Kingfishers Update Saturday Art Attack The children in Kingfishers had a fantastic time with Mrs Parsley for Super Saturday Art Attack. They were challenged to play a game of consequences with an alien theme. The children produced some brilliant miniature aliens before moving on to a life-sized version.

Reception trip to Chapel Reception went to College chapel this week to meet Father Adam to see if they could find clues to celebrations that might happen there. They were mesmerised by everything they saw from the huge pipes for the organ, the tree of life and the eagle to carry the Bible. They all agreed it was a beautiful building.

Open Afternoon Fun We were thrilled to welcome our parents and Mr O’Sullivan to Kingfishers this week. They were able to see all of the exciting projects we have been working on and understand more about our lives at school.

Lower School News Egypt Day Year 3 were fully engrossed learning more about Ancient Egypt on Tuesday. Coming in dressed as everything from cats to pharaohs, Howard Carter to Tutankhamun everyone joined in the fun.

Keep up to date Make sure you’re following Lower School on twitter (@CheltPrepLower) to keep up to date with all of the latest activities we’re getting up to!

Activities were designed to build a number of different learning skills: Problem solving. How to build a Lego pyramid was hugely popular with some really amazing structures and lots of secret passages. Researching hieroglyphics. What they meant, how to write your own name, how papyrus was made. All Year 3 now have their own personalised bookmark as a memento of the day. Team work. To design and paint a sarcophagus enabled all groups to understand the need for listening, empathy, co-operation and compromise. What amazing results! Look out for our display decorating the Middle Room next time you visit. Year 4 can’t wait for their turn next week when they visit India to celebrate their learning this term.

Salad Days The Year 6 classes are just finishing their Salad Servers and here is a photo of some of them. They have been designing, cutting them out on a scroll saw, sanding them down, laminating them in the bag press, using the fire writer for patterns and details, before oiling them, ready for the salad bowl at home.

Children in Need Thank you to everyone who helped us raise ÂŁ420.08 for Children in Need last Friday. On top of a mufti day there was also a cake sale organised by Edward D in Lower School which raised over ÂŁ70. Well done Edward!

Boarding House News The Boarders enjoyed the Taskmaster Challenge on Sunday afternoon. They competed in their Boarding House families, taking part in six different Tasks throughout the afternoon. There was some great team spirit and some brilliant thinking outside of the box to succeed. The teams were led expertly by their Year 8 leaders. It was a great afternoon of fun and we look forward to seeing the video footage and the final live task at the Christmas Feast.

And finally... Dear Parents As I write this box after cardboard box is filling the office. Unsure as to exactly what is happening (perhaps A Day of the Triffids-esque invasion!) I venture a peak into one of the ‘assailants’! We are indeed about to be attacked…. by Christmas decorations! The final Exeat of the Michaelmas term usually brings with it the end of assessment week and a gentle, if unstoppable, move towards the festive season. There is still a huge amount of academic and co-curricular work to do of course, but the backdrop will become increasingly decorative. Christmas week itself will have a number of new and exciting twists to sit alongside some very old favourites and watch out for news of the ‘must have’ stocking filler of 2018. The final three weeks of term will be immensely rewarding, educational and fun, but they will also be tiring so I would urge you all to have a restful and relaxing Exeat, so everyone can throw themselves full throttle into the festivities ahead.
