Shame on those who have abused the system. Every small community in the country is trying hard to find medical practitioners and you do this! A simple phone call would have been enough to rectify the situation. I for one apologize for those who have abused the system and completely agree with the new policy. Our councils have worked long and hard for these people. The next time you visit your doctor thank him or her for taking a chance on us.

Hello to Chase
My friend in Chase sent me a parcel for my birthday. To my surprise and delight, there were copies of the Sunflower going back to January. So I learned about Kelsey buying the paper, congratulations to you, and that there is now a website where I can read each issue on line. I read them cover to cover, except for hockey news (sorry, hockey fans). The 10 questions is a great addition. So to all my friends in Chase, hi, I haven’t forgotten you. I hope you’re all well.

The second world war is depicted in thousands of novels and from many different perspectives. Markus shows the world of a young girl in Germany who resists and retaliates by protecting knowledge and stories. Liesel, an unconventional heroine, steals books destined to be destroyed by Nazi soldiers in their efforts to control and oppress. Liesel’s understanding of the
world is still evolving and with it her relationships, her family and her sense of justice. Any book lover will relate to The Book Thief and will realise that history affects people, but it is the stories that survive history that we are left to learn from.

Working together is fun and builds a stronger, more vibrant business community. The Chamber is very pleased with the efforts already made by some business owners and their employees. Special thanks to those who are responsible for the great new “thoughts for today” signs, colourful planters and eye-catching window arrangements visible throughout the Village. The public is also going to have the opportunity to participate in this project. Watch this newspaper for announcements about how you can be involved in the “People’s Choice Award” to be given annually to a local business chosen by you. rounding areas. And when you visit don’t be shy. Ask questions of any members present. They will be happy to identify rocks and minerals for you and to explain the crafts that they are demonstrating. Who knows, you may even join the local club and become a rockhound yourself!

BIKE LIT PULLED FROM PUBLIC DOMAIN The humorous essay, “Taming the Bicycle” by Mark Twain was written in 1884 and includes many, quotable lines. It was hard to choose just one, but here is an excerpt: Before taking final leave of me, my instructor inquired concerning my physical strength, and I was able to inform him that I hadn’t any. He said that that was a defect which would make up-hill wheeling pretty difficult for me at first; but he also said the bicycle would soon remove it. The contrast between his muscles and mine was quite marked. He wanted to test mine, so I offered my biceps -- which was my best. It almost
made him smile. He said, “It is pulpy, and soft, and yielding, and rounded; it evades pressure, and glides from under the fingers; in the dark a body might think it was an oyster in a rag.” Perhaps this made me look grieved, for he added, briskly: “Oh, that’s all right; you needn’t worry about that; in a little while you can’t tell it from a petrified kidney. Just go right along with your practice; you’re all right.” Then he left me, and I started out alone to seek adventures. You don’t really have to seek them -- that is nothing but a phrase -- they come to you.

Chase Fire Rescue - Thank Yous By Bill Banting, Deputy Fire Chief
Thank you Chase, our car wash and BBQ on April 18th was a great success. Thanks to you we raised $567. This money will assist us in the purchase of six voice amplifiers. With two on hand we have a ways to go. This equipment helps us to hear one another much better when on a structure fire. We have also been able to donate $150 to the Volunteer
Firefighters Association of BC. Whether it be for families of a fallen firefighter or just the need for financial assistance. Remember, Chase you made this possible. It’s always appreciated. Our next BBQ Car wash is on June 6th. Hope to see you there and a special thanks to Brooke and the Safety Mart staff for their ongoing understanding and use of their store front for fundraising.
