Review of Stereochemistry

Review of Stereochemistry

Stereoisomers are compounds made up of the same atoms connected by the same sequence of bonds, but having different three dimensional structures. Major kinds of stereoisomers are : Enantiomers (mirror image stereoisomers) Other Stereoisomers (cis-trans isomers, diastereomers etc.)

Enantiomers and Chirality A chiral object is not superimposible on its mirror image. Examples include hands, screws, propellers, and keys
