I am an urban designer from Parma, Italy. I have professional experience on several scales: from regional planning to small urban projects. I am especially interested in transdisciplinary urbanism and multiscalar urban interventions supported by innovation design tools and data analysis / visualization. I would like to explore the possibilities of the implementation of open source urban protptypes, user centered design, bottom-up community initiatives and partecipatory models.

MASTERPLAN STRATEGIES walkable slow neighborhood
RESPONSIVE SYSTEM connected common spaces
input
output
Can a neighborhood respond to citizens needs in a dynamic way? We proposed a responsive system that makes the space adapt to activities. The input comes from citizen decision -which activity to perform- and real time data -traffic flow, pedestrian flow and weather data-. The output is the adaptive surface of the space, that can change, conducting enclosure, transformation, expansion and connection. We implemented 2 main strategies for the masterplan: polycentric distribution of facilities -walkable slow neighborhood- and interconnection of corridors, courtyards, adaptable spaces and residential units. The projects also introduces digital tools such as augmented and virtual reality into urban planning process. https://vimeo.com/171966098 Adaptive & Augmented City Award

The idea is to study the behaviour of the city by designing a tool for analyzing formal and informal data. The analysis helps finding a new relationship between the city infrastructure and other influencing elements. The process is applied in relation to commerce, in a 2x2 km area in Barcelona. The visible and invisible infrastructure of the city is analyzed, defining different commercial areas. The products sold in a P2P on-line market are categorized according to city terminology, in order to match them with the commercial areas. The data are overlaid with the rental empty shops in the selected area. ‘City Translator’ is an interactive map to help citizens find the best place to sell their products in pop-up stores, according tocity-product relation. http://issuu.com/sedtug/docs/city_translator?e=3118672/36342656

The Robotic City seminar was developed as collaboration between The Why Factory, TU Delft and IAAC. 29 students from the two institutions came together for 5 days to develop a research about the future of robotics in the city. The Library of Robotic Speculations was created to imagine the future of technologies and how those could change the planet and the way we inhabit our cities because we believe that technology is an important component in the future of humanity and urban planning. The library is composed of future potential scenarios, from utopian to dystopia, from near to far future, form auto-, robo-, nano- to geno-. https://issuu.com/mayis67/docs/robotic_city_booklet.compressed/1?e=2593566/36512548

The extended use of technology has changed the way people communicate and use public space. Now seems that technology, connecting people in a global scale, is isolating them in a local scale, breaking the link between the person and the physical space. Can we use technology as a tool for connecting citizens in their public space? Wi-Talk! is a communication tool that allow people to dialogue with other neighbors through a digital banner hung from their windows. Users can send it text from their phone and the message is visible for people passing by in the public space. http://issuu.com/chiara306/docs/wi-talk__booklet_s/38?e=1 https://youtu.be/c4pcfIombtM

CASE STUDY
THE NEW STREET FUNCTION
CASE STUDY
THE NEW MOVEMENT PATTERN
How can mobility influence the urban planning process in Somerville? Our vision for Union Square was the transformation from a traditional neighborhood to a decentralized innovation district. Two category of traffic flows were identified. The crossing flow cannot be controlled but optimized using intelligent traffic systems. The focus was on commuter traffic, reducing the on road parking and the vehicular mobility. We designed a network of multifunctional parking hubs spread out all over Somerville. The result would be creating new community hubs (parking, facilities, coworking, commerce), freeing up all the on road parking and using this open spaces as common areas. http://issuu.com/chiarita5/docs/self_sufficient_prototype/1 Winner of Audi Urban Future Initiative Competition

Reference cities Prototype
Can a city be self-sufficient? To answer this, we examined the city as living organism. Starting from its anatomical systems, a deep research was developed around the main systems that keep the city functioning: water, energy, matter and mobility. This was backed up by studies centered on urban fabrics and the distributions of public spaces, facilities, housing and tertiary activities inside the city. The results of the research were applied to an area of 1 square kilometer which could be replicated many times to make up a city. http://issuu.com/chiarita5/docs/self_sufficient_prototype/1 https://youtu.be/ybfUnkbrm-I

The proposal aims to define the main characteristics and distribution of the facilities in a self-sufficient neighborhood. The proposal for facilities includes traditional categories, the idea is that the protoptype could be currently implemented in every society. After the study and characterization of the facilities, by defining the main standards, the proposal focuses on the distribution strategy and the creation of hybrid facility hubs. These building are flexible spaces that hosts different types of facilities, reducing the movements among them and encouraging social interaction between different groups of users. http://issuu.com/chiarita5/docs/self_sufficient_prototype/1 https://youtu.be/ybfUnkbrm-I

PROTOTYPE | TRIANGRAM
Triangram aims at giving back to citizens interim spaces in the city, resulting from the intersection of streets. This type of spaces are not for vehicular circulation, neighter for pedestrian transit and they are mostly used as parking. The solution proposes to transform the interim spaces through pop-up interventions able to support public uses for citizens, such as meeting point, reading space, relaxing, pic-nic, flea market, etc. Starting that the interim triangle spaces are on the street, next to transit space, programs connected to mobility, like bus or taxi stop, can be located close to the triangles in order to provide a space of exchange connected to the trasportation network of the city. https://vimeo.com/157606198

ACADEMIC POST-GRADUATE MASTER’S THESIS The aim of this project was to explore the pactice of planning in Spain, develping a full Developement Master Plan. The area afected by the Plan was classified as ‘land for developent’ by the General Developement Master Plan for the city of Colmenar Viejo. This document was elaborated during the first term of the Master.

ACADEMIC Recover the historical memory to enhance the present. To achieve this, we first deep analyzed the territory, with a 4 mounth field research. We studied the area as a system, focusing on the analysis and mapping of its cultural heritage. The research revealed that the condition of isolation of the area, made it cristalyze in the past, representing now the hystorical memory of the whole region. The proposal of a new infrastructure of services, strengthens the role of the area as a touristic attractor. as well as helps its developement.
