Introduction
from Modern Ruins
This document is done collaboratively by Julia Beack and Chelseigh Buchanan and is the continuation of the research document Ancient Athens.
Moving from the analysis of how the city has formed into what we see today, we can focus on an area of the city that we believe to be a major unresolved issue - the abandoned buildings.

According to the Athens Resilience Strategy Booklet set out by the city of Athens ‘‘there are approximately 1800 abandoned buildings within the municipality...” (Resilient Cities Network, 2017). We are interested in finding why these buildings are abandoned, where these buildings are and if there are any emerging patterns.

By investigating the location of abandoned building the hope is that we will be able to identify problem areas and create individual design solutions to resolve the issue.
