I
sincerely think that this issue of Hanover Lifestyle should be required reading for every fourth-grader in the county’s public school system. No, not because of our attractive Happy Hour Guide (although it is handy), but because of Thomas Gresham’s informative piece on Hanover’s rich history. Often, we tend to take the history of the county for granted. Thomas’ well-written piece may give you cause for reflection on all that this area has to offer, what with Scotchtown, Hanover Tavern and Polegreen Church, as well as the Civil War battlefields. However, don’t get the idea that we only dwell on the past in this issue. There’s always something going on in Hanover as evidenced by our Calendar of Events. It’s time for the Tomato Festival again. I’d say that this is the county’s premier annual event, but there are so many great events going on throughout the county. The fun just keeps on a’coming. I’m kinda partial to the ice cream race in August. I wonder if they give senior citizen discounts. The Bluemont Concert Series promises to provide a wide range of entertainment. Every Sunday in August, there’ll be a concert at Randolph Macon, starting with one of my favorite groups, The Taters, on Aug. 7. For more details, just check out our calendar. I think you’re also going to like our special feature on dining venues that offer entertainment throughout Hanover. So, if you’re looking for something to do this summer, keep this issue of Hanover Lifestyle handy. Perhaps I’m a bit partial, but one of my favorite features is our TasteBudz column. I’m always on the lookout for a new place to eat, or an old place that is doing something new. You can keep up to date with the local dining scene, not just through the pages of the magazine, but also through our weekly TasteBudz columns on RichmondNavigator.com. Speaking of the website, one of our big projects is to expand our online presence. Already, Richmond Navigator has an excellent events calendar, a Happy Hour guide and the digital versions of Hanover Lifestyle and our other three lifestyle magazines. It’s our desire to bring you more content that’s exclusive to the website. That means our need for interesting stories about the people, the places and the events throughout the county is greater than ever. We’d love to hear from you. If you have a story to share or just an idea, please drop me a line at Steve@RichmondNavigator.com. But enough idle chatter. We have a magazine to read.

A HARD NIGH T ’S SLEEP
“So do you think you grind your teeth?” “No, doc, not me.” “Well, someone’s been taking some off the top when you’re not looking.”
Every day, I see at least one patient who has signs and symptoms of grinding and/or clenching their teeth. Lots of us do it, including me. I frequently catch myself clenching my teeth when focusing intently on a task. It’s typically a subconscious habit that, if you’re lucky enough not to suffer from any jaw pain, will go unnoticed until someone points it out or things start breaking. You may not have realized this, but teeth are not meant to touch. It sounds odd, but think about it. They don’t touch while you speak, smile or rest. Even when you chew, your teeth only have to be close enough to mash food, not necessarily touch. The average person who does not grind will have their teeth touch only about four minutes in an average day. The person who grinds while asleep can have their teeth together for hours at a time. Our bodies aren’t designed to handle that kind of force over extended periods. Most people I treat will be on one of two teams: Team Grinders and Team Clenchers. Team Grinders are those of us who habitually and involuntarily gnash or rub our teeth together, usually during sleep. These folks have flattened molars, short-looking front teeth and chipped or ragged-looking edges. Surprisingly, I don’t often find these people suffering from headaches or muscle pain, but they certainly do a good job at breaking teeth and dental restorations. Don’t let me mislead you, though – more severe symptoms can surely develop over time.
by
Then there’s Team Clenchers, those of us who squeeze our teeth together with tremendous force for minutes to hours at a time. Sometimes we’ll clench during the day but often and with much more intensity at night. These are the folks who will wake up in the morning with headaches and muscle fatigue and will at times need treatment for acute muscle or jaw pain. Both situations can result from and be exacerbated by stress, anger, tension, fear, frustration, a misaligned bite, poor-fitting dental restorations, etc. The most severe symptoms will arise during periods of highest stress, such as a divorce, job change and loss of a loved one. Fortunately, if the damage isn’t too bad, these conditions can be managed with stress reduction techniques, bite adjustments, orthodontics and/or a simple night guard. Untreated, it can lead to tens of thousands of dollars in dental treatment to rebuild and restore what you once had. If you think you may be clenching or grinding your teeth, don’t fret – we’re here to help.

Virginia Urology
Helping Patients Regain Their Self-Confidence
Is it a Normal Sign of Aging or Low Testosterone? As we get older, we all experience various signs and symptoms of aging. However, for many men, some symptoms have nothing to do with aging, but rather an actual medical condition. These can be an indication that the body is having an issue with low testosterone (low T). For men, testosterone is an important hormone that helps regulate specific chemical reactions in the body. Low T can present itself with symptoms such as decreased energy, weight gain, reduced sexual desire, decreased spontaneous erections, lack of energy or a depressed mood. “It is estimated only 10 percent of all men with low T are treated,” says Joseph Ellen III M.D., with Virginia Urology. He says that the signs and symptoms of low T begin to appear around age 40. But how does a man know if he has low T or if his symptoms are a sign of normal aging? Making the distinction can be quite difficult. “People overlap so many other symptoms with aging that they don’t even realize they have low T,” says Dr. Anthony Sliwinski, M.D., who is also with Virginia Urology. Many of the symptoms are vague. Dr. Sliwinski recommends if a man thinks he is having symptoms of low T, then he should consult a urologist that specializes in andrology or male sexual health. “We have a great opportunity to positively impact the quality of life for our patients,” says Dr. Sliwinski After a thorough history and physical exam, the appropriate treatment plan can be put into place. “First we look for simple lifestyle adjustments,” says Dr. Sliwinski. “The most common causes for some of these symptoms include chronic stress, excessive alcohol use, opiate use and prior history of exposure such as mumps or orchitis.” We carefully monitor our patients and if there is no improvement, then we evaluate the need to replace the testosterone,” says Dr. Sliwinski. Testosterone therapy is, indeed, the best treatment for low T and issues related to low T. “The treatment for low T is not inherently difficult, but it does need to be closely monitored by someone who is highly trained in this area as there can be serious side effects,” explains Dr. Ellen. With routine visits, we can easily monitor and adjust the treatment. Once the treatment is regulated properly, the patient can feel better within a matter of days. Virginia Urology offers multiple forms of treatment including topical gels, injections and testosterone patches (much like a band aid). The type of treatment and the dosage is based on the individual patient’s lab values, and most insurance plans will cover treatments for low testosterone. For many men, choosing to seek care for low-T can be an issue of pride. Nevertheless, typically, one will observe a positive impact, both physically and mentally, as a result of appropriate testosterone therapy. For more information and to determine which of Virginia Urology’s seven area locations is most convenient to you visit Uro.com or call 804-330-9105. ADVERTISER-SUPPORTED CONTENT

Hanover RICH IN HISTORY AND HISTORICAL SITES
E
ven in a region steeped in history, Hanover County can seem particularly fertile ground for those eager to engage with the past. Art Taylor, a member of the Hanover County Historical Society moved to Hanover in the 1970s though his family’s roots in the county stretch deeper than that. He said Hanover is an area unusual for its variety of historical sites and for the opportunities available for history lovers to learn more about some of the country’s well-known stories while discovering less widely told tales. “If there is a county or location anywhere in the United States with this much history or this much diversity of history, then I’d like to see what it is,” Taylor said. Founded in 1720, Hanover County received its name in honor of Great Britain’s then-ruler, King George I, who was the first British monarch from the House of Hanover. The borders of Hanover were cut from New Kent County, which dated to 1654. Two of the country’s most critical and formative eras – the Revolutionary War and the Civil War – left their indelible marks on Hanover, and Hanover left its mark on them. Hanover’s most famous natives include Patrick Henry, who helped inspire the American Revolution, and Henry Clay, who helped stave off secession and civil war for a time by brokering nuanced legislation in his role as a Kentucky congressman earning the nickname “The Great Compromiser.” The Historic Hanover Courthouse, which dates to the 1735, served for years as the county’s judicial and political heart. Henry’s famous concluding argument at the courthouse in the 1763 Parsons’ Cause case, which was a challenge to royal authority, made Hanover a nexus of the Revolutionary movement, according to the Hanover County Historical Society. The courthouse offers prime opportunities for visitors to engage with history, Taylor said. In the summer, the Parsons’ Cause Foundation stages performances every Saturday at the courthouse with actors and actresses presenting shows on Virginia historical events and figures. Topics for 2016 include the Parsons’ Cause case, Benjamin Franklin, Lafayette, John Marshall and Harriet Tubman, among others. In addition, docents from the Hanover County Historical Society provide free courthouse tours on the
second Tuesday of every month. Each tour is unique, Taylor said, as docents interact with visitors and focus on their particular interests and questions. When citizens had business at the courthouse in the 18th and 19th century, they often ate and lodged at the nearby Hanover Tavern – a building that dates almost to the founding of the county, having been built in 1723, according to the Hanover County Historical Society. It is one of the oldest surviving taverns in the United States. The tavern was also the area’s post office for more than 100 years until 1911, ensuring its status as the county’s social center. Patrick Henry lived for a while at the tavern, whose owners included the parents of Sarah Shelton, Henry’s wife. Lafayette, George Washington and Gen Charles Cornwallis all dined at the tavern, and modern-day visitors can eat there, too, grabbing a table at the restaurant that operates today on the site. Historic Polegreen Church, located in Mechanicsville, serves as a reminder of when America began to embrace the concept of religious freedom in the 18th century. A product of the Great Awakening, Polegreen was one of the first dissenter reading houses, licensed by Virginia in 1743 to provide a space for colonialists to study and pray in a branch of Christianity other than the Anglican faith that dominated the new land. A Presbyterian minister named Samuel Davies began to preach at Polegreen soon after its founding, becoming the first nonAnglican to be a licensed minister in Virginia. Davies became famous for his preaching skills. He pushed to educate black slaves, emerged as the first American-born hymn writer and influenced Henry, who later cited Davies as an inspiration in his development as an orator. Today, visitors can enjoy the 110 acres preserved on the site and learn more about Davies and the Hanover Dissenters. Hanover is home to a number of historic battlefields, including North Anna, Totopotomoy Creek at Rural Plains and Cold Harbor, among others. Taylor calls North Anna, a Civil War battlefield located in Doswell, an under-recognized gem and “the best interpretive battlefield around.” The Battle of North Anna, which included more than 150,000 troops, was fought in May 1864 between the RichmondNavigator.com 11
FEATURE
armies of Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee, ending without a conclusive winner. North Anna Battlefield Park, with more than six miles of trails, is filled with interpretive signs and historic markers that help the 172-acre site come alive with visions of the battle fought there. Some of the walking can be challenging, but the park features the kinds of earthworks, including rifle pits and trenches, that can bring a visitor into close proximity with the past. The Battle of Totopotomoy Creek commenced soon after North Anna concluded, as Union troops headed to Richmond only to find their path blocked by the Confederate Army. The four-day battle also yielded no clear victor. Some of the fighting occurred directly in front of the Shelton House, while the family waited in the basement. According to the National Park Service, family lore says Sarah Shelton married Patrick Henry in the house, which was owned by its namesake family for more than 200 years. Part of the Totopotomoy Creek Battlefield at Rural Plains site in Mechanicsville, the house is available to be studied and toured along with the battlefield.
The Union and Confederate armies soon clashed again after Totopotomoy at the Battle of Cold Harbor, where the Confederates ultimately repelled the Union troops and halted their attempt to reach Richmond. According to the National Park Service, the battle was Lee’s final major field victory. At Cold Harbor Battlefield in Mechanicsville, more than 2,000 Union soldiers are buried in a small cemetery on the site. These are only a handful of the places and stories that make Hanover such rich territory for history buffs. Ever since colonists first arrived in the area that would become Hanover in the early 17th century, soon after the founding of the Jamestown colony, Hanover has been an area that pulses with the kind of life and ambition that proves influential far beyond the county’s boundaries and prompts historians to follow behind to investigate more closely years later. For more on Hanover’s history, visit the Hanover County Historical Society at www.hanoverhistorical.org. The society serves as a reliable source for resources related to Hanover’s history but also provides steady information about activities in the area that celebrate and illuminate the county’s past, including upcoming events the society is hosting, as well as information about other historical organizations in the county and nearby areas. Get Ready for AutumnFest
AS WE ENDURE THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER,
perhaps you’ll find it a bit refreshing to reflect on more pleasant days ahead and the Hanover AutumnFest at Hanover Tavern. Just the name AutumnFest makes me feel a bit cooler. This free event, which features a “Family Fun Run HalfMiler,” takes place on September10 at Hanover Tavern. There will be food and drink available for purchase, including craft beers, ciders and wines from Stone Brewing, 7 Hills Brewing Company, Buskey Cider and Cooper Vineyards. There will also be live music throughout the day, with performances featuring Hardin Retty and the Anvil Brothers, Uncle Drew and the Powhite Boys, Beth Martin, Chad Hulsey and George Gagnon. Throw in pumpkin painting, a petting zoo, a magic show, corn hole and a history scavenger hunt, and you have the makings for a fantastic day for the entire family. Speaking of history, our writer, Carly Shai, recently had an opportunity to speak with David Deal, executive director of the Hanover Tavern Foundation. Read more below. Where History Comes Alive
for as long as I can remember,” says David Deal. Deal, who has worked with the Foundation for over six years, says that coming to Hanover County in the 90s has allowed him to connect with history every day. “Making history fun and exciting is an important part of the presentation here at the Tavern,” says Deal. The Tavern uses guided tours, self-guided audio tours, as well as actors portraying historical characters who lived in and visited the Tavern the past. In order to bridge present and past generations, the Tavern strives to bring history to life. “The challenge of presenting history in the classroom is that the time is so limited,” says Deal. The Tavern, which is a popular field trip destination for many area schools, helps to fill in the gaps between the major historical events covered in the classrooms. “When you can show the children local sites and tie in the local people who made an impact on the history of the country, the kids develop a much better understanding and appreciation of local history as well as the relationship to our national history,” Deal adds. Even if you’re not a history buff, you can still enjoy a visit to the Hanover Tavern. “Enjoy a play, have a great meal, stroll through the gardens, see the Coach House, learn about the smokehouse, and visit the third oldest courthouse in America across the street,” says Deal. “I HAVE BEEN PASSIONATE ABOUT AMERICAN HISTORY

SCOTCHTOWN, BUILT IN 1720, IS LOCATED NORTHWEST OF ASHLAND.
Honoring the Legacy of Patrick Henry and More
S
cotchtown is one of the jewels of Hanover County. It represents a striking reminder of a critical time in our nation’s history, when the county’s most-famous native son, Patrick Henry, helped spark the colonies in revolution. Henry (and his family) owned Scotchtown between 1771 and 1778 and lived there for most of that time period. The structure was his first grand plantation house, marking his rise to the ranks of the landed gentry. Henry would begin to grow tobacco soon after purchasing the property. “He’s really made it when he moves there,” said Jennifer Hurst-Wender, director of museum operations and education for Preservation Virginia, which owns and operates Scotchtown. Perhaps the most noteworthy period of his life came during those years at Scotchtown. Hurst-Wender said it was a time marked by Henry’s rise to power, his fight for freedom and liberty for the colonies, and personal tragedy. “It was an extraordinarily important time both in the nation and for this figure,” Hurst-Wender said. While a resident at Scotchtown, Henry served in the House of Burgesses, delivered his touchstone “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech at St. John’s Church in Richmond and became the first elected governor of Virginia. Henry’s wife, Sarah, took a sad turn into mental illness after the birth of a child during the Scotchtown era. She remained confined in the house, ultimately dying in 1775 only a few weeks before Henry mounted his horse at Scotchtown and rode into Richmond to deliver the famous St. John’s address. After he was elected governor of Virginia in 1776, Henry lived part of his term at Scotchtown while battling a bout with malaria. However, he would leave Scotchtown in 1777 after marrying his second wife, Dorothea Dandridge, and relocating to the Governor’s Palace in Williamsburg. Hurst-Wender said it is important to note that while Henry was striving for freedom for the colonies he also owned slaves who lived and worked on the Scotchtown property. That dichotomy is among the topics Preservation Virginia now explores at Scotchtown, which features exhibits and guided tours for visitors. The house has been restored to match the appearance of the house in Henry’s day. Hurst-Wender said part of the exhibition space at Scotchtown, which lies about 11 miles northwest of Ashland near Route 54, focuses on Henry’s life while he was in residence, including his parade of accomplishments. It also depicts the overall history of Scotchtown, which was built in 1720 by Charles Chiswell. In addition, an exhibit, “The Legacy of Patrick Henry, Human Rights, and Liberty,” takes a broader, more sweeping view of Henry’s influence while also exploring questions, topics and important milestones in human rights and liberty around the world, touching not only on slavery and civil rights in the United States but on global events, such as Tiananmen Square and the Arab Spring. Hurst-Wender said historical interpreters at Scotchtown enjoy the opportunity to explore a wide range of topics related to Henry’s legacy and to provide visitors with a dialogue-based tour to help connect Henry’s short stint in the house with the larger scope of history. with Whitney Kiatsuranon and Steve Cook
I want to welcome Whitney Kiatsuranon as our newest Taste Bud. Whitney and I were both on the prowl around the River City recently checking out the comings and goings (mostly comings) on the restaurant scene. Here’s a roundup of our discoveries.
TASTING AWAY IN BREWVILLE
Have you had a chance to check out Brewville in The Rutland Commons Shopping Center at Route 301 and Atlee Road? Opened since October, Brewville offers residents in Hanover/Mechanicsville an opportunity to taste some great brews. They also offer a large variety of beers in bottles and cans. Justin McDonald, the managing partner of the store, says that as a husband and father living in the suburbs, he realizes that he, like many others, doesn’t have the time to get into the city to sample the wares from the local breweries. At Brewville, the breweries come to you so to speak. With 56 rotating taps, many of them dispensing Richmond-area and Virginia beers, you’re sure to find something to please even the most discriminating tastes. At Brewville you have the opportunity to sample a few of the beers, then you can fill your growler and enjoy your favorites at home. McDonald continues as manager at Marty’s Grill, located adjacent to Brewville. From his seven years there, he’s come to recognize that Hanover residents enjoy their craft brews. “At Marty’s, you can sit down and enjoy a beer,” he says, “and then you can go next door to Brewville and choose a brew to take home.” Check the website (BrewvilleVA.com) or their Facebook page for info on beers available. Follow on Twitter and get instant updates when a new brew is tapped. Also, take advantage of discounted prices on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. (SC)
SAME TUNE, NEW PLAYER:
Gian Pimpinella is the new owner of Ashland Coffee and Tea at 100 N. Railroad Ave. While he has no restaurant or related business experience, Gian says he is excited about his new venture, as he has been a “long time customer and has always loved the spot.” When asked what changes are in store for the place he says that he’d “like to diversify some of the music acts to appeal to a wider demographic.” He also hopes to “offer healthier alternatives as well as more meatless option.” While he doesn’t plan on major renovations, he has given the bathroom a facelift and spruced up the furniture. I personally look forward to some welcomed changes to this longtime Hanover County favorite. (WK) 20 Hanover Lifestyle
IS THE UNIVERSE EXPANDING
While I don’t have the expertise to intelligently answer that question, I do know that it doesn’t take a Stephen Hawking to discover that Ashland’s Center of the Universe Brewing Co. is definitely expanding. As of June 6, COTU has launched its sales into both the Fredericksburg area, as well as into Northern Virginia (or as Neil DeGrasse Tyson might say, “Nova”) In scientific terms, this means that if someone requests a Pocahoptas IPA, Ray Ray’s Extra Pale Ale, Universal Lager or a Monkey’s Uncle out in the space from the brewery to the D.C. line, someone will hear you and serve you. Papa In’s Donuts, located at 6104 Brashier Blvd. in Mechanicsville, just opened in May. I drove out to Mechanicsville to chat with Hanna Kim about her new venture. I learned that she has been a resident of Virginia for the past 10 years, but is a native of Texas where her family owns donut shops. In fact, it’s Hannah’s dad who is the donut maker. After looking at several neighboring counties, she says she chose Mechanicsville as the location to open her shop because there was a need for a donut shop in the area. “Donut shops are everywhere in Texas,” she says. “But there was nothing here, so Mechanicsville seemed like a good fit”. The shop has 11 counter stools and a kids table that seats 4 teeny tiny little bottoms. In addition to donuts, Papa In’s also prepares breakfast sandwiches such as the Papa’s Belly ($3.99),which consists of chopped sausage or ham, an egg and two different kinds of cheese enclosed in a breakfast pastry. The breakfast option is a great touch for you early risers since the shop opens at a crisp 5 a.m. Don’t forget that Papa In’s Donuts is a delicious and easy solutions to office events and birthday parties. Hitting The Oyster Trail Hitting The Oyster Trail
JUL/AUG 2016 JONI CARTER
HITTING THE OYSTER TRAIL by Steve Cook
"THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE IN THE WORLD,” says Joni Carter, a native of Virginia’s
Northern Neck, “those who go nuts over oysters and those who can’t stand them.” Carter belongs firmly in the first category. And that’s good. As director of Oyster Asset Development and as an integral part of Virginia Oyster Country, she spends a lot of time around oysters. Even if you belong in category number two, you really gotta love the oyster for more than just its tasty goodness. “Our seafood has saved us,” Carter says. “Through the Civil War, through the Depression, we were able to survive when the cities were going under.” Here’s another reason to love this little bi-valve. Can you think of a food processing plant that, in the natural process of manufacturing its end product, actually cleans the environment? The oyster does. Each and every day, an adult oyster will filter and clean up to 50 gallons of water.
For many years, Carter has combined her expertise in marketing with a passion for working with non-profits. As the descendent of Virginia watermen, she was the logical go-to person when Dudley Patteson, co-owner (with his wife, Peggy) of the Hope and Glory Inn in Irvington, got the inspiration to create an Oyster Trail, along the same lines as the Northern Neck Artisan Trail. Patteson took that idea to Carter, who using her contacts, ingenuity and, yes, her love of oysters, started calling on state agencies. She set up meetings with the Virginia Tourism Corporation and even got through to the Governor. “I wanted Governor McAuliffe to pronounce Virginia’s oysters as the best in the world, because they are,” she says. “I also wanted November to be declared Virginia Oyster Month.” She succeeded on both counts.
RichmondNavigator.com 27
TR AVEL
While Carter and Patteson had initially sought to make the trail exclusive to the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, her efforts were so well received that the entire coastal region of the state, including Virginia Beach and the Eastern Shore, got involved and are part of the trail, which was launched in August of last year. The Northern Neck is not just another stop on the trail. “It’s the first stop,” Carter jokes (okay, it’s a semi-joke). She refers to Middlesex, Lancaster and Gloucester counties as the “epicenter” of the state’s oyster industry and has been instrumental in helping to create VAOysterCountry.com in an effort to showcase the tradition of the watermen and the oysters in that region. If you’re looking for the best seafood festivals in the state, that’s the website you need to check out. How about great restaurants that specialize in oyster dishes? Again, just go to the website for all the info you need. As major a stop on the Oyster Trail, the Tides Inn offers a truly unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the oyster’s history, culture and its culinary value through the Oyster Academy. The Virginia Oyster Academy offers a true bay-to-table experience. The morning begins with a short lecture by Carter, explaining the native oyster’s rich past and present challenge for survival. That’s followed by a two-hour excursion, by boat, with an honest-to-goodness Virginia waterman. Then it’s back to the Tides Inn for an oyster roast and culinary demonstrations by the resort’s executive chef, TV Flynn. The enriching experience is offered every Saturday in October and November. In addition to Oyster Trail related adventures, The Tides Inn provides its guests with a genuine, laid-back, Northern Neck resort experience. Enjoy swimming, boating, jet ski excursions, great dining and full spa services, including yoga. They even offer stand-up paddleboard yoga. For more information, visit TidesInn.com. Considering all of her work with the Virginia Oyster Trail, the Oyster Country website and the Oyster Academy, you’d think that Joni Carter wouldn’t have room for anything else on her plate. But just as there’s always room for one more oyster, she’s made time to co-produce, with award-winning filmmaker Dave Miller and Chef Win Goodier, a fascinating documentary entitled, “Journey on the Chesapeake.”

LIZA CARTER
The film, which will premier on the local PBS station during the week of September 22, explores the history, culture and cuisine of the Chesapeake Bay. You can view a trailer of the film at JourneyOnTheChesapeake.com. Joni Carter admits she’s nuts about oysters. She’s proving that everyday. If you share her enthusiasm, then perhaps it’s time you, too, hit the Oyster Trail. To learn more about the important role the oyster continues to play in the state’s economy and to help plan your next Oyster Trail excursion, visit VirginiaOysterTrail.com. HL

OUR SUMMER HEAT AND HUMIDITY IS UPON US. Most of us are keeping our houses closed up, with our A/C’s running “overtime”. This means we are breathing the same house air “over and over” (What is in your air?). Unfortunately the EPA says “Indoor air quality is two to five times more polluted than outside air!” We at Air Resolutions have proven solutions to improve your indoor air quality in your home. Our goals are to improve the health, safety, energy efficiency and overall comfort for our customers. We perform these goals by viewing your home as “a complete system.” Which means our professional experiences for over twenty years right here in Richmond aids us in our thorough inspection of your complete home. This inspection will “unearth” the sources of your dust problems, humidity problems, high energy bills, and overall discomfort you experience in your home. This inspection will include your crawlspaces, attics and air duct systems. Why these three areas? Because they are where most of the problems lie in our homes. Once we discover the sources of your problems, we design options for you to improve these problems. We stress “options” because there is often more than one way to improve your home, and we prefer to educate homeowners on all the options that are available to them. Contact us and see how we can help you and your family today!
