Cornwalls’ All-Inclusive Cancun Christmas

Page 1

MANAGING DIRECTOR’S NOTES RANDAL HUBER Ola. It’s a Christmas blast from the past as we welcome the Cornwalls back to center stage. This completely homegrown production reunites that crazy, boisterous, stuck in the 80’s family for an all-inclusive twist on their Christmas traditions. This show caps off our stellar 25th Anniversary Season and we thank you for your support by attending today’s performance.

Season tickets make a perfect Christmas gift and guarantee a full year of great theatrical escapes.

Strike up the mariachi band! We’ve launched our annual patron giving campaign. The Chemainus Theatre is a not for profit charity and we rely on the generous support of donors and sponsors to help cover the cost of programming. Our 2018 Member Program is an opportunity to connect deeper with the world of Chemainus Theatre. Please see the facing page for more details and, to make it oh so easy, we’ve even enclosed a donor envelope with your program. Season tickets are now on sale for our 2018 season, and promises a diverse mix of comedies, dramas and musicals. These make a perfect Christmas gift and guarantee a full year of great theatrical escapes. They also ensure that you get the best seats at the best possible price and won’t miss out on the next blockbuster. During the winter-mission, please pop by our Cornwall’s All-Inclusive Solid Gold Silent Auction in the upper lobby featuring a selection of excursions, adventures and artwork all begging for a spot in your Christmas stocking. The auction is also available online at www.chemainustheatre.ca and closes on December 19th, 2017. Now it’s time to power down those cell phones and if you’re at your best (and make a donation) we’ll upgrade you to that coveted all-inclusive solid gold bracelet. Pina Colada, anyone?

ARTIST DIRECTOR’S NOTES MARK DUMEZ Epiphanies can be hard to come by. In my experience, they take a special moment in time, a certain unique set of circumstances and, usually, some form of humbling process to inspire a new perspective. The process of revealing these moments of sudden insight can often be fraught with other less desirable events including a kind of stripping away so a new layer of understanding can emerge.

“… in the cracks of each Cornwall there is hope and there is love.”

A perfect time and place for this to occur, where we are out of our element and available to newness, is on holiday. Going on vacation, or leaving something previously occupied, while often relaxing and enjoyable, also has the opportunity to undo. Holidays can melt away the work-a-day world while we soak in the sun of another location and, if circumstances allow, reveal new insight. Now, I’m not saying that the Cornwall experience, with all its eccentricities, 80’s stylings and big hair will be life changing. We’ve had a lot of fun. These are flawed folks with, at times, very self-serving agendas. We’ve taken a lot of liberties - most based on real-life experiences and then…. well….changed for effect. But in the cracks of each Cornwall and in the kindnesses of their hosts – there is hope and there is love. And in those same cracks and kindnesses, at this special time of year, is the possibility of a change for the good, of seeing one another with fresh eyes in new light and of revealing hidden depths and insights that may have been just waiting to peel away. Like a good sunburn…Enjoy the show.
