Town Hall Meeting to Address Crime

T

Submitted by Joni Heinrich, Village of Chase

here is a Town Hall Meeting being held April 22, 2016 to discuss crime reduction strategies. Village of Chase Mayor and Council, in partnership with the local RCMP detachment and RCMP crime experts will be on hand Friday, April 22, 2016 starting at 7 p.m. in the upstairs room of the Chase and District Curling Rink to talk about recent criminal activity in Chase and how the community can work with the RCMP to make our community less attractive to criminals. Various individual property owners and other residents have been experiencing theft from their vehicles, sheds and outer areas of their homes over the past couple of months. Some of the crimes have been ‘crimes of opportunity’, that is, unlocked vehicles, storage sheds and the like have been targeted. Items

such as garden equipment and even loose change have been reported stolen. Other thefts have been more serious, and have included break-in type activity. Mayor and Council of the Village do take these concerns seriously, as do the local RCMP. The meeting being held is intended to help the community members understand why these crimes are occurring, and what we can do as individual residents and neighbours to make our community more difficult for thieves to obtain money and items they can sell for money. Together, with more information and knowledge, we can all work together to keep thieves out of our community. Please join us Friday, April 22, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Chase and District Curling Rink (upstairs) for an informative and educational meeting.
