T
he Village of Chase is pleased to announce their involvement in the burgeoning live music scene across the Shuswap region this summer on Tuesday nights in July and August. The 9 week “Music On The Lake” Summer Music Series will be from 6:30pm – 8:30pm along the shores of the Little Shuswap Lake at Memorial Park in Chase. It will include a Park Market ran by the Chase & District Festival Society, Art in the Park ran by the Chase & District Chamber of Commerce, a Shop Local/Dine Local/Stay Local/Play Local campaign and more. Shuswap Tourism, a marketing
organization which assists tourism development, has become very aware of the critical mass of live music venues and festivals in the region and has seen the need to promote the need for live music under the Shuswap Tourism brand. Chase is also excited to share that we are now part of this marketing initiative! There will be live music now everyday throughout the summer in Sicamous, Enderby, Salmon Arm, Scotch Creek, Blind Bay and now Chase! The Village of Chase Mayor and Council sees this as a great marketing opportunity to promote our beautiful village and surrounding areas. Continued on page 5

Funds raised in Chase for Fort McMurray Residents by Kelsey Snelgrove Many Canadians have made personal donations to the Red Cross over the past month to support residents of Fort McMurray who have been displaced by wildfires. Some Chase residents took the fundraising step further. Lisa Dunphy and Dori Cirjack raised $986 through a hot dog and hamburger fundraiser last Sunday. They got permission and set up in front of Safety Mart and in an afternoon collected nearly a grand! “Everybody was so generous,” said Cirjack, who tries to do
a fundraiser every year for a different important cause. The Village of Chase are also accepting donations. So far they have received $411.00, as well as some new necessary items like diapers, formula, clothes which were sent to the Edmonton Rescue Centre. The Village is continuing to collect cash donations until Canada Day at the office then at the park during Canada Day celebrations. The federal government has offered to match donations made to the Canadian Red Cross to help those affected by the wildfire.

Business of the Week: Aylmer Road Storage
Getting to know our businesses leaders and local organizations
A Service of the Chase & District Chamber of Commerce, Written by Kelsey Snelgrove
Seasonal gear? Boat in the way? To much stuff? Why not store some of it? Shelly and Mitch Aimies are longtime residents of Chase who decided to branch into storage back in 2009 with the launch of Aylmer Road Storage. The couple bought 3 lots in the industrial area of Chase and their business has grown since then. Several container sizes are available: 5’ x 8’, an 8 x 10’ or an 8’ x 20’, depending on your n e e d s . Locked up security for both indoor and outdoor storage is provided. Ay l m e r Road Storage is open 7 days a week until 8 pm, and offer convenient keyless entry. Shelly and Mitch’s residence is located on the property, so they can offer as much accessibility as possible. They have 24 hr security surveillance at the facility.
Whether you are in the process of moving, or just need to get some things out of your garage, Aylmer Road Storage will try hard to accommodate your needs. “I feel strongly that my customers are what make my business what it is, and for that reason alone we work hard to make their stay here pleasant.” said Shelly. “The stress of moving is hard, we strive to help make the experience as smooth as possible.” The business has also worked hard to build a relationship with the community of Chase; they provide storage for the Chase Lions Club and the Chase Rotary Club’s concession trailers, free of charge. “We feel both clubs are an amazing asset to have here in Chase, and we have total respect for what they do for our community,” said Shelly. They also believe in “supporting our local schools as well as our local sports kids”, and they also donate a locker to the Chase Youth Soccer. The first work party/open house at Spotted Moose Farm in Celista was productive and fun. You have another chance this Sunday, May 22nd to visit and learn what it takes to transfer a 2 acre plot into a thriving permaculture farm. Tech Talk: Anti-virus Solutions by Stefan Schielke, inTechrity
Many people have questions and concerns about antivirus software. First, let’s define the term “computer virus”. A small program that is designed to spread from one computer to another to interfere with computer operations. What does that really mean? A computer virus might corrupt or delete data on your computer, use your email program to spread itself to other computers, or obtain personal or business information from your computer. How do we get viruses? Computer viruses are most often spread by attachments in email messages. That is why it is essential that you are cautious when opening email attachments. Viruses can be disguised as attachments of funny images, greeting cards, or audio and video files. Computer viruses also spread through downloads on the Internet. They can be hidden in illicit software or other files or programs you might download. How can we get rid of a virus? Not every virus is easy to remove. Some viruses are made to replicate themselves so that they can hide inside your computer undetected. Once a virus is on your computer, its type or the method it used to get there is not as important as removing it and preventing further infection. Scanning your computer with your personal antivirus software can remove most viruses. Other viruses require a deep penetration using specialized software. If you believe that your computer is infected with a virus, you should immediately close all programs and shut your computer off from accessing the internet. You need to either physically remove the Ethernet cable or turn off your WiFi. Many viruses can steal
your user names, passwords, banking information, everything that you type on your keyboard. By removing online access, you are removing the ability for this information to leave your computer. Next, set your antivirus software to run a complete scan on your system. If any viruses are found, follow the steps advised by your antivirus software. The best protection against interference from a virus is to run antivirus software on your computer. Good antivirus software will scan attachments and websites before you open them and alert you. In addition, antivirus software must also be current to be effective. Keeping your software updated is essential to the safety of your computer. It is often difficult to decide which program to use with so many options available. Windows 7, look for Microsoft Security Essentials as a great free tool. Windows 8.1 & 10 has Windows Defender is built in. Windows XP or Vista users should look at a paid program like Bitdefender. Mac users, Sophos Home has you covered. In addition to antivirus software, install the free version of Malwarebytes for added protection. At the end of the day, no anti-virus provides 100 percent protection from the many threats. We suggest making wise decisions on the web because it is the safest method. Contact us if you think your computer may be infected. 250.679.7744 stefan@inTechrity.ca www.inTechrity.ca
