Kelsey Snelgrove
These last few weeks have been such a blur! When my nomination for the Chase Skate Park was chosen as one of the Final Four in the Kraft Heinz Project Play contest, everything started happening all at once; lively committee meetings, press release blasts, hundreds of social media posts, and loads of support from the community! On behalf of the Chase & District Skate Park Society I would like to thank everyone who has been part of our success by getting the word out, donating money, uploading pictures with our hashtags, the kind words, and everything else. The final push to win the $250,000 is a Canada wide vote online. We need everyone to vote July 25th starting at 9 am PST. You can vote as many times as you want until July 26th at 9 pm! We have a really good shot at winning this if we all pull
together. Whether you have a child or like skateboarding or bmxing, please take some time to vote and help us bring a quarter of a million dollars into the community! What an opportunity we have! See page 5 for more information on voting and the skate park events. Before this contest came up, I had planned to take a week off to visit family in Alberta. I am going to follow through with that plan and take the opportunity to get friends and family across Western Canada to vote for us too. Cavelle Layes will be filling in for me, putting the Chase Sunflower together next week. I will be going through Calgary to visit in-laws and then heading to my hometown in Vermilion to enjoy the 110th Annual Vermilion Fair. See you in August!

Firefighters on Canada Day From tire flipping to hose work, Chase firefighters were impressed with the skills shown by local kids on Canada Day. Chase Fire Rescue members worked together to host a Kids Firefighter Challenge event during the Canada Day festivities at Memorial Park on July 1st. Despite it being the first time for the event to be held, members were greeted with a great turnout and a lineup of kids from beginning to end. Kids who took part in the event were put to the test with an obstacle course that reflected the Scott Firefighter Challenge that is held nationwide for adult firefighters. Those who were brave enough to step up to the challenge had to gear up before flipping a tire, transferring some tennis balls, doing a firefighter crawl through a tunnel, diving through a confined space tire, running a hose pack up some ‘stairs’, and doing a hose pull before rescuing a mini dummy, and running a charged hose to a target area and hitting a bottle off a pylon.

Thank You A special thank you in memory of
Rex Robert Palamar
A special thank you everyone for your caring hearts for my family, friends & me in support with all your love, prayers & blessings when you heard that Rex died. The Holy Spirit is our comfort at this trying time. Thanks for the many cards, flowers & food provided for us just as we needed them. My family is so ever grateful for everything. Rex’s autopsy showed that he was born with a rare inherited condition called: • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This type involves abnormal thickening of your heart muscle, particularly affecting the muscle of your heart's main pumping chamber (left ventricle). The thickened heart muscle can make it harder for the heart to pump blood. I did not know his condition. It was found through this autopsy.
