he memory is my visit to the jungle

of Dang. We started on 27th Dec late evening drove from Surat towards Vyara and onwards to the base village WariRupgardh. It is approximately 2.5 hours drive. Once you cross Vyara you enter the Dang Jungle region. Distance wise it is approximately 125Km from Surat. Truly speaking I was not willing to go there as I was told no electronic gadgets are allowed. How I miss my cell phone, friends, my favorite TV shows on weekends. My dad had hired a vehicle and my entire family was excited except myself. I plugged ear phones and got ready to sleep. I was unaware my life is taking 180 degree turn. I woke up with a jerk of vehicle's break and soothing sound of chirping birds. It took a minute for me to realize I'm not on bed. I stepped out of the car and my jaw fall down saying oh my god! That was view and weather's beautiful combination where I felt look may kill.

I felt like I've entered in the wallpaper of my laptop or cell phone. Our base camp consisted of small tents surrounded by nature near to the river. Like we see on discovery channel, we saw varieties of animals, birds and insects live and in their own mood, playing, roaming, eating and fighting for survival. One thing I noticed and learned that humans are the only animals attacking others without reasons. The other animals don't harm you if you let them live peacefully. Slowly the moon started taking over the kingdom of sky with the army of sparkling stars and trust me it never gave me a single chance to miss any of the gadgets. I am used to rather I felt my life like octopus stuck and dependent on so many things. We cooked our meal and it was served on leaves. It tasted thousands time better

than our famous fast-food joints. My dad arranged for a swing on a tree where I had sleep of the lifetime. In my dreams I had replaced Mogli of the jungle book jumping from branch to branch singing "jungle jungle baat chali hai pata chala hai..." Next morning when we were to return back, my eyes got almost wet. I wanted to be with those bees collecting honey, wanted to be the part of ant's army to collect the food and set the milestone of hard work for generations, wanted to fly like birds freely without tension of grades, attendance, exams or secure job. But it was all not possible. I wanted to carry all these with me so I took as many photographs as I could. I took deep breathing while returning so I can carry as much as fresh air my lungs can store for months. The same freshness I can smell in the morning. While crossing the border of the jungle, it made me thinking which side of it is real jungle?

F E S T I VA L A N D Y O U

Festive We often find our breaths taken away by the presence of color in our everyday lives, and thankfully there are three times as many opportunities to celebrate it. While the carnivals of Brazil and New Orleans explode with vibrancy, there is something simpler and yet equally joyous about Holi, the festival of color that takes place in early March of each year in India and Nepal. It is also known as Phagwa, or in West Bengal, Boshonto Utsav (meaning "Spring Festival"). India's people believe that bright colors are synonymous with life, joy and positive energy. Holi is a day to celebrate these concepts, but it also holds other symbolism as well (which seem to differ depending on what region the celebration is held in.) For some, Holi means celebrating the divine love of Lord Krishna and Radha (this is most popularly believed in Vrindavan and Mathura, where Krishna grew up.) The festival is celebrated for 16 days in the aforementioned areas (in some areas it is as short as six days.) There is a story that tells of Krishna complaining to his mother about his dark skin in contrast to Radha's fair cheek, which Krishna's mother addressed by applying color to Radha's face, transforming her from starkly contrasting to brilliantly colorful. A second story about Holi's origins involves Kamadeva, the Hindu God of Love. Kama was destroyed by Shiva, but Shiva recreated his body as a mental image for sake of Kama's wife. The concept behind this story is that Shiva gave Kama's wife back the symbol of her emotional and spiritual devotion, which outweighed the importance of his physicality (the latter signifying physical lust.) The Holi bonfire, which is traditionally held on the first night of Holi, is believed by some to pay homage to this story. Other believe in the bonfires as a recreation of the burning of the demoness Holika, for which the festival was named. This ritual is called "Holika Dahan."

24

| JAN-MAR 2014

The morning after the bonfires, people run free in the streets, shouting, dancing and smearing one another with color. At noon, everything comes to an end and people head to the river or to their bathtubs to clean their bodies and then spend the afternoon resting from the day's activity, creating an atmosphere of pure reverence and peace. This is only one of the ways that Holi is celebrated, as each region has customized the celebration in their own unique way. People sometimes give each other boxes of sweets or brightly colored flowers. While the gifts themselves are treasured, great importance is put upon the spirit in which the gift is given in, and people are often seen presenting these gifts with joyful smiles. The colors that are used to celebrate Holi were originally derived from the blossoms of Spring trees, but over the years these beautiful natural resources came to be replaced by industrial dyes. Much like the way the white face paint used by geisha was harmful to the skin, these artificial colors can contain toxic chemicals which should never be applied to human flesh. Since Holi colors are sold loosely on the roads, it is difficult to know if what one is buying is natural or artificial. Since recent studies have revealed this information, several organizations such as Development Alternatives have sprung up to try to teach children how to make their own Holi colors using natural resources. The CLEAN India campaign has also made efforts to do the same. Hopefully these resources can help to keep the festival safe as well as help it to continue to thrive, reminding people to celebrate the joy of life using instruments of color.

Are you worried about what to wear and how to look stylish on Holi? Try quirky and fun hairdos and wear a pair of shorts with a loose t-shirt, says actor Nargis Fakhri while sharing handy tips to make the festival glamorous and trendy. "I like to style my tresses with some quirky and fun hairdos. If you love your bangs or fringes then put them on the side by tying the rest of your hair in a French braid or ponytail. You can also play with gem studded clips and bands," Nargis told though the actor has been blessed with a flawless skin and long locks, she said it is important to "condition the hair well before one starts playing Holi". "It is very important to give your hair a protective coat before your hair comes into contact with harmful chemicals and color. My 20-minute deep conditioning treatment with hot coconut based hair oil is a perfect way to lock in the moisture. It gives the necessary nourishment and protects my hair from harmful synthetic chemicals that the colors bring with them. Also, I make sure I keep myself hydrated by sipping a lot of fresh juices and coconut water to combat the heat," said the actress who won't be celebrating Holi this year because of work. Talking about the appropriate wardrobe to play with colors, she said that comfort should be the priority. "I like to wear my most comfortable clothes. I wear a pair of shorts with a loose t-shirt or kurta. I mostly choose a light material like cotton, so that I don't feel stuffy in the heat," she said. After playing Holi, it is also important to unwind. Nargis unwinds by having a "hot water shower" followed by skin care. "The first thing I do is take a long hot water shower after returning home. After I have showered, I moisturize my skin with natural ingredient based moisturizer to combat dryness caused by the colors. "I prefer products that provide the goodness of natural ingredients and sunscreen benefits. A hot coconut based hair oil deep conditioning treatment for 20 minutes followed by steam helps me relax and also nourishes my hair after it has faced so many chemicals in the course of the day," said the actor who loves eating Gujjiya (a special Holi dish), lot of sweets and biryani on Holi.

Couple of COLORS Celebrating Holi may or may not be your cup of tea but when you are married, it gains a certain degree of importance. First festivals that come after your wedding not only call for celebrations, but have a special ring to them as well. The wise approach is to celebrate them in a manner that helps you bond better with your husband, your new family and circle of friends. Here, are a few tips for celebrating your first Holi after marriage: Getting Started Try to gauge the mood of your husband and the in-laws. If it seems they are not so enthusiastic about the festival, try to find the reason. If some tragic incident is the cause, you too need to curb your enthusiasm. If not, you should be the one trying to spread the cheerfulness around the household. If you live in a nuclear family set-up, make sure that you make your in-laws a part of your celebrations. This would help you bond with them, and get in their good books as well. Being Prepared Holi celebrations are bound to get a bit out of hand. This might not be the best day to spend time on looking your best. However, you cannot get away with a 'plain Jane' look in plain whites, as you are a newlywed. So, your outfit should represent

certain joyfulness, even if it means sacrificing a favorite outfit. It is best to choose something that is bright, but a bit used. If you are up for the challenge, even wearing something new is not a bad idea. Whatever might be your decision, think of it as an investment towards creating memories that will last forever. Do apply a thick coat of sunscreen before you go out to play. If you have sensitive skin, use a protective moisturizer or cream. Oil your hair with coconut oil to save them from any potential damage. It is best to tie your hair in a neat ponytail or a braid. Play the Role of a Perfect Hostess Many relatives and friends of your in-laws might turn-up on this day to wish you, and to celebrate with you. This is an opportunity to bond with these people who are now your extended family as well. Play the perfect hostess, and ensure that you greet them warmly and never let their glasses or plates be empty. There are plenty of Bollywood songs that are a must-play at Holi parties. Be it Rang barsey, Balam pichkari, Bhangra mixes or other Holi favorites, just make sure that the house DJ knows which tracks to play to get the mood right. Based on everyone's personal comfort level, get them involved in the celebrations and the masti! If someone is not comfortable with colors or with dancing, make sure you respect their preferences. Use Holi to Make it up to Friends It might have been possible that some of your dear friends were not able to attend the wedding due to some reasons. You can invite your friends to the Holi party. Just ensure that the food and overall preparations are good enough to make your friends feel like pampered baraatis. But first make sure that this is fine with your husband and your in-laws. Don’t Hesitate to Party it Up! The first Holi celebrations are likely to focus the attention on you. However, don’t let this deter you from having a good time. For instance, don’t hesitate to dance or get a little flirty with your husband. A Holi celebration is bound to have music and dancing. Ensure that you have your husband to accompany you as you sway to the music. This is probably what your in-laws and relatives in attendance want to see the two of you gelling well.

Go Easy on the Booze Holi parties usually include getting a bit tipsy. However, being your first Holi celebration, you might want to be a bit careful. There is every chance of friends suggesting you to taste their version of bhaang. Go ahead and indulge yourself, but not to the extent of getting passing out! Also, make sure that your husband is always involved or knows about whatever you do. Spice-up the Post-Holi Celebrations with Your Husband So, the Holi celebrations have ended and everybody is headed to their homes. Rather than simply ambling to your room and falling asleep, try to surprise your husband. Yes, the idea might already have been in his head, but you initiating it could be a major turn-on for him. What are we talking about? Send him an SMS saying that you have been splashed with rigid Holi colors and need his help to wash them off. This is probably the best way to end the day’s celebrations, isn't it?

B E AU T I F U L YO U When it comes to makeup"Less is More". That's my idea for all times. I would advise all the beauties to stick to it, if not forever, for

-

- Alisha Mehta Makeover artist

Beauty starts inside. So my first step to look pretty is nurturing oneself with good amount of water to keep the skin hydrated and supple.

For Lips use a lip stain rather than heavy glosses or lipsticks as it has better stay and looks most natural.

28

Commencing with the face, use powder based compacts in place of liquid foundations. You may also opt for light weight BB creams.

Use Blush. A tint of powder blush in pinks and peaches on the cheeks completes the look.

| JAN-MAR 2014

For the Eyes, I recommend an eye shadow primer as it helps keep your color vibrant and also keep it form gliding and creasing. Pressed eye shadows work best. Shades of brown and pink are just right for easy maintenance. Use waterproof mascara and liners. Avoid kohl.

Q: Who encouraged you to pursue modeling? Did you have any links who helped you promote your talent? A: Hmm! I got my first break when I was about to have my first Board Examination, uuhmm... the first show of modeling was a ramp-walk. I did it with Friends Entertainment Group. They gave me the platform to enter this line. And now you can see where I am standing. After that I have been lined up with lots of work and assignment in this field. Right now I feel like a top model, full of confidence and firm goal. Q: World of glamour or your education? A: Per my view, glamor line and education are two different fieldsEducation makes you a human being and Glamor world helps you reach at a place where every human being knows you. Well for me glamour line is a place where I can make and am making my future and will let me earn to live; while I'm here in front of you and talking to you because of proper education, ha ha ha! So, in the end, for me both are very important. Q: Who is your idol? A: Salman Khan. He is one of the best person and the best actor in my eyes.

I'm a very responsible person and dedicated to my work to achieve the goal. Moreover I want to be a proud daughter of my parents who will make them so proud one day someone at random will point out my parents with my name as "TARA's PARENTS". And that day I will achieve the real goal of my life. Q: What interests you the most in your idle time? A: I dance, act and love to sing. Cooking and reading also add up to the list. HEIGHT - 5’9” | WEIGHT - 45 kg Hi everyone! This is Shrikant Sinha. I am from New Delhi and want to be a professional model and a person with defined path and goal. The reason why I chose this industry is because I believe it is one of the grooming sectors where I can enhance my skills. Showbiz is the field where through your talent, you can full fill your dreams. I entered in this line through one of my friend who is a fashion photographer. He guided me through the path and provided me with links to show up my talent. I also believe that one should not forget or compromise his or her education just to be a part of the glamor world. Both shows should run in parallel. Both Lines are mandatory as per the time. Initial every one first pursue education then moves towards career path. And I have followed the same. I am a responsible person in the society. My goal of life is to be at good level in media field through modelling career. Thanks to the Lá Fiesta team who is providing me whole hearted support to grow in this sector and help me reach my goal. It’s one such grooming platform which helps strugglers to move ahead. My areas of interest are cricket & travelling. Katrina Kaif is my favorite actress.

Hi everyone! The meaning of my name is brightness and one who gives shine, by the dictionary; but my parents kept my name ‘Arjun’ having inspired by the name ‘Arjuna’ in Mahabharata. My passion for modeling came from the fact that it is such a thing that has been tantalizing me since the beginning. I always wanted to do something out of the box and probably modelling is that thing. My goals for life have always been changing since then. I had at times followed everything that fantasized. But then it was one of my friends who has been my inspiration and gave me the strength to show my talent. Now, I feel that modelling is a well thought of venture. And yes, I’m on the track to be a responsible person. I am not running too fast but steady. I find Shradha Kapoor as my favorite actress because she has that charm which no one has. Undoubtedly she is stunning! HEIGHT - 6’ | WEIGHT – 80 kg

In a tête-à-tête conversation with German based model Julia who has numerous ramps, fashion shows and print shoots on her career track and bagging many commercials and movie projects, she tells how Lá Fiesta is a great platform when it comes to promoting models to the exciting world of fashion in India. I started modelling in Germany when I was in university. It was when I moved to Dubai I started my career as a full timer. Our agency sent us to fashion shows to countries such as Oman, Kuwait, Dubai (of course), Pakistan and Malaysia. It was a great experience as I love travelling.

I feel it just happened to me! My name is M. Raja and I am an actor from southCoimbatore, simple. But that one day during my Facebook chats, the Lá Fiesta team instilled the confidence in me to aspire to become a model. I got to know the team through their online portal. It was marvelous. I was very surprised to see the website had so much to showcase and how they promote models and artists. It was a nice experience. Such a big organization! Frankly speaking, I have tried many model agencies before. I'm new to the modelling industry! But this team has been the most efficient. They have been supportive in freely providing me with great advice to how I can kick-start my modelling career. They are very prompt in replying to messages and are very helpful. I highly recommend the agency for their professionalism and diversity of their models. I’m glad the team is so helpful, as I hope to be a part of them for future projects. I am ambitious. The skills and expertise I have and the kind of support I am getting from the team, I am 100% confident that my next stop is going to be Delhi.
