Too good to miss A
n event not to be missed this Bank Holiday weekend is the Craft, Gift and Food Show at beautiful Gawsworth Hall in Macclesfield (just off A536 between Congleton and Macclesfield).
Two large marquees will be packed with a wide variety of British-made crafts and stunning giftware for sale, with something to suit everyone. Also included this year is a speciality food marquee to tempt the taste buds with superb cheeses, pies, hand-made chocolates, cakes and lots more. In addition to the superb crafts and food, there will be a medieval encampment reliving the 14th century with authentically dressed characters who, throughout the weekend and weather permitting, will perform a number of realistic combat displays and organise the ‘have-a-go archery’. There will be falconry displays all weekend, with the opportunity to have your photo taken with a beautiful bird of prey. And for the children there will be face-painting and Punch & Judy shows each day. So there is a great time in store for everyone at Gawsworth Hall this weekend

bank holiday weekend
Ideal time to get out and about A
s most of our Bank Holidays fall during the spring and summer months they are the ideal time to get out and about.
It’s a great opportunity to plan a trip to a local attraction as a treat for the whole family – with the added bonus that a lot of places have special deals for the day. The North West has many attractions which appeal to family members of all ages – from the youngest children to grandparents. There is everything from farm attractions where you can pet, and even feed the animals, to forest trails and top class theme parks. If you are thinking of working in the garden over the weekend there are lots of garden centres to visit, many
of which have attractions for the children and restaurants where you can enjoy lunch or a snack. As well as plants and shrubs, you can buy everything from water features to patio furniture to make being in the garden more enjoyable. If you simply want to get away from it all there are swimming pools and leisure centres where you can relax or try a new sport, historic homes where you can step back in time, or the most beautiful gardens where you can enjoy nature at its very best. Don’t forget that 2008 is Cheshire’s Year of the Gardens, which celebrates the wide variety of gardens across the county. If you like bargain-hunting there are local markets and car boot sales to visit as well as a wide range of
antique and bric-a-brac shops. Why not treat the family to the latest blockbuster film or a night at the theatre, followed by a meal or a snack in one of our many restaurants or gastro-pubs – which have a huge range of food on offer. Originally Bank Holidays denoted
days on which banks were closed and no trading could take place. Traditionally many businesses still close on Bank Holidays to enable the workers to have a holiday. Those of us lucky enough to have the time off can enjoy a huge variety of attractions.
