Health Services Foundation at Work

Continued from page 1... Program - through a Community Kitchen facility, with working services groups, churches and individuals. This will require Volunteers and some need to have "Food Safe Certification".

4.) Training, educational programming, videos, webinars, taped workshops, Health Related programming, Healthy Living Programs, etc. related to Seniors. Linking the Chase Creekside or the Chase Legion with UBC - Okanagan Healthy Living, Seniors Programming, and Interior Health Media. UBC - Okanagan / IHA programming through the Web from their Okanagan facility to the Chase Creekside Seniors or the Chase Legion, who would receive the programming / web signal and rebroadcast for our local Seniors and interested others. 5.) Continue to ask for more Community ParaMedicine - Paramedic hours locally. ParaMedic home visitations to help seniors still able to live at home. Ensuring overall health of seniors living on their own, monitoring individuals with chronic illnesses and touching base with family and individuals regarding wellness, medications, etc... A proven program helping to keep Seniors At Home. 6.) Working with I.H.A. to get a local Full Care Facility built and established in the Chase area. Ensuring that IHA + Min. of Health know and understand the burden - financially placed on the remaining family members. The cost of transportation to visit a family member in a Full Care Facility in Kamloops or Salmon Arm or Kelowna or wherever, the extra stress of having to arrange for a ride 2, 3 or more times a week. Many elders don't have a driver's license, let alone an insured vehicle. The Full Care Committee Working Group continues to gather Caregiver Stories, Family Stories and hearing about the

impact of having to see a loved one moved and relocated to a Full Care Facility in Kamloops or Salmon Arm that has a Full Care Facility that provides 24/7 Healthcare Services and continue to create a proposal package for IHA (mutual input) regarding a local Full Care Facility here in Chase.

7.) TRU Research Study regarding the Interior Health - Ageing in Place Initiative, 2 years after the I.H.A. Repositioning of Primary and Community Care in the IHA Region. Has it addressed priorities of rural older adults and their social determinants of Health? Over the next 6 to 7 months Chase seniors will be queried about their thoughts, issues, health topics, priority needs as a local Chase senior. # 1 - Transportation was identified as a top priority in a survey two years ago of Chase citizens and 5 other small rural area communities. # 2 - The need for consistency in Home Care providers; having the same Care Aide / Home Care Provider (unlike IHA program that can see 3 or 4 different care providers a week or last-minute Home Care cancellations due to lack of Home Care Aides.) The need for a local Home Care Provider Coordinator located in Chase. It is very difficult for Senior and Elders to continually adapt to different individuals and methods of doing things. # 3 - Keeping Chase Health Centre Services here. Keeping Health Services in Chase (ie. Blood Work, X-Rays, Emergency Services, Doctors, Nurses and Technicians, Adult Services Programs, Ambulance Services.) 2 years ago Chase was still looking for Doctors to move into Chase and become part of local Health Care Services; the community now has 4 Doctors locally.

Family Literacy Week 2021 proclaimed in BC

Suggested Unplug & Play activities in Chase Family Literacy Week (January 24-31, 2021) in British Columbia, is an annual campaign that recognizes the importance of family literacy. This year’s Family Literacy Week theme is “Let’s Be Active.” Active play is any physical activity that includes moderate to vigorous burst of high energy and raises a child’s heart rate. It builds physical, social, emotional, language and thinking skills. “Active play is an essential part of children’s development. And unstructured play is just as important us organized sports and games.” says Margaret Sutherland, Executive Director of Decoda Literacy Solutions, BC’s provincial literacy organization. “Children learn by watching, so join in the play! Go for a family

walk. They have such value – for exercise and for learning. You can incorporate games like 20 questions, I Spy, or Follow the Leader. Walking together builds family connections and creates great memories.” Get active for Family Literacy Week in your community! In Chase, Unplug and Play events will take place: homes throughout Chase Place: Chase B.C. (some events are at Haldane) Date: Jan 23rdJan 30th 2021 Time: Each day has a different ‘suggested’ event and theme such as cooking, game might, dance night, a scavenger hunt and more. All event details are on Chase Literacy Program's Facebook page.

T&T Liquidation Advertorial by author and journalist Carolyn Parks Mintz

The Place 124 Chase Street, Chase, BC • 250.679.1028 • tammy@tntliquidation.ca Facebook: T&T Liquidation The Management Tammy and Tom Pennington The Story Winston Churchill once said, “The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty.” And Will Rogers recommended, “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.” These words of wisdom could well be the personal philosophies of Tammy and Tom Pennington, the Owner/ Managers of a new shop in Chase. When the COVID pandemic forced the closure of their successful restaurant in the town of Barriere, they then concentrated their efforts on a retail discount clothing store they own there. Sales were strong and continue to be. So, the T&T team decided to open another outlet in a larger BC city. When that undertaking proved to be less than efficacious, they began searching for a new community in which to ply their extensive retail experience and knowhow. The Village of Chase proved to be what they were looking for—lucky Chase!

Tammy and Tom’s off-price retail store opened in mid-November of 2020. And its comprehensive selection is just what the town has needed for some time. Carrying menswear, ladieswear, clothing for babies, children and teens, as well as footwear, accessories, belts, purses, jewellery, and plus sizes, T&T Liquidation has it all, including attractive, hand-crafted personal protective masks— and will soon stock a line of the popular Mossy Oak clothing. New inventory is brought in twice a week, ensuring lots to choose from. With their vision of providing quality products at a fair price, Tammy and Tom guarantee everything on their racks and shelves is 50% off the ticket price and discounted even further, up to 75%, if amongst the store’s sale items. The well-laid-out shop welcomes visitors to browse, try on, and enjoy their shopping experience, enhanced by the smiling faces of the owners and their part-time assistant, Janet. Do drop by! This advertorial is brought to you by the Village of Chase, the Chase Sunflower, and the Chamber of Commerce. To have your business featured, please contact the Chase Sunflower.
