n September, Moreton First, Moreton Hall’s primary school, will open its transition class for children at the top end of the nursery. “This is a very good way of preparing pupils for reception,” said headmistress, Sylvia Grace. “Some children are more than ready to start more formal learning before they are officially due to enter school. We want to ensure all
children have the chance to extend themselves to their full capability and prepare themselves as much as possible for the challenges that reception will bring. “Our transition children will have more formal sessions in the morning and plenty of play in the afternoons – a stepping stone between nursery and school life.” Moreton’s First Steps Nursery takes girls and boys up to the age of four.
Moreton First Primary School takes boys up to eight and girls to 11. Before and after school care is free; extensive school bus routes operate throughout Shropshire, into Wales and Cheshire, and those aged seven and over are offered boarding and sleepovers l For further details, visit the open morning on Saturday, May 10, call 01691 773671 or visit www.moretonhall.org

Queen’s girls ‘can do’
T
he Queen’s School, Chester, is one of the country’s leading independent schools for girls aged four to 18.
It has a nationally renowned reputation for academic excellence and in the Government league tables, published in January 2008, Queen’s A-level results placed it top school in Cheshire. The school celebrates young women and their potential. It prepares girls to face their future with selfbelief, energy and a ‘can do’ philosophy. Academic success is only one aspect of life at Queen’s and all girls are encouraged to explore their abilities, interests and passions in a wide range of extra-curricular
activities. From drama, art and music to sports, community work and overseas adventures, the girls benefit from an education of the whole person, experiencing new challenges inside and outside the classroom. Staff at the Queen’s seek to develop in each student a risk-taking spirit, leadership abilities, confidence and a love of learning. This individual approach ensures each girl has the support needed to thrive and succeed throughout her time at the school. The school has a number of bursaries available to very able students. l For more details, visit the website www.queens.cheshire.sch.uk
