ALEXIS CHEVRIER
2015 Portfolio Digital Designer Student CG Artist/ CAD Sculptor
Hello & welcome on my Portfolio! Let me first introduce myself. I’m a 22 years-old French student, currently in 5th year in Digital Design Management at the Institut Supérieur de Design (ISD) FRANCE. I’ve composed this portfolio in order to find a 6months internship from February. In the following pages I will try to show you what I do, my skills, my projects & how I work. I’m passionate and I’ve so many content to show & tell you, I try to condensate it here, as possible. Every content present on my portfolio are non-profit student’s projects. Expect for internships.

Groundwork Introduction
From intentions to project
My first intention was to make an automotive polygonal model. And for my first try, as a challenge, I’ve decided to impose myself a difficulty: the Interior & exterior polygonal modeling, in order to make realistic renderings. My choice headed for this car.
Process Modeling
From low to high poly modeling
For this project I worked with reference blueprints (seen on the previous page) to build my own model. Car’s model is compose of 221 objects and 5300k polygons, the main challenge was the interior.
Vray Render
From 3D model to renders
Process Rendering
Such as the modeling, the main rendering’s challenge was the interior: many objects, many textures, many UVs. A huge material analysis groundwork had been made in order to create the best UV unwrapping and materials editing. The work wasn’t easy, the car is really exclusive: Mercedes made only 75 vehicles and haven’t communicate on them.

Material Editing
From 2D textures to high-end materials
Every materials are analyzed before editing. A groundwork is done in order to find, edit and make textures. I mainly edit them with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and adjust them to fit in object’s UV template.

Cloth Simulation
From teaser to disclosure
Some projects are heavier than others, that’s why I decided to do a little teaser for this one. Whereas it was almost finished, I wanted to tease this project begun for long time. So I’d try to stuck as much as possible to Mercedes’ codes and did this velvet cloth teaser.

Camera Mapping
From studio to outdoor environment
I found during creative researches an awesome advertising work by the CG artist Mike CAMPAU for Mercedes Benz. Impressed, I try as an exercise to make my own with the author’s process and templates. After few hours of work I’ve been really satisfied by the result. Here is the final result, with Mike CAMPAU’s agreement.

Groundwork Introduction
From intentions to project
Crystal Head Vodka is an additive-free vodka manufactured by Globefill Inc. in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. I made this project in 2 days. From a long time, I wanted to work on consumer products and also perfume bottles. This product was for me an opportunity to work on both.
Process Modeling
From reference to final product
My first purpose was to work on a downloaded skull mesh and modify it to do the Crystal Head Bottle for renders. But after try, I note that it will not be that qualitative. So I decide to use the downloaded mesh as template to model my own from above (Retopology standard) and add on the bottle parts.

From brief to technical analysis
Groundwork Introduction
To be honest, whereas I’m an automotive lover, I’m not really sensitive to modern Japanese’s automotive Design. But as a school project, I’d to make a choice to do the best work as possible. Such as I was already working on a roadster, the Mercedes Stirling Moss, I choose to work on an opposite, a pop and colorful vehicle.
From blueprints to A-Class Surfacing
Process Modeling
I’ve constructed the vehicle thanks to blueprints get from Suzuki’s booklet and references pictures, who allows me to understand and reproduce exterior curvatures. The model was constructed with A-Class Surfacing constraints with 1:100mm construction tolerances checked with curvature comb, zebra and locators.
Process Rendering
From modeling constraints to visualization
For time reasons I can’t do many renders of this project, but in order to present it, I did one. It was also the opportunity to reveal my surface modeling work, and present a full automotive process.

Groundwork Introduction
From discovery to interest
This project begin to aging but it was a great experience for me. Whereas it was my first main surfacing scholar project it was also one of my first render challenge and the birth of interests for me, horology and render visualization.
Process Modeling
From picture analysis to technical surfacing
Here is the progression of the watch modeling. As a scholar and learning exercise this watch was chosen in order to model as much detail as possible. The two aims was the surface quality & volume understanding.
Process Rendering
From 3D model to render intentions
The first goal of the project was the watch modeling. With the intention to do some watch visualization I model other elements to compose a scene. So I modeled the watch case and the flat strap that I’ve rig later for renders.

Project Origins
From Design project to CG Animation
After a drawn, this project was awarded to us. Our Hydrofoil Racing Boat animation project was initially a student’s scholar project executed by Pauline HUEZ, Yung PRESCIUTTI, Adrien SENE and Johan LOBEL for the Young Design Awards contest by BMW.
Boat Presentation
So here his the main subject of the project. The boat is composed of a huge sail, one main body who host a tactical driver, two foils, and two secondary cockpits at the arms’ extremity who host two drivers. The boat is conducted thanks to his sail, his rudder and his pendulum system.
Drivers Presentation
Drivers have an important place in the project. The English translation of freude am fahren (the origin project) is driving pleasure, that’s why the Design team as developed a racing suit. We also choose to integrate it in our animation.
Animation Workflow
From story-board to rendered animation.
I’ve introduced you the project origins, now let’s talk about our CG animation project! Here is the main steps of our workflow, the first was the introducing of our synopsis and story-boards. Then during the production we validated the animation with playblast animation to at last reach the final imagery.

Atmosphere Reference
From inspiration to atmosphere
During our analysis, in order to find the better way to reveal our vehicle in our movie, we made some graphic researches and mood-boards. Many atmospheres was possible for this boat, but we kept some really specifics to tell our story. Instead to intend to be ultra- realistic with an ocean’ environment, we choose to bring our spectator in a graphic universe to discover the product.
Boat Rigging
From behavior to rigging
When receiving the project, we get datas from the Design team, such as a 3D model of the boat (refined later) and descriptives informations. We use them to rig and animate in order to be the most accurate from the design intentions.
Swimsuit Modeling
From 2D Canvas to 3D Model
As I said before, drivers have a significant role, their 3D appearances was an apprehension but I take the responsibility to work on because I’ve already had the opportunity to work on a casual driver suit. For this I use the same tool as my previous project, a cloth modeling tool named Marvelous Designer.
Vray Render
Character Animation
From Human IK to Animated Character
Marvelous Designer is a software who allows to model and simulate cloth. It also allows to import & export animations from other softwares. I chose to use these functions to allow a realistic suit animation.

Material Editing
From Color & Trim to High-end materials
During the project, we received instructions about the boat branding. It was initially design for a BMW contest, but we couldn’t keep the DNA for copyright reasons. So we try to match as close as possible to the intentions but proposing a neutral material editing.

Post Production
From Raw Renders to Motion Picture
The last step of our movie before showing! The post-production was a key point of our movie because big part of the it atmosphere had to be created in post-production. It allows us to do the additional effects, the universe and also the colorimetry.

I wad a heavy request in CG animation for this project. From the beginning we planned to do motion pictures to communicate. The planning and organization was done in order to get there. I’d got 3 motion pictures requests: 1 didactic video, 1 architecture animation and 1 advertisement.

My last internship was an amazing experience, in learning and sharing near professional. I came with graphical intentions and few skills and leaved with all the basics even more in CG animation and digital imagery. I worked on few productions for 5 different clients, as a team member and also in autonomy. On the side you’ll could see the second production I made at 3D Vision Nyvalis for HAMILTON. HAMILTON wanted a video manual for the launch of their brand new mechanical watch. I was responsible of the execution.
