RCMP Media Release Submitted by RCMP Chase Detachment
On March 18th, at 8:00 pm, Chase RCMP conducted a traffic Checkstop on SquilaxAnglemont Road near the Little River overpass. Approximately fifteen drivers were checked, and three impaired investigations were begun. Using the approved screening device, all drivers were then cleared and allowed to proceed on their way.
On March 23rd at 8:30 pm, Chase RCMP attended a complaint of two intoxicated males on Shuswap Avenue exposing themselves to passers-by. Two males were located, however, there was not enough evidence to proceed with a charge. The males were warned about their alleged behaviour and moved along.
On March 19th, at 1:30 am, police were called for a noise complaint coming from a unit in a four-plex in the 200 block of Brooke Drive. Police attended the location and found a party with loud music. The occupant of the suite was spoken to and the music was turned down. No charges resulted.
On March 26th at 7:40 am, Chase RCMP attended a single motor vehicle collision on Squilax-Anglemont Road, approximately two kilometres west of Scotch Creek. A black Hyundai was located off-road to the right of the southbound lane. Damage to the vehicle was substantial, and it was confirmed that the registered owner had been the driver. No injuries were reported. Road conditions may have been slippery due to frost at that hour, and alcohol was not a contributing factor. No charges were laid.
On March 19th, at 3:30 am , Chase RCMP were notified that a white 2001 Dodge commercial truck was stolen from a residence on Pine Street. The vehicle was seen on VLA Road heading toward Kamloops, and it was closely followed by a red Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Surrounding detachments were immediately notified of the theft while Chase RCMP made patrols. The commercial truck was located on March 22nd on a dirt road off Old Highway. Forensic Identification Services examined the truck, and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information regarding this theft of vehicle is asked to call Chase Detachment at 250-6793221 or Crimestoppers. On March 22nd at 3:40 am, Chase RCMP were called to attend a fire in the parking lot behind Safety Mart at 305 Brooke Drive. Chase Fire Department was on-scene and had put out the fire. The fire was contained to several pallets of compressed cardboard. No witnesses have been identified at this time, however, police are requesting that anyone with knowledge of this crime call Chase Detachment at 250-679-3221 or Crimestoppers. On March 29th, Chase RCMP were called regarding a break-and-enter to a basement suite in the 200 block of Brooke Drive. The occupant of the suite had been away for a few weeks, and came home to find that someone had entered an unlocked rear window. Jewelry was confirmed to have been taken. Anyone who has knowledge of this break-and-enter is asked to call Chase RCMP at 250-679-3221 or Crimestoppers.
On March 28th, after a lengthy investigation, Chase RCMP executed a search warrant on a residence in the 500 block of First Avenue. Seized from the residence were illegal loaded firearms, firearms parts, and improperly stored ammunition. As a result of the investigation, Joshua Timothy Reese, age 33, has been indicted on three firearms charges: Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm contrary to Section 95(1), Possession of a firearm without a licence contrary to Section 92(1), and Possession of firearms while prohibited, contrary to Section 117.01 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Further court appearances are scheduled. On March 29th at 4:25 am, Chase RCMP were notified by a resident on Willow St who heard a noise outside. The complainant turned on an exterior light and saw a male dressed in a dark hoody with his hand on the door handle of the complainant’s pickup truck. The male then jumped into a dark coloured newer model pick-up truck and fled the area. No license plate was obtained. Police conducted patrols of the area, but did not find the suspect vehicle. The complainant stated that the passenger door of her pick-up had been left unlocked, and an iPod was taken. Anyone with information regarding this theft is asked to call Chase Detachment at 250-679-3221 or Crimestoppers.

Elder ‘Wolverine’, 84 passes away Early Tuesday evening, Secwepemc Elder William Jones ‘Wolverine’ Ignace, who gained international recognition after the 1995 Gustafsen Lake standoff, died in his Adams Lake Indian Band home. The Gustafsen (Ts’Peten) Lake Standoff was a month long confrontation between the RCMP and ‘Ts’Peten Defenders’ on a piece of ranch land near 100-Mile House. The confrontation began when a group of about 25 people occupied land they believed to be sacred and unceded, to perform Sundance ceremonies on. The situation escalated and throughout the month, the RCMP brought in 400 armed officers, helicopters, armoured

personnel carriers, blew up a supply pick-up truck with buried explosives, and fired 77,000 rounds of ammunition. Both sides exchanged gunfire and one person was injured but no one was killed in the confrontation. Wolverine, who was a key figure in the standoff, spent five years in jail for his role. Over the years, he has requested a national public inquiry into the Ts’Peten/ Gustafsen Lake Standoff from the Federal Government. In recent years, he tended a massive garden in a food sovereignty project called “Nourish the Nation”. Wolverine gave away most of his garden’s harvest to elders in autonomous communities, single-parent families and First Nations camps. “He leaves with us a great legacy of indigenous resistance, struggle and victory. He is widely respected and loved, not only by his family, community and Secwepemc Nation, but throughout the world as well,” stated the Ts’Peten Defence Committee.
