Kingfishers Update Measuring Fun This week the Nursery children have been measuring things around the school. How long is it? Is it taller than ...? How many centimetres?

Reception Wellbeing Reception have been enjoying their Wellbeing sessions, especially the story massages that they have given each other.

Kingfishers Update

African Drums Year 1 are enjoying learning how to play the African Drums. They are using their listening skills to copy rhythms and beats and it sounds magical!

Year 2 Comprehension Skills The children worked collaboratively to write full sentence answers in comprehension this week. They highlighted the important words in the passage and question to help come up with a great answer. They made improvements too by editing.

Lower School News Ancient Greek Day Last week Year 3 enjoyed their Ancient Greek Day. Although it was a rather cold and frosty January morning, we braved the chill to dress up in chitons and himations. Most of us had to wear boots or shoes with our dress though as sandals were a step too far for our cold toes! Zeus and Poseidon were also there to keep us all in check. We spent the morning learning about Greek mythical creatures and heroes and created our own mythical stories with our own characters. We painted story stones and used them to retell our myths to an audience. At lunch we enjoyed a Greek banquet of moussaka, tzatziki, pitta bread, Greek salad and Greek yogurt with honey and we definitely needed reclining chairs after all of that! In the afternoon Medusa came to life in the form of snake masks and we also decorated some traditional terracotta pots. It was a fantastic day and Year 3 fully immersed themselves into the role of Ancient Greek citizens.

Boys’ Team of the Week - 5th VII An 11-1 win against Dean Close means there can be no-one else in the running this week. Simply outstanding fellas!

IAPS Swimming On Tuesday the school hosted the Midlands’ Qualifier for IAPS Swimming. We entered the largest team we have ever sent to an event and put in a huge number of superb performances. We won’t find out for a few weeks who has swum fast enough to qualify for the national finals in the London Aquatic Centre… but will keep our fingers crossed !

Girls’ Team of the Week - U12B This group of girls demonstrated some super court play at the St Hugh’s invitational tournament on Wednesday. They finished as runners up overall.

In Other News Brilliant Ball Girls Our U12A Netball team, who won the Severnside tournament last week, had the opportunity over the exeat weekend to be ‘ball girls’ for the Severn Stars Netball team. Our Director of Netball (Miss Sam Cook) is also coach to the Severn Stars Netball team.

Rome House and Haggis Hunting... In recognition of Burns’ Day, Rome House had a light-hearted introduction to The Haggis. We found out about the habitat of these Scottish creatures, about them having two legs shorter than the other two (to enable them to round hills without falling over!) and that a group is known collectively as a ‘Gaggle of Haggii’. We were introduced to The Great Selkirk Haggis Hunt and of course finished with sampling this delicacy served on oatcakes. Unfortunately there was no vegan option on this delicacy!

Important Notice Drop-off Times - Please do not drop off children before the allotted meet time as they will be unsupervised until the member of staff comes on duty. With such a busy car park, we must ensure the children are safe and therefore ask that if a family arrives early, parents remain with their children until the meet time. Pick-up Times - Please ensure your child is picked up at the appropriate time and is signed out.

Uniform Pupils to arrive in their games kit, wearing their full tracksuit and have their games bag with them. After sport all children must sign out with their team coach.

Absences A reminder to parents that if your child needs to miss a Saturday event, permission must be obtained from Mr O’Sullivan with a week’s notice. If your child is unwell and therefore unavailable for a Saturday event, please email Mr Simpson or Mrs McNulty the night before, or telephone the school on 01242 522 697 between 08:15 and 08:45.

Siblings If you have a child in Year 7 or 8 and others in Years 3, 4, 5 or 6 there will be an option to drop your younger child at “Sibling Club”. Children should be dropped at The Prep School Reception at 08.15. They will be registered by the Reception staff and directed to the club where they will be supervised until their meet time. There is no post-match childcare available for siblings.

Cheltenham College Open House Event Cheltenham College is hosting an Open Houses event on Saturday 7 March during the Prep exeat. And finally... Dear Parents The school is filling with snow globes, giant Olafs and snow covered fir trees as we prepare for our ‘Frozen’ Open Morning. I’ve been practising my rendition of the classic song ‘Let it Go’ for months now, but sadly, I fear I won’t quite make the grade! Open Mornings are important events for us and the children always showcase the school brilliantly. They really enjoy talking about their school and showing Prospective Parents and children what it is like to be a pupil here. I’m sure it will be a tremendous success. Speaking of successes, we found out yesterday that Morgan has won the ‘Farmvention’ competition for his age range. The prize includes being presented with his award at the Houses of Parliament, a farm trip for his year group, and £600 of robotics equipment for the school! With over 2,000 entries he has done amazingly well, and we are both very proud and very grateful!

The school has recently formed an Eco-Committee with the goal of improving our overall eco‑profile. There will be lots more to come from this Committee but one immediate plea is for all our drivers to turn off their engines whilst waiting for their children.
