BLOOMINGDALE’S TO OPEN “BLOOMIE’S” STORE IN GREATER CHICAGOLAND AREA

In addition, Bloomingdale’s has an international presence with a location in Dubai. Be sure to follow @bloomingdales on social media, become a Loyallist, and for more information, or to shop any time, visit www.bloomingdales.com.

In his role as Chief Innovation Officer, he wants to continue to disrupt the systems that lead to young people not having sufficient resources.

Chicago Beyond is recentering how philanthropy can work, which means getting out of the way. One initiative is the Rapid Response Fund, another is the Abundance Campaign, which asks wealthy philanthrop ic organizations to make a commitment to fund Black organizations in community.

“I’m really excited to do what I did at CPS, get out, talk to people, listen and say, ‘OK, how can we do this together’ in real time. I hold space for so many young people, all of their ideas and all of those I’ve lost. I have never seen young people be bad, what I have seen is young people be under resourced and have barriers to their success,” Swinney said.

B loomingdale’s is America’s only nationwide, full-line, upscale department store and a division of Macy’s, Inc. It was founded in 1872 and cur rently operates 33 Bloomingdale’s stores and 20 Bloomingdale’s, The Outlet Stores, in California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Vir ginia, along with 1 Bloomie’s location in Virginia.

Being the Chief Equity Officer at CPS, Swinney had the experience of building an equity framework for driving change in the system. It gave him insight into all the systems that impact young people – trans portation, housing, access to healthy food. Swinney wants to listen, learn and continue to build with communities, understanding people’s experiences and bringing all of those voices and perspectives together to create things that support young people thriving.

Swinney believes the work Chicago Beyond does is important because it is about young people. Swin ney remembers being a young person. He also remem bers his students, what they wanted and their dreams. “Everybody has a dream. How do we move from the dream deferred to actualizing things. With Chicago Beyond, it’s really about how do we do that for real and how do we do that with young people, and the community that’s around them,” Swinney said. Swinney also believes that by centering those who are impacted by structural racism and investing in organizations doing work to create opportunities for those people is what makes Chicago Beyond great.

NEW YORK, PRNewswire -- Bloomingdale’s today announced that it will open its second “Bloom ie’s” store location in the greater Chicagoland area at the end of 2022. Bloomie’s, which opened its first location in Fairfax, Virginia, in 2021, is the retailer’s smaller store concept that provides a casual, contem porary, and highly curated experience. “We’re excited to be opening our second “Bloomie’s” location,” stated Charles Anderson, Di rector of Stores, Bloomingdale’s. “The new concept remains authentic to the Bloomingdale’s brand yet reinterprets it on a smaller scale that is infused with energy and ripe for discovery. We’re looking forward to sharing the “Bloomie’s” experience with our loyal North Shore clientele and new customers alike.” This 50,000-square-foot Bloomie’s store will open in a new location at Westfield Old Orchard in Skokie, Illinois, and will add a broad and meaning ful curation of soft home categories. The existing Bloomingdale’s Old Orchard location will close later this year upon Bloomie’s opening. It will begin clearance on September 6th, remaining committed to providing exceptional service to customers until its closing, which is expected to take place at the end of October.

BY TIA CAROL JONES Chicago Beyond was founded by Liz Dozier, former principal of Fenger High School, in 2016. The goal of the organization is to think about how young people can be better served. Chicago Beyond invests in organizations and community leaders who work to change the lives of young people in the city of Chica go.

Chicago Beyond has invested at least $40 million in Black organizations, without making it a tough pro cess. Swinney described it as something called, trustbased philanthropy. It involves trusting that people know what to do, without making them jump through hoops to do it.

Secretary of State Jesse White is reminding motorists to drive safely and keep our roads and highwaysAccordingclean. to the Illinois Litter Control Act, a conviction for littering on a roadway results in a Class B misdemeanor, with up to six months jail time and a maximum fine of $1,500. A second conviction results in a Class A misdemeanor, with up to one year in jail and a maximum fine of $2,500. Littering can also be largely unintention al. In fact, much of the debris on highways comes from trucks that do not have their loads covered. White recommends the following tips to help keep our roadways safe and clean: · Always carry a garbage bag in your car. If you have litter, you now have somewhere to dispose of it. · Securely cover open loads on all trucks. Much of the debris on the highway comes from trucks that have their loads uncovered. · Clean out pickup truck beds. Random trash left in the back of pickups can easily blow out onto the street. · Set an example for others. Children often imitate what they see. We can prevent bad behav ior by picking up after ourselves and not littering. · If you smoke, put cigarette butts where they belong: in ashtrays. “Let’s work together to keep our roadways safe and clean,” said White.

Swinney wants people in the city to think about how they see young people in this city, to change their mindsets and biases. CHICAGO – ComEd encourag es income-eligible customers to ap ply for utility-bill assistance now. The new program year began Sept. 1. For fiscal year 2022, $8.3 billion in LIHEAP funding was provided by the federal government – the most ever to help Americans meet their energy needs. “We understand individuals and businesses alike still face economic challenges from the pandemic, while also dealing with the negative impacts of the rising prices for everyday products and services due to inflation,” said Me lissa Washington, ComEd’s chief customer officer and senior vice president of customer operations. “We encourage our customers to take action immediately if they need help paying their energy bills, as ComEd stands ready to connect customers in need with a variety of energy-assistance options, includ ing LIHEAP.”InIllinois, LIHEAP provides a one-time grant, per program year, with no payback required, based on a household’s income and size.

It’s been over a year since the death of Illinois State University student Jelani Day, and his family and the community still have questions about his death. State Senator Elgie R. Sims, Jr. – who championed what is known as the “Jelani Day” bill – will celebrate Day’s life and legacy Saturday. “A year has passed since the tragic loss of Mr. Jelani Day, yet his family, the community – and I –continue to mourn,” said Sims (D-Chicago). “Mr. Day’s family – and the families of missing people across this state – deserve our continued help, support and assistance.”When Day went missing, it took two weeks to find his body and another three weeks to identify his remains. This led Sims to champion a law – Senate Bill 3932 – to allow county coroners and medical examiners to receive federal assistance in identifying missing persons. Day’s family played an instrumental role in the passage of the measure. The new law will require a coroner or medical examiner with custody of human remains that are not identified within 72 hours of discovery to immediately notify the Federal Bureau of Investigation for assistance in identification.Whileboth Day’s family and Sims himself are proud of the steps the legislature took to ensure no other Illinois, family has to experience the tragedy Day’s family felt, they believe more awareness still needs to be broughtThat’sforth.why Sims is standing with Day’s family as they launch the Jelani Day Foundation, an effort to fight for change and equity to ensure families of color have the help and momentum needed during the search for missing loved ones. The celebration of life and further announcements regarding the launch of the foundation was held at the Bone Student Center at Illinois State University on Saturday, Aug. 27th.

In 2021, the Foundation committed $850,000 to a partnership with local workforce development organizations, including Hire 360, Chicago Women In Trades, IBEW-NECA Technical Institute, Revolution Workshop, and St. Paul’s Community Development Ministries, to train 400 new apprentices from the South and West Sides. The Foundation is using this model to recruit and train the workforce that will build the Obama Presidential Center, but to also create more opportunities in construction for South and West Side residents to work on projects across the city. The 2022 workforce report shares that to date 158 candidates have already been placed in jobs around the city.

The Foundation credits several measures with allowing them to meet their goals, including: A barrier reduction fund to pay for expenses like apprenticeship fees or tools that have presented challenges for workforce candidates in the past; Breaking up large construction bids into multiple smaller packages to ensure smaller and diverse vendors could compete for the bids; Working with trusted allies and partners who have proven successes in engaging constituencies like women in trades and returning citizens who have paid their dues to society and struggled to re-enter the workforce.

The Obama Presidential Center broke ground in September 2021 and is expected to open its doors in 2025. Interested applicants can visit https://www.obama.org/opc-jobs/ to start the workforce application process and learn more about upcoming orientation meetings.

Obama Foundation Outpaces City Goals for Diverse Hiring, Awarding 52 percent of Contracts to Diverse Vendors

On Wednesday, Aug. 24, the Obama Foundation released its first annual workforce report highlighting that the organization is on track to meet its ambi tious workforce business diversity goals for construction. With just 18 percent of the spend utilized to date, 52 percent of contracts have been awarded to diverse vendors. While workforce hiring has only just begun, 32 percent of the early workforce comes from the South and West Sides, a key priority for the Foundation to focus on specific communities rather than citywide residents.

The City of Chicago requires developers to award 32 percent of contracts to minority and women-owned businesses, while ensuring 50 percent of the workforce resides in the City of Chicago - though they do not distinguish between what neighborhoods the workforce will come from within the city limits.

ComEd worked with local nonprofit and workforce training agency, Insituto del Progreso Latino, to recruit locally for the inaugural training program, which includ ed primarily Black and Latino participants.

StemCyte Announces FDA Approval of IND for a Phase II Clinical Trial to Treat PostCOVID Syndrome Using Umbilical Cord Blood Stem Cell Therapy

PCS consists of sequelae in one-third of COVID-19 patients and could potentially be per manent. The U.S. government estimated that between 7.7 to 23 million people are suffer ing from PCS in the United States. In Asia, PCS prevalence reaches 51%. Symptoms of PCS include breathlessness, persistent cough, fatigue, pain, brain fog, anxiety, depression, palpitations, dizziness, weakness, and sleep problems. These symptoms have negative impacts on personal communica tion, daily activities, and social functioning. Some PCS suffer ers even display severe disabilities. While a recent survey in the U.S. announced more than three-quarters of PCS patients did not feel sick enough to be hospitalized when infected with SARS-CoV-2, this impending health disaster is caused by a “silent killer” that seems determined to irreversibly destroy human health.

StemCyte aims to treat PCS by infusing umbilical cord blood that is capable of anti-inflammation and tissue repair. How this “silent killer” wreaks havoc on the body is still under in vestigation, as it appears SARS-CoV-2 viral infection is the current prospective mechanism leading to multiple organ damage. More over, this pathogenesis triggers long-term in flammation and auto immunity. Therefore, although COVID-19 may be resolved in a patient, the remaining Long COVID symptoms become a chron ic and systemic illness that leads to persistent PCS complications. The prevention and treatment of COVID-19 is still challenged due to speedy mutations of SARSCoV-2. Nevertheless, medical science has gradual ly identified keys to develop medicines to control infection. Hope remains in Pandora’s box as the hope to cure PCS-mediated disability is yet under develop ment. There have been a few candidates for potential treatment or cure examined in clinical trials, but almost all may just temporarily ameliorate a specific PCS symptom. Treatment with systemic and per sistent efficacy will be the total solution to cure PCS. StemCyte’s Phase II clinical trial aims to effectively treat PCS by infusing umbilical cord blood that is capable of anti-inflammation and tissue repair for long-term effect. StemCyte is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of firstin-class cellular therapies. It has operations in the United States, Taiwan, and India. The company has cooperated with more than 350 medical transplant centers around the world, and has successfully as sisted in the treatment of more than 2,200 patients using cord blood transplants. StemCyte considers umbilical cord blood banking its core competence, while actively pursuing new regenerative cell ther apy indications, including spinal cord injury, Long COVID treatment, acute stroke, cerebral palsy and cancers. StemCyte’s mission is to continue to develop its unique cord blood banking capabilities to achieve the goal of delivering lifesaving therapies to patients who suffered degenerative and other life-threatening diseases. BALDWIN PARK, Calif., PRNewswire -- Southern California cord blood regenerative therapeutics company StemCyte is pleased to announce it has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for their Phase II clinical trial for Post-COVID Syndrome (or PCS) using umbilical cord blood stem cell therapy. PCS is also referred to as Long COVID and is characterized by lingering health effects or symptoms that are not explained by tests, which could last years.

• Curb appeal: Innovations in the metal roofing industry have resulted in beautiful panels and shingles that look identical to traditional materials, but without the associated damage concerns and maintenance issues that can quickly compromise curb appeal. For example, ProVia stamped panel metal roofing features an embossed surface that mimics the look and texture of cedar shake and quarried slate, and the horizontal panels resemble shingles rather than the industrial-looking standing seam metal roofs.

The ability to choose to overdraft can help consumers avoid bigger repercussions like credit impacts and loss of access to banking that unpaid bills or late payments can cause. Allowing customers to make their critical payments – albeit for a small fee – sometimes makes a difference that helps allow them to stay in the banking system.Forexample, if you opt to pay your rent or car pay ment – and avoid a penalty or a negative impact to your credit score by simply paying an overdraft fee – then the option to overdraft has provided a value.

“Removing the ability to overdraw an account doesn’t address the fact that many customers need to pay bills, even during temporary cash shortfalls,” says Alex Overstrom, head of Retail Banking at PNC Bank. “The key is that the consumer should be making the decision to incur or avoid fees, not just the bank.”

Great Reasons to Consider a Metal Roof (StatePoint) When your bank account balance is low, life can be stressful. For example, when it’s time to pay large expenses that can’t wait, like car loan payments or monthly rent, it’s all too easy to overdraft a bank account. In fact, U.S. consumers pay billions of dollars a year in overdraft fees for covering all types of purchases, both large and small. There is no doubt that overdraft fees serve as a pain point for many consumers, and as the issue of overdraft continues to be discussed and debated, several banks have taken different approaches in response. Some have taken steps to address overdrafts, mostly by eliminating fees or eliminating the ability to overdraft completely.Alternatively, PNC Bank now offers a solution that pro vides customers with greater control in these circum stances. Low Cash Mode, a tool that offers transparen cy and choices to help customers avoid fees by man aging low-cash moments or mistimed payments, is a feature available in the PNC Virtual Wallet account through the PNC Bank Mobile app. The feature notifies you when your available balance is near or below zero and gives you at least 24 hours (and often more) to bring a negative balance to at least $0 through a deposit or funds transfer before incurring a fee. It also gives you the choice of whether to pay or return certain pending checks and electronic payments when your balance is nearing negative territory.

One of the most important considerations for any major home project is its return on investment. That’s why experts point to metal as a solid choice for roofing. “If you’re looking for that elusive combination of beauty, longevity and energy efficiency, metal roofing is a smart choice,” says James Alpeter, ProVia metal roofing marketing manager. “It offers superior performance and enhanced curb appeal, plus excellent resale value down the road.”As Alpeter points out, your roof plays an important role in safeguarding your home, protecting it from the elements and providing a barrier to temperature extremes. With your roof covering at least 60% of your home’s exterior, consider these advantages that metal has over other roofing materials:

stain protection, and virtually no material degradation. Bottom line? Your roof will stay beautiful with minimal care.

• Environmental stewardship: Metal roofing can offer significant energy savings when compared to asphalt shingles, helping you reduce your carbon footprint and lower your utility bills. You can take your environmental stewardship a step further by choosing long-lasting, recycled and recyclable products, as well as products that are American made, which require less shipping. To learn more or get your project started, visit provia.com.Thedecision to reroof your home is a big step. As you weigh your options, be sure to select materials that are not only striking, but offer durability, strength and weather-resistance.

The Value of Overdraft

• Longevity: Roofing takes a beating from all kinds of weather -- rainstorms, high winds, hail, harsh UV rays, and heavy snow. Materials like asphalt and wood shingles are susceptible to mold and deterioration, and clay or slate tiles can chip and break. Metal roofing is durable, longlasting, and withstands extreme conditions better than other roofing options. Metal roofs typically last 40 years or more, and their warranties are stronger as well.

MONEY How to Get a Handle on Overdraft Fees

At the same time, this roofing choice features built-in fade and chalk resistance, a premium architectural coating offering dirt, mildew and 3

Control Pays Off This level of control has demonstrated real results. PNC reports that 64% of customers who have a nega tive-balance event cure their account in time to avoid incurring a “Sometimesfee. people just need a little more time to cover important expenses,” says Overstrom. “And in these moments, they should have choices to make things right.”
