June’s Grace Family Night: Our Family Night activity on Wednesday, June 17th at 6:30 PM will be a parish picnic in the Parish Hall (Avoid the heat and the bugs!). The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and iced tea. Please bring salads, veggies, baked beans, chips, or desserts to share. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the main bulletin board. Once again, Bill Horne will serve as our grill master.
NEW LUTHERAN BISHOP ELECTED! The Rev. Timothy Smith was elected May 30, to be the new bishop of the N.C. Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Smith, a North Carolina native who previously led Lutheran churches in Boone and Newton, has been the senior pastor at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Peachtree Street in Atlanta since 2010. Pastor Smith is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and will succeed Bishop Leonard Bolick, who retired after serving 18 years – the longest tenure in the ELCA. Bishop-elect Smith will take office on August 1. His official installation as bishop will take place September 12 at Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte.
The interior repair of the damaged ceiling in Grace House has been completed. Due to the generousity of Gary and Sheryl Bauer, all the bulbs in the pendant lanterns in the church nave and choir have been replaced with energy efficient long-life LED bulbs. Enjoy the brighter lighting! A big ‘thank you’ to Jerry Jupina for cleaning and whitening the riser faces of the church and office steps, and to Hillie Hughes for providing and planting new flowers by the church sign and the patch along the side walkway to the office steps. Yard and Gardens Clean-Up: Friday, June 19-Friday, June 26. In preparation for our Centennial Celebration, we need to do some “house cleaning.” Stop by the main bulletin board to sign up to perform one of the many
tasks (washing, weeding, trimming, etc.) needed to make Grace Church sparkle. Choose your task, bring your tools, and get to work!
