Fine Arts Dance Academy Brochure - 2015

Page 1

CHCA Dance Academy is not just an after-school program; it is a dance academy exclusively for our CHCA students. We offer a variety of levels that include recreational, technique and competitive options. Our professional faculty features instructors who have danced and choreographed professionally national and regional awards for choreography and performance. Our program also offers an ALL INCLUSIVE tuition system, meaning you are charged a flat fee for classes, costuming, spirit wear, competitions, etc. This makes the financial commitment easy to budget. Traditional studios generally charge tuition and then charge for all of the ‘extras’ throughout the year. The only expenses not covered in CHCA’s program will be personal items (e.g., shoes, tights, hairpins, makeup), competition entry fees and costumes for solo and ensemble performers, and travel expenses. If you are new to our studio and need help with registration, plesae contact the Dance Program Director Melissa Kidd at Melissa.Kidd@chca-oh.org. Please remember that you cannot sign up for competitive teams without an audition. Contact Meilissa if you have questions regarding auditions.

Competitive teams require one ballet class, one jazz technique class, and a competitive team rehearsal for each team. Teams are offered in the genres of contemporary and jazz. Teams compete four times per year, perform at two to three basketball games, ArtBeat and May Showcase. Some extra performances may be offered.

Technique classes focus on flexibility, body lines/placement, control and dance turns and leaps. Classes will not perform in the May showcase and are strictly to improve technical ability.

SOLOISTS & ENSEMBLES Soloists and Ensembles will be selected by invitation only and are based on ability level and dancer readiness. TIMING All classes run late August through the last week in April and coordinate with the CHCA calendar, which means classes will not be held on school holidays. Competitive Team dancers will have one to two additional choreography classes for each routine in August before the dance classes begin in order to learn their routine for the year. Competition dates, basketball games and other performances will be announced in early fall.

EARLY MAY, 2015 Online registration opens AUGUST 3, 2015 Online registration closes for competitive teams AUGUST 17-22, 2015 Choreography Camps for Competitive Teams (Days/Times TBA) AUGUST 19, 2015 Online registration closes for recreational and technique classes

**Since class size is limited, the CHCA Dance Academy program will be a yearlong enrollment and financial commitment. The annual registration closes on August 3 for competitive teams and on August 19 for recreational and technique classes. If your student withdraws from the competition program during the year, you are still responsible for the full amount of your financial commitment. For students enrolled in technique and recreational classes ONLY, you will enroll for the year and the fee will be based on the full year. However, withdrawals effective for the second semester will be accepted if submitted to the Program Director AND Fine Arts Director using the Dance Academy withdrawal form by October 1. In this case, instruction fees will be deducted through November 1, which effectively means the cost for the first semester will be greater than half of the annual fee. Program and registration fees are non-refundable.

APRIL 9, 2016 - AR TBEAT

IMPOR TANT SCHEDULING NOTE Students enrolled in Competitive Teams will receive priority registration in technique classes. Because we have scheduled the technique classes immediately before or after a performance or competitive rehearsal for each group, these students will be enrolled first. If a technique class fills, a second class will be opened and you will be notified of the change.
