As a patron of Chequer Mead Community Art Centre we are sure that you would be more than happy to support its continuing success. As a Friend of Chequer Mead you will greatly benefit the Art Centre. Your annual membership fee is used by the small Friends committee to provide items to enhance the centre for all its users and hirers. In recent years we have been able to provide full height mirrors for the meeting and rehearsal rooms, child booster seats, 80 new chairs, stage condenser microphones, clip frames in The Pavilion, the planters by the front entrance, portable modesty screens. We continue to raise funds and meet the centre manager regularly to find out what is needed. In return, we offer Friends concessions on some shows, we hold quarterly ticket draws so you could win a pair of free tickets to a show. We hold events just for Friends and Volunteers for example, we recently held a wine tasting evening, quiz night and a talk and we email regular newsletters to keep you informed of upcoming events and shows. If you are interested in helping further, then why not join the Committee? We raise funds in addition to the membership fees by holding regular raffles, table top sales and run a 1001 Club. If you enjoy fund raising and have some good ideas we would love you to join us. THE BLUES BAND WEDNESDAY 26TH FEBRUARY AT 7:30PM

Paul Jones • Dave Kelly • Rob Townsend • Gary Fletcher • Tom McGuinness If music matures like fine wine, 1979 was a vintage year. That’s when Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness, from the hugely successful Manfred Mann, returned to their first love, the Blues. They imagined their ‘back to the roots’ project, The Blues Band, would simply earn some beer money. How wrong they were - the public were ready and waiting. Talent goes to talent. Into the ranks came slide guitar ace and superb vocalist Dave Kelly, legendary ex-John Mayall drummer Hughie Flint, (replaced in 1982 by the renowned Rob Townsend of Family), with solid bass provided by Gary Fletcher. The Blues Band’s new studio album, Few Short Lines amply demonstrates the veneration of their peers. Bob Dylan’s keyboard accomplice Al Kooper plays on six tracks, Bruce Springsteen’s comrade Southside Johnny provides harmonica and vocals, all lavishly topped off by Paul Jones raunchily duetting with Linda Lewis, plus Dave Kelly’s pairing with Scotland’s soul queen, Maggie Bell. Tickets: £25.00
