Measured Drawings

Subject: Ki-gu-mi Wooden Art in shape of a Kangaroo Material system: Section and profiling Materials: lightweight Plywood Dimensions: Before assembly - two sheets After assembly: model in volume of 46 x 135 x 120 mm Manufacturing method: Two sheets of plywood are pre-cut with the outline of each parts (including spare parts) with numbers labelled Assembly method: The pre-cut parts pushed out of the plywood sheets one by one according to the numbers labelled. The parts are then assembled according to the instructions provided on the manual using the interlocking of notches of the parts. The model is completed after all designated parts are assembled. Some spare parts are provided in case any of the parts are damaged in the process of assembly.

II scanned the original plywood sheets and used it as a template to construct the digital model of the object chosen. The outline of each parts are traced over the template and extrude into solid forms. Functions like copy, paste and mirror help to reduce time to create the repetitive parts. The parts are then assembly in the digital space according to the manual.

Sketch Model

For this sketch model, I am exploring the usage of sections to construct a double curve structure. As our bodies are not flat surfaces, curving of the designed form can create a more comfortable wearing experience.

Sketch Design #1 Thickness/Protection/Sharp/Aggressive

What is your idea? [Maximum 5 key words]

How does this respond to your personal space? People are prone to spatial invasion of personal space, especially in public realm. This sketch design is about to become active and dominant in the relationship to others instead of being passive and being invaded. The sharp edges are to create a fearful appearance and impose a threat to others that came close. The thickness can provided protection beside repel the possible spatial invaders. 10


Sketch Design #2 Circular/large

What is your idea? [Maximum 5 key words]

How does this respond to your personal space? This sketch design enlarge the personal space of the user by using large circular form around the user. The enlarged personal space push the social space further away from the user. People can only interact with the user at a distance beyond the outer perimeter of the design.

Sketch Design #3 gridshell / circular

What is your idea? [Maximum 5 key words]

How does this respond to your personal space? This sketch design aim to reduce the social interactions of the user with the others in a crowd space. This is to reduce the feeling of being invaded of the user by the others.
