We want to redesign and rethink the process of bathing baby in order to make parents and babies feel more comfortable and ease. Fitting to every growing period of babies, BathPouch can be adjusted in two different -
sizes: 0-6 months and 6 months-3 years old. Inspired in a wombed shape emulating the sensation(warm, soft and safe) that makes babies feel like back to the familiar atmosphere. Moreover, Bathpouch is designed considering human factors so that it will not be harmful to parents’ knees, backs, arms, etc. Furthermore, when folded, “BathPouch” can easily fit into a flat package, which is convenient for parents to take home or store without occupying too much space.

CURRENT Baby Bathing Process
It is difficult for me to change the temperature of the water
I need to hold my baby by another hand, and my arm is tired.

INCORRECT Baby Bathing Process
Research for Baby Bathing Having a newborn baby is one of the happiest things for every family. Yet, some parents are novices at taking care of them. To buy babies necessities, they have to consider some problems such as the space, money, growth rate, safety and so on. It often makes them hesitant and confused. After observing the process of taking bath for newborn babies, we discovered that most of bathrooms in Taiwan are small. In tradition, a mother will sit on a low stool and wash the baby in a huge red basin laid on the ground. It is not ergonomic. Both the baby and parents feel uncomfortable. As a result, we want to design a new product suitable for modern Taiwanese families. It will be durable, ergonomic, safe, and well-stored. Our goal is to reduce parents’ burdens and they can interact with their babies at ease when taking a bath for them.
Research for Baby Bathing The process underwent three phases. First, we went to the hospital to learn the baby bathing process and evalute their worksing space by body measurement. Meanwhile, we visited some houses to see the traditional way of baby bathing at home. The second phase, we evaluate the rules in Taiwan interior desgin to understand the limit in designing a bathroom. The orange area would be the possible working space for parents to bath their babies, which deciding our sizes for the bathpouch. The third phase, we captured our motion while baby bathing by photography to countor the shape what the bathpouch should be (see the pictures below). Additionally, designing not only the pouch, but also the stool, we used AutoCad to map the posture with the stool’s outline, to decide the curves, and height.

Research for Baby Bathing To overcome the oversize problem, limited space, and once-used issues, we intend to make bathpouch a changable, foldable bathpouch. Reconsidering the growth of babies, the pouch could be suit for new born to 3 year-old baby. The right picture shows our aim goal to compare with other products.

Shape Design 3D Modeling for quick testing the shape, colors and mechnical structure.
Mechanical Design Taking baby carriage and folding chair as our references, we uses the 3D software to create the struction. Each connection, parts are all designed by ourselves. At the final, we sent our files to the CNC for final models.
Neoprene Templet For bathpouch, we tried to find stable, strong, waterproof materials to be our pouch. Looking for the materials, we pour water in different kinds of cloth and test its flexibility. We found that the neoprene is a perfect choice. Finally, we make the models for the shape and make the templet on our own. What’s more, we make the towel and pakage as a series for the bathpouch.
