Light Study 1: Luminosity Linguistic Definition Luminosity means the intrinsic brightness of a celestial object (as distinct from its apparent brightness diminished by distance). In architecture It is the light, the sunshine, which people can see.
Page 7
Philosophical Definition Light in architecture is not only the light itself, it can make the architecture stronger and creat a suitable atmosphere. Light closes the gap between architecture and our perception. We sense forms and materials with our eyes not directly but through the reflected light. During the day, the volume reflects the light and the overall shadow pattern of the sun dominates, with no sub-textures interfering in the smooth surfaces.

Deconstructive Lines of Light
Enhancing Fluidity With Daylight and Lighting
Decisive non-parallel lines mark the explosive energy of her first building: The Vitra Fire Station (Weil am Rhein, 1993)—a lucid expression of tensions with in-situ concrete walls. Light lines in the ceiling, or between wall and ground or between the wall and the flying roof reinforce the linear architecture with sharp edges. In the interior, the light gaps between the wall and ceiling deconstruct conventional building structures as well. Even the design of the distinctive sun blinds intensify the linear pattern language. The precise light lines emerge as built manifestations of her suprematist paintings. Although the edges of the interior luminaires echo the sharp concrete lines, the soft, diffuse inside and outside illumination in a way counteracts the energy of the building's forms.
She developed a characteristic feeling of unison between fluid forms, daylight, and lighting at the Italian Museum. Linear louvers follow the conceptual grid and filter the sunlight—ensuring a soft light for the structural curves. Electrical lighting is concealed wherever possible. The black stairways create an intense contrast with their white luminous underside. Diffuse light flows through the building and builds a calm counterpoint to the dynamic lines and the black and white material contrast.

In this design, the light could go through the whole pavilion. The roof on the top is made by the glass witch the sunshine could shine into the underground corridor. In the night time, the Illumination inside the pavilion could also affect the surrounding buildings. The whole building wil be like a huge Luminescent substances.
Possibilities
Page 10
This pavilion uses the reflection of light to make the inside of the building light up. On the both wall at the end of the stairs, there are huge mirror like material to make the light reflect, also on the east part of the underground floor, the material can also reflect the light, no matter morning or afternoon, the sunshine can go through the whole underground building. In the night the light inside the building can also be reflected to the outside.
Page 11
Possibilities
In the middle of the underground building is a pool on the same plane as the ground. Water is carried by glass at the bottom of the hemisphere. The water surface can refract light. Because the angles of points on each sphere are different, when light is refracted from the water of the sphere, parallel light can be scattered around and shadowed by water. This makes the interior light mottled and interesting.

I have seen the glass house that other’s designed, they use glass wall to brighten the whole building by allowing more light to enter the interior of the building. In the Louvre Pyramid, the designer uses a pyramid-shaped structure made of pure glass to connect the ground and underground of the Louvre so that people can clearly see the buildings on the ground and the light from the ground can be projected into the ground. At night, the interior of the pyramid also shines around.

Glass roof can make the interior of the room bright, but also can shelter the wind and rain. The pool becomes sparkling under the light. The combination of water surface and light can make the building lively.

Light Study 2: Reflection Linguistic Definition Reflection can be a mirror of psychological research. When people think about something, their emotions and actions show what they are thinking about. When someone laughs or cries, others react. Psychologically, there are two parts, one is the instinctive response to stimulation, the other is the acquired reflex after stimulation. This may be a reflection of human thinking. In the design, reflection can be "secondhand", just like in the performance of the building, the designer creates a shape and the customer expresses it after appreciating the shapes.
Philosophical Definition Reflection is the process by which light is reflected back from the surface without passing through it. Light is reflected from the mirror. It is the change of the wavefront direction at the interface between two different media, which makes the wavefront return to the medium of its origin.

Meaning Accompanied by the belief that light and brilliance could help in creating iconic architecture and a better human world, glass and metal have been innovatively transformed to create crystalline images. As a result, the locus of meaning in architecture has shifted from the internal space-form towards the external surface.
Undoubtedly the glass façade at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg by Herzog & de Meuron refers to the visionary glass culture of Scheerbart, and indirectly to the golden shimmering skin of Berlin’s Philharmonic by Hans Scharoun as well. Inwardly and outwardly curved glass elements distort the perception of the city, water and sky. They build a fresh contrast to the uniform plane glass curtains of the International Style. The environment is not appreciated as a clear mirrored picture, but instead goes through a process of modification and reproduc

Most part of the pavilion is underground, the only thing which could be seen on the ground are two pools. which could bring fantastic refraction of light through water and ripple of water . which will make the light inside beautiful. Alson at the night time, the light inside the pavilion will be refracted to the out side.

Linguistic Definition Opacity refers to facts or phenomena that are hard to see through, facts that are not transparent. It is the nature or state of the body that makes it ambiguous from the influence of light. It is a barrier to direct visible light.
Philosophical Definition If it's true, then opacity means something is misunderstood. Light becomes an intention, a real way forward, as opaque as fog, and fog becomes an obstacle when people walk along a road. It is not only an obstacle to light itself, but also to the receiver. There is an object that scatters a seed of light in many different ways, because there is so much light that they are omitted. During transmission, the axle neck of light occurs in the opaque area

Meaning Whiteness is a central aspect of how Nordic architects responded to their local environment, as Plummer reveals in his studies from the 15th century up to contemporary buildings like Steven Holl's Herning Museum of Contemporary Art. Without doubt, white surfaces offer a high reflectance in order to maximize interior brightness for dark winter periods, but for Plummer the affection for whiteness is also linked to the beauty of snow-covered landscape.
The Scandinavian countries have developed great buildings that resonate with both the scarce light in winter and the long summer days. Henry Plummer, Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has very carefully studied the various daylight phenomena in the Nordic countries, with extensive photo journeys and brilliant writing that combines an analytical perspective with a poetic touch. His view of daylight looks beyond the practical advantages of using reflective white spaces to facilitate bright rooms; the passionate photographer is much more interested in the light effects that play with the local beauty of nature and touch the human soul.

Light Study 4: Filtration Linguistic Definition Filtering is the quality of a material that does not allow light to pass through. It is opaque and difficult to understand or explain. It is a process of filtering liquid or light.
Philosophical Definition As light progresses, it seems to become a metaphor, a truth being sought. The filtered results show that some things have been purified and cleaned. Filtering is an answer to a question. Light first appears, then people ask questions from existing "answers", and then more and more people will have different opinions. When others gathered these comments, the light had been filtered out. Filtering is not entirely true, but after a process, it becomes meaningful.

Meaning Studying Le Corbusier's sacred buildings for more than four decades has led to a deep fascination for H e n r y P l u m m e r re ga rd i n g t h e transformative power of light: “Instead of serving as a tool of religious persuasion, as it generally has in the past, light has become a quiet force to visually resist and elude, erode and outshine, the Church´s mandate. Light eats away and weakens institutional discipline, while exerting its own dazzling powers to draw attention out to the sky and its commonplace marvels – in effect using light to consecrate the natural universe”.
