FIGURE DRAWING

W E E K D A Y S J U L Y 6 TH- J U L Y 1 7 TH • 1 0 A M - 1 P M FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH-12TH GRADE

Since ancient times the human figure has been a primary subject of art. This is only natural because to render the human figure is to represent the human experience. In the 19th century life drawing classes employing the nude figure became a standard in art education and it still serves as a core practice in traditional arts curriculum. Everything we design and make relates to human scale and proportions, therefore the ability to understand, translate and interpret the figure is integral for artists, designers and architects. This two-week class will focus on drawing the figure in space with correct proportions and anatomy. Students will learn to convey and understand the underlying geometry and structure of the figure including volume, weight, skeletal form and muscular mass. From short gesture drawings to poses of longer duration with more complex compositions, students will improve how they draw with both accuracy and intuition. The sessions will involve both demonstrations and critique and students will have the opportunity to learn from each other. All art supplies are included. This workshop employs nude models. A parent permission form is required to register for this class.

From remote control toys to hand mixers, students will use a variety of unusual methods to create drawings that will challenge their perceptual and observational drawing skills. This class will introduce innovative materials and processes and students will learn about different modes and purposes of drawing. All art supplies are included.
