Medical Needs & Housing
submitted by Dave Smith, Chase & District Health Services Foundation
Who Needs a Doctor?
Do you have a regular doctor that you see?? Do you use the Emergency Room at the Chase Health Centre?? Do you regularly use the Chase Health Centre? Chase needs doctors and nurses; presently Chase HealthCare Resources are short Doctors and Nurses, even temporary Locums are unable to give existing HealthCare Professionals time off, often due to no accommodations being available. Fewer doctors and fewer nurses means LESS MEDICAL CARE is available for all of our Chase Community residents. Healthcare services and personnel in the Interior Health Region have been greatly diminished over the past 3 years
and these cracks and gaps are beginning to create real problems in many Interior Communities. Chase needs your voice, please let your local elected officials know that we need help! How do you find short term temporary accommodations?? Our Chase & District Health Services Foundation are asking for Chase Community suggestions, ideas, and help
about how our Community of Chase can provide short term - temporary accommodations for visiting temporary replacement Doctors and Nurses working here in Chase. Please help us ensure that Chase keeps our Doctors, Nurses and HealthCare Staff. www.cdhsf.ca PO Box 1099, Chase, BC, V0E 1M0

Salmon Arm “Shuswap Coffee House” Happenings by Carolyn Parks Mintz Author, Freelance Writer & Journalist
Wildwood Productions and the Gleneden Association are pleased to again present the popular Coffee House evenings—entertainment events that ran for ten years during the 1970’s and 80’s— to be held at Gleneden Hall located at 5151 49th Street NW, just west of Salmon Arm, running off TransCanada Highway opposite Pierre’s Point Road. So, what is a “Coffee House?” The Oxford Canadian Dictionary defines it as a place serving coffee and refreshments, as well as (more significantly) live performances presented cabaret style. And that’s what will be re-staged at the Hall every third Saturday from fall to spring, with a break for the December holiday season—next Coffee House October 21st.. Shows will be Open Mic format, with talented local singers
and instrumentalists stepping up to the microphone and delivering music sure to lighten the mood and set toes to tapping. As an added attraction, poets and raconteurs are invited to weave their stories with readings that take audiences to imagined places through word pictures. In the interest of health safety, COVID protocols will be optional. Shuswap Coffee House doors will open at 6:30 pm for performer registrations and audience attendees, with the programme starting at 7:00 pm. A few spots can be booked in advance for out-of-town performers. Call 250.832.2300 to reserve. Beverages and snacks will be available. Admission fee is $5.00. Music and the arts – a panacea like no other. And a great way to add to your weekends.

Obituary Eva Maria Bohl June 5, 1933 – October 12, 2023 Eva was born in Schoningen, Germany. In her youth she experienced war. Her father died a prisoner of war in Russia. Eva came to Canada at 21 years old and settled in Prince Rupert, where she met Otto in a church choir, married him, and they raised three children. She helped out with the family business, Bohl’s Painting & Decorating. Their son Gary died at age 5 in a playground accident. In 1980, Otto, Eva and their son George moved to Chase and continued their painting business. Eva was a talented singer, lute player and pianist. She loved to knit and sew for her three generations of offspring and newborns of family and friends, and had boxes of baby outfits and blankets she knitted. Eva was a woman of faith with a deep love for God and Jesus, and she lived her life following the teachings of God’s Word. Eva loved living in Chase. She was grateful for the community rallying around her and Otto when their home burned in 2016. They enjoyed the outdoors around Chase when still able. In later years, a highlight of their day was frequenting local coffee shops and restaurants. In their final years they were regulars at Railside. Otto passed away last year. Eva is also predeceased by her brother Manfred, two stepsiblings, and sons Gary and Harold (stillborn). She is survived by her stepsister Helga and stepbrother Eugen (Helga), children George and Ruth (Mark), grandchildren Jeremy, Jonathan (Tanya) and Justin (Ruth), great grandchildren Konrad, Kira and Asher, and nephews and nieces. She is dearly missed. The funeral is at Evangelical Free Church in Chase on October 23 at 11 a.m.

Lee was head chef at the Hamper Society’s meal take out and delivery for Seniors, in place of the August inclusive cafè. You may also have seen him frequenting businesses around Chase and Snow plowing or pouring concrete every now and then for Lyle’s Concrete.
