of Village's 2020 Strategic Plan

In 2020, Council adopted a Strategic Plan to guide various projects that needed to be undertaken. Overarching principles that Council considers are fiscal responsibility, planning for sustainable infrastructure, economic development and social, cultural and healthy living. Council along with Administration worked hard in 2020 to accomplish the projects outlined in the strategic plan. As costs continually increase, and most projects undertaken by municipalities are expensive, Council endeavours to get the best price and highest quality effort from the Village staff, contractors and others that provide services to this community. Following are Council accomplishments achieved in 2020, based on their Strategic Plan: Land Use Planning • Official Community Plan - Review Initiated and public engagement process occurred • Adopted Community Wildfire Protection Plan • Council approved a long term lease of lands on Shepherd Road for a low income seniors housing project being proposed by Oncore Seniors Society (Kamloops) • Grant funding has been secured to enable the Village to conduct flood risk assessments, flood plain mapping, flood mitigation planning, including community consultation • Council gave third reading to the Backyard

Hens bylaw, and have asked Administration to develop requirements and a permitting system before the bylaw is adopted • Housing Needs Assessment was completed and adopted by Council

Century 21 Lakeside Realty Ltd. Advertorial by author and journalist Carolyn Parks Mintz The Place 826 Shuswap Avenue, Chase, BC • 250.679.7748 • 250.819.0551 www.donnasb.com donna@century21lakeside.com The Management Donna Smith-Bradley The Story Sometimes we have to step beyond our personal comfort zone to explore, to grow, or to take on unique challenges. So it was with successful real estate agent Donna Smith-Bradley nearly a decade ago. After many years as a Geographical Information Systems technician, which included operating her own business in the GIS discipline, Donna was in need of a change. It was time to try something new and different, something that connected her to people rather than a computer. At the suggestion of husband Allan and with his support, she chose real estate. Given she is a detail person but also someone with a rather reticent personality, embarking on this fresh and unfamiliar profession suited her organizational abilities but it also tested her. It would be a new adventure, but one she welcomed. Although signing on the bottom line is the main goal of a seller and of a buyer, for

the realtor, the business is one of myriad recordkeeping, paperwork, advertising, contacting, information gathering, and being on-call 24/7. Provision of advice in a clear and concise manner, as well as developing relationships, are all part of each and every deal. Assisting with the purchase of a home, which is one of the most important decisions and investments of people’s lives, is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. And in Donna’s opinion, is one that must be treated with respect, honesty, and constructive guidance. She applies these principles whether it be about buying a vacation cabin, recreational property, an acreage, or a residence—while lending her experience and knowledge without overwhelming the client. Navigating constantly changing parameters and the ups and downs of the real estate landscape is something Donna enjoys—and are undertakings she guides both buyers and sellers through. ‘Being there’ for her clients is Donna’s strength, which they soon recognize and appreciate.
