7 billion dollars – 2105 – Stats Canada). The questions arise: When will our “Profitable Institutions” finally lower their interest rates on consumer “Credit Cards”? The credit card interest rates today are definitely ‘Out of Line’ in compliance with the Bank of Canada’s lower lending rates. Currently [some of] our banks also include an annual fee for their consumers to conveniently have the privilege of using a banking credit card. (These charges are considered by consumers to be a ‘Slap in the Face’). Recent notifications to consumers: [some] Canadian Banks are currently increasing
their consumer daily banking transaction fees. (ref: Insecure bank mailing notifications). Are these Canadian Institutions not making enough financial profits today, to lower credit card interest rates and lower consumer transaction fees? A number of “Controversial Credit Card Companies” are presently offering and have ‘Lowering’ credit card interest rates to consumers, with NO annual credit card fees. Why have our ‘profitable banking institutions’ Not followed this competitive competition? We (as banking customers) now have choices to consider: (a) We can happily accept our current banking credit card rates, fees and recent increased daily transactions fees – or – (b) We can state our disproval and anxiety to our local banking manager – or (c) We can write and/or call our apprehensions to our local M.L.A. Hopefully and collectively, we can change our Canadian Banking vulnerability of interest rate increases before the system becomes ‘uncontrollable’ Kindly submit your observations of (a), (b), (c) above to your local Sunflower regarding your personal views of this article As always and - ‘Yours Truly’ Moosebreath P. Rottensocks Moosebreath P. Rottensocks is the pen name of a writer in Chase keen to tackle local matters, financial issues, and share his opinion on anything Canadian.

Pin Chatter: News from the Bowling Alley by Calyn Buresh
We are gearing up for one of our busiest weekends of the year; our annual February Bowl-A-Spiel! Village Lanes will be playing host this weekend to roughly 30 teams, both local and out of towners who are looking to claim the prestigious Bowl-A-Spiel trophy! It’s a fun weekend, filled with round the clock bowling, a drink or two, and a Chinese dinner for those participating! In conjunction with the tournament, the Village Lanes Bowling Club also puts on a silent auction fundraiser to help support our youth and senior programs! The silent auction opens at 4:00pm on Friday evening, and closes on Saturday evening at 6:00pm! The auction is NOT limited to bowlers only, so if you’re looking for something to do this weekend, come down to the lanes to watch some bowling, and bid on some auction items for a great
cause! Congratulations being sent out to our two Chase teams who participated in Port Coquitlam for the chance to win a trip to Hawaii! Unfortunately, if our local competitors are wanting to go on a sunny trip, they will have to pay for it themselves, as they did not win this past weekend. Red Manson and Terry Vandevosse placed 8th, while Terry Berreth, and partner Ray Jackson placed 11th. Now for some weekly league high scores! Patrick Wright had a massive day on the lanes last Thursday, bowling a 326 single and a 782 triple! Way to go Patrick! Mayor Rick Berrigan rolled a 304 single, his first one ever! Congrats Rick! The men outplayed the ladies this week, while Larry Carlson rolled a 301 single. Well done guys! We will get you next week! Until then, have a great week!
