GIANNOULIAS ANNOUNCES DIGITAL WALLET PAYMENTS AT DMVS
Illinois customers now have convenient, secure Tap to Pay option
DMVs throughout Illinois are now accepting contactless payments as part of the Secretary of State’s push to modernize technology and offer more convenient service for customers, Secretary Alexi Giannoulias announced.
“Allowing for digital wallet payments like Apple, Google and Samsung Pay reinforces our steadfast commitment to improving the customer experience at the DMV by leveraging new technology,” Giannoulias said. “Adopting digital wallets increases the accessibility and ease of purchase customers already enjoy at stores and restaurants they visit.”
Reports show that more than half of all Americans use contactless payment for everyday purchases from groceries to gas. The widespread adoption is attributed to people wanting a contactless payment method during the pandemic and the increased security offered by the technology.
Near-field communication (NFC) is safer than using a traditional credit card with a magnetic strip or chip due to the use of endto-end encryption to ensure maximum fraud protection.
“Illinois residents can rest assured that their payment and personal information is safe when they visit the DMV,” Giannoulias said. “The security surrounding the payment and the speed at which it is processed leaves no room for fraudsters to steal information.”
Customers may now use their digital wallets to pay at all 150 Illinois DMV locations across Illinois as well as the Secretary of State’s Business Services and Index departments.

Kidney Coach Wants To Create Healthy Communities
Continued from page 1
BY TIA CAROL JONES
She likes to say, “give yourself to yourself before you give yourself away.”
Riggins was a registered pharmacist for 35 years before retiring 10 years ago. She loves being in her community promoting health. She is a certified health and wellness coach, as well as a kidney coach.
The Kidney Party Project is scientific, pharmaceutical and Bible-based. Riggins created it because she saw there was a need to fix her community. The first Kidney Party took place in July 2023. She described it as a next level health fair. While she liked the concept of health fairs, oftentimes, there wasn’t any follow-up after the events.
“You get your blood pressure, your get your blood [work], you know your numbers, then you go home and what happens? I want to create an atmosphere where we’re having fun. It’s festive, it’s like a luau,” she said.
At the Kidney Party there is a tiki bar that has coconut water, alkaline water, smoothies and juices. While people are enjoying themselves, they are also doing health screenings. Riggins wants to show people that getting healthy is not boring and it is not hard to do.
Riggins said that when a person finds their voice, that is how they get healed.
Riggins said that she sees that there are more and more dialysis centers opening in the community. She said that she knows that people can get healthy and wants to ensure they can, by working with vulnerable populations and communities.
“Love is going to set us free to get healthy,” she said. Riggins is currently studying to be a community health worker. She wants to make sure that people have their needs met in the healthcare industry. She wants to let people know there is a better way and it’s easy.
“At the end of the day the best thing you can do to support your kidneys is to flush, and flush it with water. We are drinking lots of sweetened beverages,” she said. Riggins uses an app that can show how healthy a drink is.
Riggins is using social media to get the word out about the Kidney Party. Her goal is to reach younger people, so she has embraced social media as a platform for her message.
Riggins hopes that people will have a personal encounter with the healthcare professionals they engage with. She wants people to ask questions of their healthcare providers when they don’t understand something. She said it can make all the difference when it comes to maintaining a person’s health. Riggins is seeing more people get more engaged in their health and wellness. Her phone is ringing with people who have questions about their health.
Riggins is being intentional with the roll out of the Kidney Party Project. She wants to ensure that the parties are taking place in communities where they are most needed. They want to roll it out fairly and equitably. Riggins is looking for people to reach out and let her know where to host the parties.
“At the end of the day the Kidney Party is all about giving hope,” she said.

Keeping People with Dementia Safe During Natural Disasters
Early fall is peak time for natural disasters, such as Tornadoes in Illinois. Having a disaster plan in place is particularly crucial to helping those living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. Changes in routine, traveling and relocations necessitated by an emergency evacuation may increase the risk of dementia-related behaviors that can cause additional challenges during an emergency.
This year’s class comprises 34 Leaders from Africa, 35 from the Asia-Pacific region, 36 from Europe, and 100 from the United States. These “Obama Leaders” come from 70 different nations and territories and represent a wide spectrum of sectors—including public, private, and civil—and they are dedicated to tackling some of the world’s most pressing issues. From democracy and civic engagement to addressing the climate crisis and advancing education, these Leaders are ready to work together and in their communities to solve the greatest challenges of our time.
“Our Leaders program connects and empowers changemakers from around the world who are advancing inclusive and effective solutions to the biggest challenges we face,” said President Obama. “I’m incredibly proud of the Leaders we’ve worked with over the years, and excited to welcome this new class. Together, they bring different perspectives, ideas, and
The Obama Foundation Leaders Program was inspired by the leadership values and approach of President and Mrs. Obama. The program draws on the Foundation’s ‘Hope to Action’ curriculum to support Leaders in engaging diverse perspectives, building collective power, and making tangible, sustainable progress towards a better world.
The Leaders program was first launched in Africa in 2018, followed by its expansion to the Asia-Pacific region in 2019, and then to Europe in 2020. The Leaders USA program began in 2023, and this is the first year that all four Leaders programs will run concurrently, allowing for more opportunities for cross-regional collaboration. Upon completion of the program, Obama Leaders will continue to gain a broader continental and global perspective, joining the Obama Leadership Network, a growing global alumni community of over 1,000 active changemakers.

“Living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias can make it hard to cope with disasters, particularly if an evacuation is necessary,” said Delia Jervier, Executive Director Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter. “People living with dementia may not understand what is happening or why an evacuation may be needed. They may not want to leave their current surroundings. Upsetting the person’s routine can make dementia-related behaviors worse – leaving the person feeling confused, agitated or withdrawn.”
During National Preparedness Month this September, the Alzheimer’s Association is offering these important tips for families facing Alzheimer’s and other dementias to prepare for natural disasters that may lie ahead: Be Prepared
w Check weather conditions regularly before leaving the house and adjust plans as needed.
w If the person with dementia lives in a residential building or attends an adult day center, learn about its disaster and evacuation plans.
wBe sure the evacuation plan takes special needs into consideration. For example, if oxygen is used, be sure there is access to portable tanks.
w Provide copies of the person’s medical history, a list of medications, physician information and family contacts to people other than the primary caregiver.
wConsider enrolling in a wandering response service.
w Purchase extra medication; keep essential supplies well stocked. Prepare an emergency kit or “go kit”
w Consider preparing an emergency kit in advance and store it in an easily accessible location.
w Be sure to account for your needs as well as the needs of the person living with dementia (e.g., prescriptions, medical documents, non-perishable food, phone charger, etc.).

to Marginalized Culinary Businesses through Restaurant Business Development Grant Program
HOUSTON, Texas, PRNewswire -- According to the National Restaurant Association’s 2024 State of the Industry report, 98 percent of culinary business owners say higher labor and operations costs are an issue for their restaurant, 97 percent cite food inflation as a challenge, and 38 percent expressed their restaurants were not profitable in 2023.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ANNOUNCES ALL 102 COUNTIES NOW HAVE 911 SERVICE
TOULON – Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Brendan F. Kelly, joined by Illinois Statewide 911 Administrator Cindy Barbera-Brelle, Stark County Sheriff Steve Sloan, and Peoria-Stark Joint Emergency Telephone System Board Chairman David Tuttle, today announced every county in Illinois now has 911 service.
“This is a significant milestone for ISP’s Division of Statewide 911 and the whole state,” said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. “The agreement between these two counties means residents will see quicker response times as telecommunicators can get the appropriate first responders enroute sooner.”
Stark County entered into an agreement with Peoria County to create a Joint Emergency Telephone System Board so that Stark County residents and those traveling through the area can quickly and efficiently receive emergency services. This marks the successful completion of a monumental mission assigned to the Illinois State Police by the General
Assembly in 2015.
Before this partnership, Stark County residents had to call a specific, 10-digit number for emergency services, such as the sheriff’s office or fire department. People traveling through Stark County who didn’t know which number to call had to be routed through other 911 systems, which meant more steps before police, fire, and EMS could be dispatched.
In 2015, Public Act 99-0006 established consolidation requirements for public safety answering points (dispatch centers) and mandated the delivery of enhanced 911 to unserved counties. Since 2016, the Illinois Statewide 911 Administrator, with the advice and recommendation of the Statewide 911 Advisory Board, has awarded approximately $47.5 million in grants to 911 systems across the state from the 911 Consolidation Award Grant Program to ensure enhanced 911 service throughout Illinois.
Public Act 99-0006 also requires the establishment of a

I will provide scenarios weekly that illustrate problems encountered by families and businesses that resulted from their lack of knowledge, planning, and/or understanding of what to do to protect assets.
I will also conduct interviews with licensed Estate and Succession professionals. These professionals will provide information intended to demystify the process of protecting and passing on assets from generation to generation.

statewide Next Generation 911 network to enhance the delivery of 911 service to residents living in and traveling through the state of Illinois. Next Generation 911 is a system comprised of managed IP-based networks, gateways, functional elements, and databases that provide new methods of communication. It is designed to provide multimedia data capabilities, such as text and video, to first responders so they have more information and a “virtual on-scene” look of the incident to determine what resources are needed before they arrive. The system is also capable of providing more accurate locations to cellular users’ incidents in situations where they may not know where they are or are unable to communicate effectively.
There are 179 public safety answering points (911 centers) in Illinois, 158 of which have already switched over to Next Generation 911, and 21 are moving in that direction.

This project is about both the music and the message.” Jacky maintains a busy schedule and is currently touring with Kirk Franklin’s 2024 Reunion Tour alongside her sisters and niece Kierra Sheard-Kelly, Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, and Marvin Sapp.
To bring this project to life, Clark-Chisholm collaborated with friends, including life artist B.Slade (‘Jacky?’ Executive Producer), a 2x Emmy® Award-winning performer, Emmy®-nominated composer, Ovation® Award-winning, STELLAR® Award-Winning, GMA Dove® Award-winning, and 8x Grammy®-nominated, multi-platinum-selling singer, songwriter, actor, producer, and entertainer. Antun Foster, B.Slade’s producing partner, serves as ‘Jacky?’ Executive Producer and Creative Director. Foster is a 2x BMI Award-winning Songwriter and Publisher of the Year and a 2x STEL-
LAR® Award-winning writer, musician, producer, and creative director. Foster previously penned the Vickie Winans’ smash hit, *“Shake Yourself Loose,”* and served as musical director for the ‘Finally Karen’ tour. Jacky shared, “Working alongside B.Slade and Antun Foster has been an incredible journey of musical and personal discovery.”
‘Greatest Part of Me’ is a soul-stirring, reflective anthem written and produced by B.Slade and co-produced by Calvin Baxter. Antun Foster produced and directed the music video with B.Slade. They tapped Emmy®-nominated producer Norman Lee as Assistant Director and Glen Jones as cinemaphotographer for the project.
The ‘Jacky?’ LP comprises 14 tracks, each a testament to Jacky’s enduring spirit, rich vocal texture, and musical versatility. These elements reflect her multi-decade journey—from delivering pristine harmonies with The Clark Sisters to establishing her solo mark. Jacky proclaims, “‘Jacky?’ is more than just an album or a collection of songs. It’s a chapter of my life. Every song tells how I survived struggles, personal trials and heartaches, and found my voice and strength through unwavering faith.”
The ‘Greatest Part of Me’ music video is available on multiple platforms (https://album.link/Jacky), and the album ‘Jacky?’ is available on all major streaming platforms. Released under Jacky Clark-Chisholm’s Minor Prophet Productions label imprint, the album is distributed by B.Slade’s Peerless Music Group.
RON BASS UNVEILS NEW ART EXHIBIT AT JOHN F. KENNEDY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT’S TERMINAL 7
JAMAICA, N.Y., PRNewswire -- The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), the company that manages John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 7 and is currently building the airport’s new state-of-the art $4.2 billion Terminal 6, announced today the installation of a new public artwork exhibit by renowned Brooklyn artist Ron Bass in Terminal 7 that will elevate the travel experience for passengers by contributing to a uniquely New York sense of place.
The four wall murals in the departures and arrivals areas represent the first major art exhibition at the terminal, which is home to 13 domestic and international airlines serving some 2,000 passengers per day. Bass’ art exhibit at Terminal 7, selected by JMP, will be on view for a limited period until 2026, when the 54-year-old terminal is expected to be decommissioned to make space for the second construction phase of Terminal 6. The new Terminal 6 is a key component of the Port Authority’s $19 billion transformation of JFK airport into a world-class gateway. The historic project includes two new terminals, the modernization and expansion of two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a new, simplified roadway network.
Ron Bass is celebrated for his eclectic and dynamic style that seamlessly blends elements of pop culture, street art and fashion. A native New Yorker, Bass is deeply influenced by the city’s rich artistic heritage and diverse cultural landscape. Over the years, Bass has made significant contributions to the art scene in New York City though the exhibit at Terminal 7 is his first in an airport setting. Creating an authentic sense of place is a hallmark of both Vantage Group, which leads the JFK Millennium Partners consortium, and the Port Authority as part of its transformation of the region’s airports into world-class facilities. Recently, the Port Authority and JMP also announced the selection of 18 artists, including 10 from New York City, who will create the sculptures, suspended installations, wall works, and glass mosaic floor medallions at the new Terminal 6.
Executive Director Rick Cotton. “Whether at our existing terminals or soon at the new terminals that are currently under construction, we are elevating the passenger experience with stunning works of public art that enhance the journey from curb to gate.”
“We are constantly looking at how we can further improve the passenger experience at Terminal 7 and reinvigorate the space. Our aim was to ensure that travelers and employees alike felt New York’s vibrant, uplifting spirit as soon as they entered our building – and we knew that Ron Bass was the perfect artist to do this,” said Karen Ali, Chief Operating Officer at JFK Millennium Partners.
Passengers are invited to interact with the murals and to take a moment to connect with the artistic pulse of New York City before embarking on their journeys at these locations in Terminal 7:
“Dear NY” – Arrivals
“Unified” – by gates 7/8
“I (really) LOVE NY” – by the Currency Exchange near gates 5/6
“Destination: New Heights” – gate 9
“Across the region, the Port Authority is transforming its airports with new award- winning, world-class terminals that are filled with inspiring works of art,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “As we have done at Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A and at the new LaGuardia Airport, we will transform JFK International Airport into a great global gateway with terminals that incorporate inspirational public art, operational excellence, 21st century technology and worldclass functionality.”
“New York is the cultural capital of the nation, so there is no better way to create a unique sense of place at the nation’s busiest international gateway than by including original, inspiring works of public art at Kennedy Airport,” said Port Authority
“This is a huge honor for me to partner with JFK Millennium Partners at Terminal 7. It’s my hometown -- my foundation,” said artist Ron Bass. “I wanted to create a free- flowing and abstract New York story. A story that is vibrant, engaging, fun, and representative of the diverse cultures, art, sound, taste, and feel of my beloved city. I’m approaching this body of work as a first line of defense for the many travelers arriving to visit NYC, as well as paying homage to all the employees and staff, residents, and natives returning home. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and the word ‘LOVE’ will be present physically and emotionally, and that is my gift to everyone who comes across this four-piece collection.”
Terminal 7 is currently home to Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, ANA, Condor, Ethiopian Airlines, Frontier, HiSky, Icelandair, Kuwait Airways, LOT Polish Airlines, Norse and Sun Country Airlines. Public art is one of the cornerstones of the Port Authority’s strategy for developing new, airport terminals, as demonstrated at the publicly acclaimed and award-winning LaGuardia Airport and Newark-Liberty Airport’s new Terminal A, where art contributes to the world-class passenger experience.

Dream Exchange Founder Address
Black Business Leaders
in Exclusive Fireside Chat at The Heritage Club
CHICAGO, PRNewswire -- Dream Exchange, the first minority-controlled stock exchange, in formation, is proud to announce an exclusive fireside chat that featured its Founder and CEO, Joe Cecala, and Managing Member of DX Capital Partners, LLC, Dwain Kyles. The event took place at The Heritage Club in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 14th, 2024, bringing together a distinguished audience of black investors, local business owners, corporate C-suite executives, and entrepreneurs.
Attendees had a unique opportunity to engage with the Dream Exchange Founder and gain insights into the future of minority entrepreneurship and access to capital. The event was co-hosted by Corey Johnson, an executive for Procter & Gamble, and Solomon Wilcots, a former NFL player turned National Television broadcaster.
The fireside chat delved into critical issues surrounding access to capital for minority-owned businesses. The discussion also touched on Dream Exchange’s mission and the implications of the Main Street Growth Act (“MSGA”). The MSGA will support the growth of small-cap businesses by offering a groundbreaking solution through the establishment of “venture exchanges” for the trading of early-stage enterprises.
Corey Johnson, an executive at Procter & Gamble, remarked on the importance of the conversation: “In today’s economy, access to capital is the lifeblood of innovation and growth. The Dream Exchange is paving the way for a new era of financial empowerment for black businesses, and I’m honored to be part of this crucial discussion.”
Dream Exchange Founder and CEO, Joe Cecala stated, “This fireside chat is more than just a conversation—it’s a pivotal moment in our journey, where we’re sharing our vision with some of the brightest minds in the business community. By creating opportunities like never before, we’re empowering a new generation of innovators and leaders to build the future they envision.”
Dwain Kyles, Managing Member of DX Capital LLC emphasized the significance of the event: “This gathering was not just a conversation; it’s a movement. We are committed to changing the financial landscape for minority entrepreneurs by creating platforms that provide access to capital and resources that were previously out of reach.”
The Dream Exchange is preparing its application and operations to become the first minority-controlled company to operate a licensed stock exchange in the history of the United States. In addition, Dream Exchange is championing the creation of a new type of stock exchange called a venture exchange, which will list and trade the securities of smaller, early-stage companies. Dream Exchange’s mission is to create equal access to a marketplace that instills ethics, humanity, and fairness into finance.
“PAINT
THE POLLS” INITIATIVE ANNOUNCES ROBUST SCHEDULE OF VIRTUAL EVENTS LEADING UP TO U.S. ELECTION DAY ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5
NEW YORK, PRNewswire -- The Sundial Group of Companies — which includes ESSENCE, the Global Black Economic Forum, Girls United, AfroPunk, BeautyCon, Refinery29, and New Voices Foundation — announced a robust schedule of virtual events for the next two months leading up to Election Day under its voter education town hall series titled “Paint the Polls Black.” Now that the conventions have concluded, the collective work to educate, register, mobilize and protect the community’s freedom to vote takes center stage. The Paint the Polls initiative will host a series of virtual town halls on issues that range from helping voters understand how the key policy issues impact their daily lives to ensuring that voters are prepared to confront any potential challenges when casting a vote. The inaugural Paint the Polls 2024 event attracted more than 200,000 people and provided useful information to help voters navigate this election.
bia, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands offer early in-person voting for all voters. We will host a town hall on what you need to know about early voting and its benefits.
October 21 — Election Protection. If you show up at the polls and are told you are not registered or confront other obstacles in voting, what can you do? This town hall walks you through how to report irregularities, how to find all of the resources to help you protect your right to vote and how to become a poll worker.
“We believe that our brands hold a responsibility to educate our audiences thoroughly because wielding our power at the ballot box is among our most precious rights. We do not make assumptions about people’s level of awareness on local, regional, and national issues; we meet people where they are,” said Alphonso David, President & CEO of the Global Black Economic Forum. “Despite the barriers voters may face during the 2024 election cycle, we are committed to providing tools that empower our audience to make informed decisions that reflect their personal goals and values.”
Paint the Polls events will bring voting and election experts, public officials, and artists to discuss the issues that directly impact our communities and provide voters with the resources they need. Events begin at 8pm ET and are live streamed across multiple platforms including Streamyard, the Global Black Economic Forum’s YouTube and social media accounts and ESSENCE’s YouTube and website at www.essence.com.
Scheduled Paint the Polls Town Halls
September 30 — Battleground States. We often hear that elections will be decided by the battleground states, often 4 to 5 states. We are going to those battleground states to hear from our community about how we mobilize to protect the rights of marginalized people.
October 7 — The Group Chat. Registering to vote is obviously important, but what if you also pledged to convince at least 5 people you know to also do the same? Now that is extending our community to seize back our power. Join us in a campaign to encourage every person you know to register to vote. And for the kicker, there may be a surprise gift in it for you.
October 14 — Early Voting. Forty-seven states and the District of Colum-
November 4—Get Out the Vote. On the eve of Election Day, we will host multiple virtual events to provide information and resources to voters and hear from them about their plans to vote. This robust schedule builds on the inaugural Paint the Polls virtual event that attracted more than 200,000 people and provided information, addressed misinformation and informed the public about registering for one of the most consequential elections in our lifetimes. Participants included world-renowned DJ D-Nice who started the event with a special pre-show DJ set; award-winning White House Correspondent and event co-moderator Ebony McMorris who spoke to the importance of access to affordable healthcare for Black women and families; Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett and Congresswoman Shontel Brown who paid tribute to the legacy of the U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee and addressed the political attacks on Black women in the media and the issues that will be on the ballot for Black women in the upcoming election, including the anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) movement and reproductive justice ; Author and Political Commentator Bakari Sellers who emphasized why Black men should reach out to other Black men across their network to ensure they’re engaged in the upcoming election; Award-winning media Personality Van Lathan who provided background information on voter turnout in his hometown, Baton Rouge, and how leaders in the area can engage the community to increase civic engagement on a local, regional, and national level; and NAACPAward Nominated Content Creator Lynae Vanee shared tools for Black voters who are interested in mobilizing other voters online and offline, including community volunteer opportunities, to protect the voting process.
The stakes are high, and Paint the Polls is tailored to ensure that the public has the information, resources, and support to exercise their right to vote and protect our future.

Connecting Consumers With Competent, Ethical Financial Planning Advice
(StatePoint) Everyone deserves a stable financial future. From analyzing retirement needs to building diversified investment portfolios, a great financial planner helps individuals and families reach their goals.
But with a growing number of financial planners retiring and trillions of dollars expected to pass from baby boomers to their heirs over the coming decades, there is rising consumer demand for professionals dedicated to providing compe-
tent, ethical financial planning advice. Interested in becoming a financial advisor or expanding your skills? Here’s how earning CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification will help you better serve your clients.
It builds trust: The cornerstone of CFP® certification is the commitment of CFP® professionals to act as a fiduciary at all times when offering financial advice. The fiduciary standard also encompasses the duty of loyalty, the duty of care and the
duty to follow client instructions. This commitment means that you agree to place your clients’ interests above yours, and to consider your clients’ goals, risk tolerances and personal circumstances while working with them.
It expands your knowledge and experience: CFP® professionals complete a two-part education requirement that includes a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university as well as coursework on 72 financial planning topics through a CFP Board Registered Program. Certification also demonstrates that you have passed the rigorous CFP® exam and that you have thousands of hours of practical experience in the field.
It will alter your approach: Today’s consumers value a holistic approach to their financial management. CFP® professionals are trained to offer just that.
It builds confidence: Consumers are more inclined to take your recommendations if they feel they’ve partnered with the right financial advisor. What are they looking for in an advisor? The statistics speak for themselves: 86% of consumers prefer an advisor who has passed a certification exam and completed a rigorous education program, and 90% see an advisor’s certifications as important.
