Unleashing a lifelong passionpassion to learn, lead and serve Unleashing a lifelong to learn, lead and serve

Promise Statement Centered in the shared love of Christ, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy is the college-preparatory, preschool through grade 12 independent school that inspires and challenges students to discover, hone, and steward their one-of-a-kind gifts as they come to know themselves as distinct and unconditionally loved creations of God. CHCA’s vibrant, multi-denominational family of learners creates a sheltering—but not sheltered— environment where, supporting each other and guided by expert Christian teachers, students wrestle with increasingly complex, timeless, essential questions in order to strengthen their minds and their faith. Beginning with the end in mind, CHCA graduates young adults fully prepared to succeed in college and beyond; to engage effectively and lovingly with different cultures, viewpoints, and ideas; and to achieve significant impact and influence with discerning wisdom, courageous curiosity, and resilient Christian faith— where others pull back, they lean into life.

A Message from the Board of Trustees Treasurer On behalf of the Board of Trustees Finance Committee, I am pleased to report that once again our independent auditor, BKD, LLP, has issued a “clean” opinion regarding Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy’s (CHCA’s) financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2017. In this Annual Report on philanthropy, you will find the consolidated financial statements as well as graphic representation of revenues and expenses, which illustrate the financial health of CHCA. Van Jura Family: Brian, Jodi, Anna ’18, Abby ‘22

The Board of Trustees strives, in its deliberations and actions, to support the values and traditions of CHCA and to foster the healthy growth and development of our programs over time. Our vision for the future defines critical elements for fulfilling key aspects of our strategic plan. Consistently enhancing the quality of our instruction and student/faculty engagement in an ever-changing world is an ongoing imperative. Your contributions allow us to realize these plans and to maintain our financial strength in support of our vision. We are funding initiatives for learning, faculty support, facilities, financial aid, academic enrichment, arts, athletics, and environmental programs. We are all deeply grateful to you for your trust, your gifts, and your time. As we move forward with our eye on the future of CHCA, we assure you that the Board of Trustees remains focused on maintaining the highest level of education and student engagement in an academically excellent, Christ-centered institution. We ask for your continued prayers over our community. As always, we welcome your feedback. Blessings, Brian Van Jura Treasurer, Board of Trustees

Message from the Board of Trustees President From its very beginning, the mission of CHCA has been ambitious and inspiring. The school’s vision statement declares: Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy will unleash each student’s God-given gifts through Christ-centered academic excellence. We are devoted to developing the whole person, and instilling a lifelong passion for learning, leading, and serving.

CHCA Board President Andy Espenshade, his wife Kerry (CHCA FOFA Board Vice President), Kelsey ‘25, and Connor ‘22

The more I read that bold statement, the more I am inspired by it, and the more I realize the impact that vision has had on my children. Some schools excel in athletics, and others provide challenging academics; some offer strong fine arts programs, and others may teach strong Christian foundations and instruction. But I believe CHCA is truly unrivaled as an institution that offers all of these critical traits and so much more, and truly inspires each student to discover, develop, and yes, unleash their God-given talents – whatever those might be. Colossians 2:2-3 states: “My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” I see this realized in our children every time I step on campus – children full of hope, full of encouragement, full of love for each other, and full of God’s words and wisdom, each well on their way to becoming who God made them to be. This Annual Report on CHCA’s philanthropy seeks to recognize the generosity of those who have dedicated their time, energy, and resources to help realize the school’s vision and mission. We, the Board of Trustees, realize that nothing CHCA does would be possible without the generous spirit of our CHCA community – families, grandparents, alumni, and friends – those who give generously to our school through the Annual Fund, capital giving, time, and other initiatives. This show of support lends the Board great momentum as we celebrate the school’s past, and move forward into the next phase in the life of CHCA. Partnering closely with the school administration, the Board of Trustees focuses its efforts on the school’s long-term vision and financial viability and stability. We see excellence and ongoing potential in our curriculum, our facilities, and in our structure – all signs that bode well for the health of the school. Together with the historical perspective of our trustees and the variety of expertise and experience on our Board, we provide a solid foundation upon which to build an exciting future. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I again wish to simply say, “thank you”. It is your support for our mission, your heart for God’s plans at CHCA, and your commitment to our students that makes all of this possible. For this we are truly blessed, and truly grateful. Sincerely, Andy Espenshade President, Board of Trustees

A Message from the Board of Trustees Development Chair “Inspirational God moments that result in great joy!” Giving is an inspiration and a very personal decision. God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9:7), and this community has demonstrated incredible generosity and joy in giving. Last year CHCA experienced one of the most exciting giving seasons in our history. With support for CHCA’s Capital Campaign – Light the Way – along with continuing support for the Annual Fund, Fine Arts, Athletics, Celebration, and Robotics, God must have been smiling ear to ear! CHCA Board of Trustees Development Chair Pervis Bearden, his wife Robin and their daughter, Kennedy ’21

Nearly $3,000,000 cash in total for all areas of the school was received by CHCA in this school year. Here are just some of the areas that were generously supported: Annual Fund, AfterProm, Armleder Endowment, Athletics, Celebration, Fine Arts, Hope Scholarship, Intersession Scholarship, Light the Way Campaign, Promise Campaign, and Robotics! We are most grateful for the way this community makes sacrifices to help develop the intellect and faithfulness of every student, preparing them for God’s inspiration in the world!

Having a little fun too!

The CHCA Annual Fund 2016-2017 took an approach in its communication to help expand the understanding of why we fundraise, while having a little fun along the way. Head of School Randy Brunk launched an inspirational video message with the backdrop of his parents’ home amidst the beautiful Wyoming Mountains, and several creative communications and infographics pieces were used to communicate the mission and need for the Annual Fund. And in April, we launched the first ever CHCA 24-hour #WhatIf Challenge – communicating the need for Annual Fund to help us finish our year and cover that which tuition does not. Last but certainly not least, on June 30th a most generous gift helped CHCA meet EXCEEDING NORMS the goal and successfully cross the Participation by Constituency for finish line. With each outreach Annual Fund as compared to NAIS and unique approach, you, our Constituency NAIS Benchmark 2016/17 Alumni 6% 6% community, helped to exceed Current Parents 53% 61% nearly all participation benchmark New Families n/a 68% Grandparents 12% 16% standards set by the National Alumni Parents 19% 20% Association of Independent Board 100% 100% Faculty/Staff 87% 78% Schools (NAIS). We are grateful for your participation and thank you for being a part of this generous community! Sincerely, Pervis Beardon Development Chair, Board of Trustees

Our Family’s CHCA Experience: Q&A with the Sasse Family Benjamin, Jennifer, Noah ‘29, Lyla ‘30, Hope (PK2)

What drew you to CHCA?

We were first drawn to CHCA for the Christ-centered mission, as we wanted our children to be in a school environment that was consistent with our values as a family. The more we discovered about the CHCA experience – the high academic standards, the well-rounded investment in all aspects of a child’s development to include spiritual, emotional, character, and leadership development, an impressive fine arts program, and strong sports teams – we wanted it all! That was what initially drew us. After my son’s first week at CHCA in PK3, we could hear him in his room talking. Curious to learn what he was doing, we went in to check on him and caught him just having a conversation with God! Our little boy was praying on his own with precious words that touched us, and we envisioned God smiling at our Noah. Our hearts were captured from that moment on...that confirmed this truly was the perfect place for us and our sweet boy was growing after week one!

What motivates you to support CHCA?

We believe in CHCA’s purpose and in the people leading our school. This is a special place and a ministry we want to be a part of for a long time. From the beginning, we made a commitment to be a part of CHCA and to make this a top priority as a family to invest financially, with our time and with our prayers. The standard of excellence at CHCA is so incredibly high, I’m often in awe at how well things are done. I recently experienced “The Sound of Music” production with my daughter Lyla and I felt like I was at a major theatre, given the talent and production quality! Benjamin has gone with Noah to almost every Eagles football game since he was in PK and the team has done so well each year. It’s fun to be a part of that experience! What we love most is the philosophy of “win twice”, winning both on the athletic field and in how we play to honor Christ. How awesome is that! What a powerful value for our children to learn from an early age. That is something we want to be a part of – both for our own children and as a ministry for the broader community. Noah, Grade 1, enjoys being a part of a place where teachers and administrators believe in him and encourage his unique gifts. He’s so excited about how he’s growing each year and he loves his friends. Noah’s also excited to be an Eagles football player someday!

Lyla, Kindergarten, enjoys being a part of a classroom that cultivates her passion for learning and with a teacher who keeps her challenged. She also loves art, music, and the dance team that she’s just joined for the first year! Hope, PK2, loves her teachers because she loves their hugs! She also likes the new facilities that spark her curiousity and keep her engaged. Hope also really enjoys being at the “big girl” school where she sees her sister and brother at times throughout the day. They all enjoy being together in the same place.

Given your busy schedule what do you most enjoy being a part of at CHCA?

Our children are with teachers and administration who really know them and love them during the day. We just can’t say enough about how much we appreciate them as they share their gifts and mastery to invest in teaching and building into our children. ‘Thank you’ never seems enough for what they do – they give their very best day after day. They share our values and there is a consistency of faith and growth in their school life that is an extension of what we focus on at home. We value the flexibility in programs and schedules, having used the extended day program that meets our needs for after school care.

Any other thoughts you want to share?

We’ve been a part of the CHCA for five years now as our oldest son started in the Early Learning Program. What began as a welcoming community of amazing teachers, administration, and families are now extended family for us. We do life together. The other parents build into our own children too by volunteering, and together we help partner with the school to help create the highest quality environment for our children. I just know they are here for our family, pray for us, drop notes of encouragement, and catch our children in special moments that are shared back with us. We strive to do the same for them. CHCA has truly been a blessing to our family!

Soaring Eagle Event 2017 June 14th was like many Cincinnati evenings – hot, humid, and a strong threat of storms – but that did not dampen the lively gathering of those who attended the 6th Annual Soaring Eagle Circle of Giving event held at the beautiful home of Rick and Karen Kohlan. The evening was filled with joyfulness and fellowship as the gathering grew to over 60 friends old and new. They reminisced about the years gone by and shared hopes for the future. Board President, Andy Espenshade, opened the evening with a prayer of gratitude and blessings over those gathered in the room and for those who could not be there – sharing gratitude and blessings for the dedication and generosity that has been built into CHCA from the beginning. Following Andy, Head of School Randy Brunk shared an update on the construction which included anticipated completion of all projects and confirmation that they would be ready to open for the new school year. Randy further shared about the focus on the new divisions of our school – The Blake Lindner Thompson Early Childhood Learning Center (PK2, PK3, PK4), the Lower School (KPrep - Grade 6), the Upper School (Grades 7 – 12), and Armleder School (PK6 downtown). He explained that our former Middle School building-centric approach of Grades 5 to 8 was a challenge, and he leveraged research to explain why. Some of his highlights:

• Adolescence occurs between Grades 6 and 7 at which time a phenomenon called brain pruning also occurs.

• Students in Grades 7 and 8 want to be given more responsibility and they can handle it too.

• An 8th grader does not want to be treated like a 5th grader and certainly you can’t treat a 5th grader like an 8th grader. Randy then introduced Dr. Dean Nicholas, Upper School principal, who expanded upon this and how our Upper School format comes alongside this research.

Dean spoke about the intentionality of preparing students and partnering with parents, in order to unleash a fully prepared and resiliently faithful student at graduation. He highlighted that this begins in the Upper School at Grades 7 and 8 and then talked about some of the program enhancements that have been introduced. A wonderful book that supports this concept, How to Raise an Adult by Julie Lythcott-Haims, was distributed to all current families as a read last summer, as well as to all Soaring Eagle attendees. While this book wasn’t written from a Christian point of view, we have taken key concepts from the outstanding content outlined in this book and applied them through a Kingdom lens by way of discussion guides and community groups. Encouraging families to read the book was not a personal endorsement of the author, rather it was encouraging the discussion–what does raising a kingdom-minded adult look like in our world today? 10

Dean proceeded to share this (recapped in his words): We are so excited about our new CHCA Upper School. We are the only six-year, Christ-centered college preparatory academy in the area. Our program intends to raise up strong Christian young women and men who are prepared to thrive in college and beyond. We live in a world where too much focus is placed on grades, test scores, and getting into the “right” college, causing students to focus on outcomes rather than learning, creating what Julia Lythcott-Haims calls “the check-listed childhood” in her best-selling book “How to Raise an Adult.” Our Upper School program focuses instead on creating a learning environment where students think critically, innovate, and follow their passions beginning in 7th grade. Some examples of recent changes include:

• Mandatory English Composition class alongside English Literature class in Grades 7-8;

• Student Directed Learning (Grades 7-8) and Personal

Responsibility Time (Grades 9-12), giving students the opportunity to manage their own time each day;

• Hands on learning in Intersessions: Change our World Week

(Grades 7-8), and January Terms / May Terms (Grades 9-12);

• Entrepreneurship opportunities with the Leaning Eagle Coffee Bar

and the Blend Smoothie Breakfast Bar (Grades 9-12), the MiniCup (Grades 7-8), and next year, the School Store;

• STEAM and engineering opportunities from robotics teams in

Grades 7-12 as well as engineering classes for college credit through the University of Texas;

• Independent research and Capstone Project opportunities for

students: from published research in aquaponics, to investigations into peace-making in the Middle East, studying the Baptist church under Communism in Cuba, exploring the culinary arts, and building a functioning dancing fountain, and more.

So as students are challenged to follow their passions, take ownership of their learning, and fully develop all areas of their lives, we continually come back to the core of our existence as a school and push them to think about what it means for Christ to be in the center of our learning, leading, and serving and what might God be calling us to do with our lives. If we do these things, we believe the grades and test scores and college acceptances will fall into place. But the measure of a successful Upper School is the lives of our alumni. We are excited for what the future holds. And as we move into our new spaces in the fall, we will encourage our students to dream of what is next in our CHCA Upper School. All in all it was a lovely evening and a chance for everyone to be reminded once again of the power of a Christian education, and the importance of schools like CHCA and the graduates our school produces. The world needs more CHCA graduates changing the world for His Kingdom. Quality Christian education does not happen without the generosity of our families. Thank you for your continued faithful support and generosity.

Soaring Eagle Circle of Giving 2017

(recognizing gifts received July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017)

Before Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy could be the school it is today, several families had to take a leap of faith. They faithfully funded a dream and a vision of what would come to be known as Cincinnati’s Christ-centered, academically rigorous learning community. The blessing of their gift is evident as we celebrate nearly 30 years of excellence in our mission, lived out each day through the shared love of Christ, the high caliber of our faculty, the generous community, and the beauty of our facilities here at CHCA. The Soaring Eagle Circle of Giving celebrates individuals and families who carry on the legacy our founders started by faithfully investing in CHCA (whether through a gift of $2,500 or more to the Annual Fund, a record of giving any amount to the Annual Fund for at least 15 years, or a lifetime record of giving $100,000 or more to CHCA)

CHCA’s First Annual Block Party Celebration Launched the School Year with New Faces and New Spaces CHCA’s recent capital campaign, “Light the Way”, became a reality for families as we welcomed students this school year to enhanced programming and curriculum, as well as an expanded preschool, new innovation labs, and collaboration spaces--all designed to provide a rigorous, engaging, academic, and faith-based education. The “Light the Night” Block Party Celebration was held to officially launch the new spaces and programs, and most importantly, to celebrate what God has done through our community. This event was held September 9, 2017 featuring multiple food trucks, a pep rally, scavenger hunt, tours of the new spaces, followed by CHCA’s home football game. Tours of the new spaces included The Blake Lindner Thompson Early Childhood Learning Center, an expanded 22,000 square foot facility with open classrooms, an Atelier creative studio, indoor and outdoor playscapes, learning gardens, and a lightfilled piazza. CHCA’s Early Learning Program has expanded to serve children beginning at age two, with state-of-the-art learning spaces and flexible scheduling options. Head of School Randy Brunk shares, “We believe that an expanded, strong early learning program will better serve families of our youngest children and will provide an even stronger learning foundation as students head into the primary school years.” An expanded Lower Elementary features a new wing for Grades 4-6, located at Founders’ Campus, that houses new science labs and an innovation and collaboration space, as well as new

outdoor play spaces and a new cafeteria. Most notably, CHCA recently restructured programming to establish the Upper School as Cincinnati’s only Christcentered six-year college prep high school, serving students in Grades 7-12. Grades 7-8 are being empowered with the tools, knowledge, and disciplines to flourish in the high school years by being fully engaged at relational, cognitive, and spiritual levels. “With a culture that fosters maturity and school spirit, students rise to meet increased expectations for taking ownership of their learning, cultivating an internal motivation for learning and self-advocacy that will best serve them as they head into their freshman year and well beyond,” says Brunk. With opportunities to take college courses in high school, pursue your passions via independent research, grow entrepreneurship skills, and cultivate your curiosity in every subject, CHCA’s Upper School truly offers a unique experience for our students. Tours of the Upper School showcased innovation labs and collaboration spaces that are designed to facilitate more handson learning opportunities. (Robotics and zSpace virtual reality demos were featured at the time of the tours.) Students are

now able to study, research, and work in teams on projects in the collaboration spaces (these spaces include ideation rooms, comfortable seating areas, and internet bars). The innovation spaces are already fostering creativity and leadership, where students and teachers can have lectures with dimensional learning and take risks in ways that stimulate discussion and creative thinking. The spaces are also being used to support CHCA’s Teacher Innovation Fund grant initiative, designed to empower teachers to inspire innovative high-engagement learning opportunities for students, while reaching their established benchmarks. In addition to these spaces, CHCA is also home to a new Environmental Sciences Center Greenhouse, which will not only enhance the school’s renowned aquaponics program, foster university level research opportunities, and provide additional labs, but will also serve as an opportunity for CHCA’s youngest students to learn about the Greenhouse effect…in an actual Greenhouse! CHCA is equipped like never before to fully engage students at all grade levels. From 3D printers to zSpace to news programming to student-run businesses, everywhere you turn, this new generation of learners is taking advantage of opportunities that are expanding their experience both within and outside of the classroom walls. “Light the Night” was a way to celebrate and thank the community for the generosity that has allowed this growth and innovation. It was also simply a wonderful time of fellowship among our community. We look forward to more opportunities to come together to celebrate, worship, learn, and grow. We’re grateful for all God has provided!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 13

Returning to CHCA: Q&A with the Anderson Family Mr. Maurice Anderson, Dr. Ninah Enane-Anderson, Josh ‘22

What drew you to CHCA?

The community of caring and compassionate people whose families can be a part of and contribute to the education of young people with a strong Christian foundation.

What motivates you to support CHCA?

A community that offers excellent educational foundation with a Christcentered values and approach can only help build strong future leaders. Joshua, grade 8 enjoys being a part of this community of class friends, teachers, administration, and of course sports because the relationships have enabled him to grow as young adult, partnering with CHCA leaders (teachers, coaches, administration).

Given your busy schedule what do you most enjoy being a part of at CHCA?

The one-on-one personal connections with community members – administration, students, teachers, and other parents.

Any other thoughts you want to share?

We love CHCA. Joshua started school here at CHCA in first grade, and was passionate about coming back after we lived in Singapore for a while. What drew our family back was the intentional inclusion as part of the CHCA family of believers. We continue to celebrate the joy of seeing Joshua grow as part of a phenomenal Christian community that has given him a strong foundation as a future leader.

CHCA Launched the First Ever 24-Hour Donor #WhatIfChallenge Our school operates with a model that relies on charitable investments. Essentially, student tuition covers all school finances through 04/24. From 04/25 through the end of the school year, the school is funded through charitable investments to CHCA’s Annual Fund. In other words, 04/24 is the last day that tuition pays the bills. And when tuition runs out, who steps in? Generous donors who support the Annual Fund! Annual Fund Parent Donors

(recognizing pledges and gifts received July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017)

CHCA’s Annual Fund benefits every student, faculty, and staff member. Tuition covers 86% of the total cost to educate a student, and the Annual Fund makes up the difference. Why doesn’t tuition cover all education costs? Each year, CHCA’s Board of Trustees sets tuition at the lowest cost possible to make a CHCA an affordable option for more families. And the gap between tuition costs and the cost to educate a student is filled by tax deductible gifts to the Annual Fund and eligible government funding. So, the generosity of our community fuels closing the gap on engaging curriculum, award-winning programming, robust student activities, efficient business operations, students in need of tuition assistance, and salaries and benefits for exceptional faculty and staff. Enjoying the Blessings of CHCA: Q&A with the Puryear Family Jerome, Latonya, Kennedy ’21, Payton ’23, Jayden ’26, Quentin (PK3) zone. She has also become a member of a diverse support group which is affectionately known as the “Lunch Bunch” with whom she studies and enjoys meeting outside of CHCA.

What drew you to CHCA?

We researched private schools in the area and were impressed that CHCA was ranked among the top in academics/college admissions, offered the spiritual component, and was a reasonable price.

What motivates you to support CHCA?

We have been very blessed to be in the positions we are professionally due in part to the generosity of others, and feel that we are obligated to at least do for others what has been done for us, and even exceed that if we are able.

Tell us a bit about your children.

Kennedy is a freshman who enjoys being the only freshman on the varsity tennis team because it enabled her to become friends with students who she may not have otherwise met this year. We liked it because it forced her to venture outside of her comfort

24

Payton is in Grade 7 and enjoys being a part of the volleyball team, which culminated in winning season with the MVC championship. She enjoys volleyball because it is a team sport and lends to a different dynamic that she has when playing tennis. Jayden, Grade 4, enjoys being a part of new Upper Elementary program because she feels a sense of progression now that she has successfully matriculated thru Lower Elementary. Quentin, in PK3, loves his “new school”, as is the first real school experience he has had. He enjoys meeting new friends and is learning the value of self-restraint and sharing his space with others!

What do you most enjoy being a part of at CHCA?

We enjoy being a sports mom and dad to our older three children, their academic successes, and being able to watch Quentin start what we hope will be a successful journey in the ECLC.

Celebration 2017

Celebration 2017 was a night of FUNdraising for 400 guests and volunteers at the Savannah Center on February 25, 2017. The evening included a record 750 silent auction items featuring something for everyone’s budget and desire. Our new “Craft Beer Raffle” was a huge success, selling out very quickly. During dinner, guests were entertained as artist Mark Thesken created a masterpiece before our eyes. The Live auction included two puppies that melted the hearts of many and went home with two very happy families. Through the generosity of sponsors, donors, volunteers, and attendees, together we raised $180,000 to support CHCA. In addition to the gala, Celebration sponsors the Annual Daddy Daughter Dance and the Ladies’ “Peek a Boutique” Christmas Shopping Night. We strive to provide opportunities for fellowship while raising funds to support CHCA.

(recognizing pledges and gifts received July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017)

At every grade level, CHCA students are encouraged to sing, play, act, dance, paint, and sculpt to their heart’s content. The wide range of choices means children get countless opportunities to discover and develop their unique talents; great facilities and outstanding teachers mean they get optimal conditions in which to discover, grow, be challenged, and do their best work. This past year was yet again no exception to the extraordinary talent displayed at CHCA, as dozens of our Fine Arts students and alumni were recognized for their gifts and talents.

Why We Give: Q&A with the Rempe Family Bill, Barbie, Elena ’19, Sophia ‘22

What drew you to CHCA?

Giving our kids a Christian education was important to us. Having their school and teachers support our values and incorporate a Christ-centric approach was something we sought out and deeply value.

What motivates you to support CHCA?

We sorta like the way our kids are turning out. They’re not perfect, but at CHCA they are challenged, encouraged, and loved. The quality of education is matched with exceptional programs and activities that are helping them develop as well-rounded people. Elena, junior, enjoys being a part of CHCA’s musical productions and Ultimate Frisbee team. Sophie, grade 8, enjoys being a part of the 7th & 8th grade volleyball team and CHCA’s musical productions.

What do you most enjoy about being a part of CHCA?

The community. CHCA uniquely brings together kids, families and faculty. Together, we get to be a part of something extraordinarily special.

A Message from CHCA Alumni Relations The Alumni Relations role has grown immensely over the past year and has been able to create more impact in the alumni community because of the solid foundation that was established in past years, as well as the new vision implemented by the Alumni Board. The direction we have put our focus on is Alumni business connections and social media. For our team, this means reaching out to connect and empower our alumni professionals to further their careers, passions, and businesses. We are offering more awareness opportunities than ever before via social media, sponsorship, and advertising opportunities. In fact this past year, the Board introduced an entirely new annual event called the “Alumni Showcase”. Similar to the annual Alumni Chapel that takes place every year in May, we invite inspirational alumni to speak to the students about life, business, and faith. This year, we featured music by the alumni band, “Updog (’02),” and invited Andy Garrett (class of ’09) to speak about how his faith journey led him to a new passion that gave way to his company “Breakout”. To say it was a powerful message would be a drastic understatement. After chapel, we featured alumni businesses lining the atrium with advertisements, goods, and services with which the current CHCA students could connect. We are hoping to have this event grow each year, so that alumni can utilize the CHCA platform and community to better their businesses and impact current students. One of the greatest investments we have made has been through our social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram. These are the major forms of communication of our time, and they have opened up our community to connection and involvement. We have done virtual tours, live streaming of events, and kept Alumni up-todate on any and all opportunities. The response has been major this past year, and we are preparing to fine tune our outreach through these platforms in the coming years. It has been an absolute pleasure working with other alumni and CHCA’s Development and Communications teams to bridge the communication barrier within our community and search for solutions to further support alumni where they are right now in life at every stage. I look forward to continuing to serve and further connect our Alumni community as we move forward! In His service, Sarah Robinson ‘09 Alumni Relations Coordinator

Getting to Know the Phillips Family Scott, Jenny, Abby, Will ’14, Ben ’16, Jack ’18, Mike ‘20 We choose CHCA because we see a place where our kids are challenged academically, have opportunities to participate in sports and other activities, and have relationships with teachers who desire to help them grow in character. We give to CHCA because we believe in the mission and the team at CHCA – the faculty, staff, and coaches.

A bit about our family:

• Our daughter Abby graduated from Lakota, Cincinnati Christian and received her Masters from University of Dayton. She is married and currently the Director of Kids Ministry Grades K-5 at Crossroads Church Mason. • Will ‘14 attends Calvin University studying psychology and business. CHCA helped him wrestle with his faith, explore values, and examine the mission of his life. • Ben ’16 at the University of Cincinnati studying Integrated Media/V. CHCA influenced him by helping him discover his leadership skills, giftings, and passion in electronic media. • Jack is a senior and has enjoyed playing soccer, lacrosse, and ultimate Frisbee at CHCA. CHCA has helped Jack to be challenged academically, to have a variety of team experiences, and to grow his confidence and his identity. • Mike is a sophomore and enjoys playing lacrosse. CHCA is challenging his faith, stretching him academically, and his teachers are helping to shape him. • Scott enjoys cheering at athletic events to support the students and serving on the board because it allows him to use his experience and giftings to give back to the community. • Jenny chooses to be involved in volunteering at school and getting to know the faculty and students, because God has gifted the school with people who have a heart to know Him and to be used by Him.

Our hope for this community is that CHCA would continue to provide high quality experiences for students spiritually, academically, creatively, and athletically. We also hope that CHCA can continue to challenge students to establish roots in their faith and give them a vision for how God wants to use them to bring more of His Kingdom to the world.

Step into CHCA and you will discover an extraordinary, Christ-centered education unlike any within the city, where students have countless opportunities to CHOOSE MORE. Here they find their place, pursue their gifts, strengthen their faith, and make an impact on our world. And the outcome? Students realize they can BE MORE.

Advancing CHCA Since CHCA’s earliest days, our students and teachers have greatly benefitted from strong financial support of an engaged and generous community that has helped our school to flourish academically, spiritually, and socially. By being engaged, active, and generous, this community ensures that our teachers and students have the support they need to live out the mission and make a difference both today and tomorrow. Please prayerfully consider your family’s participation to further the mission of CHCA. Visit chca-oh.org/Support

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
