LYSOL PRO SOLUTIONS AND CHICAGO WHITE SOX PARTNER TO CONTINUE TOP TIER DISINFECTION PROTOCOLS AT GUARANTEED RATE FIELD The Chicago White Sox and Reckitt’s Lysol Pro Solutions – Lysol’s businessto-business offering – are excited to announce a new partnership that further enhances disinfection protocols at Guaranteed Rate Field for the 2021 season and beyond. The partnership announcement follows the commitment by Reckitt with Major League Baseball, announced in October 2020. The White Sox have implemented several new disinfection protocols to help ensure the safest possible gameday experience for fans visiting the ballpark. Recognizing 88 percent of consumers expect businesses to take additional measures for consumer protection,1 the White Sox will tap into Lysol’s industry-leading 100-plus years of germ-kill expertise and innovation to enhance the cleaning and disinfection measures at the ballpark. “We are proud of the work we have done to help protect against the spread of germs throughout the past year and excited to partner with the White Sox to bring our learnings and resources to professional baseball in Chicago. Through our enhanced protocols at Guaranteed Rate Field and the extension of the Lysol brand to the White Sox, we hope to inspire confidence among fans as they return to watch their favorite team in-person,” said E. Yuri Hermida, Executive Vice President of North America Hygiene for Reckitt. By partnering with Reckitt, the White Sox trust in a science-backed, strategic approach, which offers additional reassurance to fans and staff throughout the season and beyond. The partnership includes: • Supply of EPA-approved disinfection products, including those proven to be effective against SARS-CoV-22, the virus that causes COVID-19, to use across areas where germs are most prevalent. • Rigorously developed protocols applied to key high-touch, high-traffic surfaces in stadium to help protect from the spread of germs on surfaces. • Signage at the ballpark to reinforce protection and build confidence among fans. • Dispensers with Lysol Disinfecting Wipes around the ballpark for fans to use.

Grace and Peace Revive Center, Intentional Sports and By the Hand Club for Kids, have partnered with Chicago Fire Foundation and Jason and Verdana Heyward to create a $31 million professional level sports, education, and wellness campus in North Austin. John Zayas is the Senior Pastor at Grace and Peace and CEO and founder of the Revive Center. Zayas discovered with the pandemic and riots on the West side there were not enough resources. The Revive Center has been located at 1856 N. Leclaire for 14 years. The surveys showed that there weren’t any activities for community residents ages 15-22. The 150,000 square foot campus was the opportunity to bring the wraparound services that Grace and Peace provides, along with the educational services, By the Hand Club for Kids, and with the sports training of Intentional Sports together in one place. “We felt like if this campus can be done right, where it looks toward the future and helps people, we can make an impact on the West side,” he said. “We believe that this partnership is the key to everything. Too many organizations are doing it by themselves, and they can only reach a certain destination or destiny.” Donnita Travis, founder and executive director of By the Hand Club for Kids, is always looking www.citizennewspapergroup.com

for opportunities to have a greater impact on the lives of children and their families. By the Hand Club for Kids has five locations throughout Chicago, including a location at Kinzie and Laramie, where they serve 800 children. The new campus will be by the hand Club for Kids’ sixth location. “Two miles in a city like Chicago is like going into a completely new neighborhood,” she said. “Our goal is to serve thousands of kids and we have the opportunity to serve more kids at this location.” Andy McDermott, of Intentional Sports, was brought in last summer to build the sport program for the campus. There will be football, volleyball, baseball, basketball, esports, character building and leadership, as well as external programs – Adult Night Leagues and camps. “None of us are here to just create a sports center and charge people and make money. That’s not why we’re all here. We’re all here because there’s a need, where kids around here and other cities and urban centers around the country aren’t getting the same opportunities as kids in Lake Forest or Barrington or Scottsdale …,” he said. “I just feel like all kids deserve to learn a sport, to fall in love with a sport and learn the lessons, I did when I was five years old.” McDermott has started doing soccer clinics in the neighborhood and through talking to the children who participate found there is a need for a safe space for the young

people in the community. He wanted to bring a professional level training center that is a safe space the young people could come to everyday. Chicago Fire Foundation will build a permanent location on the campus. It will offer 20 free hours of soccer programming each week, regardless of their socioeconomic status. It will include training from professional level trainers and coaches. “For us as a club and a foundation, it’s extremely important to give back to the community. We are looking to serve all 77 neighborhoods across Chicago. We knew this would provide more access and safe places to play for a community that needs it,” said Jessica Yavitz, executive director of the Chicago Fire Foundation. The Jason Heyward Baseball Academy will also be located on the campus. Heyward who plays for the Chicago Cubs wanted to serve as an example of what baseball looks like and where baseball brought him, to Chicago. “It looks like people are coming together out of nowhere. If you would have told me when I started playing this game at 5-years old that I would have an opportunity to reach back into a community, to leave a legacy off the baseball diamond. Yes, winning a championship on the field, but I feel like this is a life championship,” he said. “Thank you for taking me in as your own. I love this city.”

Alpha Kappa Alpha Promotes Good Health with Walgreens and Other Partners during Two-Day Chicago Pop-Up Health Events The events also marked the beginning of the first Black Sorority’s 69th Boule Part II and 2021 Leadership Seminar Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® (AKA) traveled to the South Side of Chicago, the home of the organization’s Corporate Office, for a two-day health event filled with COVID-19 vaccinations and testing, mammograms, HIV testing, and a blood drive. The events also served as the official kickoff to the organization’s 69th Boule Part II and 2021 Leadership Seminar, which was held virtually for members of the first Black Sorority. Photo Credit: Victor Powell Photography/Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Walgreens and CORE served as the official partners during the two-day event and administered 77 vaccinations and 50 COVID-19 tests, respectively. AKA’s Mammography Mobile Unit provided free mammograms to 82 women while 63 HIV tests were administered by the South Side Help Center. The Community Blood Center also received blood donations from 19 residents. “Coming home to Chicago was exciting, but more importantly, it was rewarding and embodied everything that we have stood for since 1908 – service. We were able to provide much-needed health services to our community,” said Alpha Kappa Alpha International President & CEO Dr. Glenda Glover. “COVID-19 is still very real, and Black people, in particular, are behind the rest of the population in terms of receiving the vaccination. We are on a mission to change that statistic, and we are so proud that we have partners like Walgreens and CORE to help us in reversing the numbers. We aim to save at least one life through our service in the community. In Chicago, we can thankfully say we made a

difference in the lives of hundreds through vaccinations, mammograms, and other health screenings.” AKA has traveled the country with Pop-Up Health Programs through the organization’s international community service initiative. The events, held recently in Kansas City, Kansas and Missouri as well as the Mississippi Delta, have addressed the needs of underserved communities and provided access to vaccines, health services, and more. “At Walgreens, we are committed to the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. That’s why we were delighted to partner with Alpha Kappa Alpha once again, this time in Chicago – also our home, to aid in providing access to the vaccine to underserved communities right within their community,” said Alethia Jackson, Vice President, Federal Government Relations and Chair of the COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Taskforce at Walgreens. “Quality care and access to services is essential to living a healthy life. COVID-19 has affected Black and Brown communities in unimaginable ways. We are on a mission to ensure vaccinations are available for all.” The pop-up health events took place at Imani Village and at Jeffrey Plaza/Local Market, both located on the South Side of Chicago. Participating residents were treated to the sounds of DJ Mikal Clay as well as coffee, water, and personal protective equipment (PPE). “It was the perfect beginning to our 69th Boule, which was unfortunately put on hold last year due to the pandemic. So, we combined our Boule with our Leadership Conference for the first time virtually,” said Dr. Glover. “What better way to commemorate what was an extraordinary year than with extraordinary service to the community. AKA is never deterred no matter what the circumstances are. The pandemic created a need for vaccines, and we combined that with other crucial health services that were free of charge to residents. It was truly a momentous occasion, and we are grateful for our partners that aided in being servants for our community.” Alpha Kappa Alpha’s commitment to providing essential services to the community will continue on Saturday, August 21 when the Mammography Mobile Unit travels to Tulsa, OK. www.citizennewspapergroup.com

Major Illinois airports will directly receive and spend federal funding thanks to a measure sponsored by State Senator Christopher Belt (DSwansea) that was signed into law Friday. The new law allows Illinois airports that have 10,000 or more patrons per year to directly receive and spend federal funding. Under the current law, federal funding goes to the Illinois Department of Transportation’s aeronautics division to distribute to airports across the state, with the exception of O’Hare and Midway International Airports in Chicago. “This will give the major airports in Illinois the authority to make their own financial decisions in a timely manner,” Belt said. “This should help IDOT get these important projects done faster and reduce a considerable backlog.” Currently, IDOT must approve all planning, construction, development and improvements to hangars. The approval process for these contracts has caused significant delays, and this measure would take the pressure off of IDOT and allow individual airports to move forward with projects on their own timelines. “Larger airports in Illinois have the resources to manage the funding and make necessary decisions for the projects,” Belt said. “It’s important we include all major airports in the state, not just O’Hare and Midway, to speed up the approval process.” The law takes effect Jan. 1, 2022.

State Senator Robert Peters Signs New Legislation Benefiting Chicgao Public Schools Recently celebrated the signing of legislation he sponsored that would allow local school councils of Chicago Public Schools to fill vacancies in almost any situation under the Peters Law. “Parents, students and other members of the community have the right to have a say in how the schools in their area are run, and local school councils are how that right is realized,” Peters said. “If a small technical rule prevents them from being able to meet, then they need to have the recourse to fix that issue, and this law accomplishes this.” In general, a local school council is not prevented from filling its own vacancies; however, when membership drops below the minimum number required to start a meeting, LSCs often find their hands tied. Senate Bill 652 lowers the minimum number of member required from seven to four so that vacancies can always be filled – even in situations with a large number of vacancies. “We’re coming out of a global pandemic that put the future of public education into a state of uncertainty, so it’s extremely important that local school councils are still able to meet and make decisions about how schools are run,” Peters said. The new law is effective immediately. Earlier in the year, it had passed both chambers of the General Assembly with no opposition.

Senator Martwick Law Will Strengthen Chicago Park District Pension System State Senator Robert Martwick (D-Chicago) sponsored a new law that would help in securing the future of the pension system of the Chicago Park District by requiring it to follow expert recommendations, ensuring park district employees receive the money they’re owed in retirement. “Many people rely on their pensions for financial security later in life,” Martwick said. “Ensuring the Chicago Park District pays its pensions according to industry standards will help it get back on track and ensure its employees have the funds necessary to retire.” House Bill 417 eliminates the “multiplier” employee contribution method and instead mandates actuarially required payments be made based on real actuarial calculations by 2024. This law also provides a payment ramp for the Chicago Park District, which requires a $40 million employer contribution in 2021. It also permits the district to issue up to $250 million in pension obligation bonds. “Park district employees work hard and deserve to collect the pensions they’ve earned,” Martwick said. “Instead of kicking the can down the road on the pension funding problem, we’re fixing it now.” The new law was signed by the governor on Friday and takes effect immediately.

JINS Launches Its First Biodegradable Sunglasses Newest additions to popular JINS&SUN sunglasses brand feature biodegradable, bioplastic frames. SAN FRANCISCO PRNewswire -- JINS Eyewear announced a new line of biodegradable sunglasses as part of its popular JINS&SUN brand. Launching in the USA, the newest line of sunglasses will combine JINS&SUN’s refined frame designs with biodegradable, bioplastic materials. JINS&SUN was launched in April 2021 under the concept of “EVERYDAY EYE WEAR,” with the collections not limited to an occasion or style. The brand was an immediate hit. In response, JINS&SUN has decided to expand its product offerings with the Classic Collection. The Classic Collection combines modern technology, innovative materials, and traditional designs to create sustainable sunglasses in line with current customer values. A notable feature of the Classic Collection is the use of the plantbased bioplastic M49. M49 was developed by Italian polymer manufacturer Mazzucchelli as a sustainable alternative to acetate, the plastic used in most glasses frames. In contrast with regular acetate, M49 contains a high amount of plant-

derived content that can be quickly broken down by microorganisms upon disposal. In addition to being more eco-friendly, M49 boasts high durability, lightweight feel, and a smooth, beautiful luster. In other words, it is the ideal material for JINS&SUN sunglasses. JINS has committed to offering its first sustainable product at a price that is accessible by a wide range of customers. The JINS&SUN Classic Collection will provide affordable, high-quality sunglasses in timeless designs that can be enjoyed for years to come. Similar to wooden frameworks in furniture or buildings, the Classic Collection frames (the acetate frame and temple parts only) can be easily broken down, separated into different parts, and recycled at the end of their life cycle. This also means that any worn parts can easily be removed and replaced, allowing you to maintain and use your Classic sunglasses for a long time. Classic Collection sunglasses are available in three different frame styles – Boston, Wellington, and Sirmont. All three bold, classic frames are made

of lightweight and lustrous M49. The hinges of each frame are adjustable accent pieces that can be configured to your facial and head shape. JINS seeks to provide customers who are dissatisfied with environmentally harmful, consumerist trends with timeless, sustainable classics. The JINS&SUN Classic Collection will be a favorite of those who value the product life cycle. Made of the bioplastic M49, a plant-based material made by Italian polymer manufacturer Mazzucchelli. Highly biodegradable and easy to return to soil. Inspired by wooden frameworks, the front hinge is adjustable and separable. Can be easily maintained by disassembling. Comes in classic, bold shapes. Founded in 1849 Mazzucchelli is a well-established Italian polymer manufacturer. Boasts 45% of the global market share of acetate, a plastic material used to construct spectacle and sunglass frames. Known for producing high-quality acetate in a number of vivid colors and patterns. Has developed about

20,000 colored acetates to date, and continues to produce hundreds of original colors every year. M49 Bioplastic developed by Mazzucchelli. Plant-based cellulose acetate material. Made from cotton fiber and wood pulp. Made using less petroleum-based resources, which translates to reduced carbon-dioxide (CO2) production. Tests using ISO14855- 2:2018(=JIS K 6953-2) demonstrate that M49 has a higher biodegradability rate than regular acetate. A new sunglasses brand of JINS has a concept of “EVERYDAY EYE WEAR”. The collections are not limited to an occasion or style. They are for everyone who lives under the sun & enjoys life every day. NIGO®, who continues to influence the world’s street culture, and JINS, the eyewear brand, which

is innovating the world of eyewear, have teamed up to bring new sunglasses collections. JINS believes in Eyewear Fit for All. With stylish, innovative eyewear and thoughtful design, they encourage customers to explore their personal style, without having to worry about budget. Not only are they here to help you see the world better, but they also want our world to be a better place to see. Their Cases for Causes program collaborates with local nonprofits, with beautifully designed cases to support their missions. 100% of case sales goes back to the nonprofits. The brand has retail stores globally in Japan, China, Taiwan, Philippines, and Hong Kong, including U.S. stores, in the San Francisco Bay Area: Union Square, San Jose, San Mateo, and in Los Angeles: Sherman Oaks, Arcadia, and Torrance.

surrounding this time, Gen Z showed that they are still full of dreams. Southern Company Gas partners with Chauncey Black of Grammy® Award-winning Blackstreet to launch ‘No Diggity’ Safe Digging Campaign 25th anniversary of ‘No Diggity’ remixes nostalgic hit song to promote safe digging awareness Southern Company Gas partnered with Grammy® award-winning singer, songwriter Chauncey Black of Blackstreet to launch the “No Diggity” Safe Digging Campaign to emphasize the importance of calling 811 before starting any outdoor digging project. The witty remix of the hit song, recorded by Black himself, marks the first time that the lyrics have ever been altered. The music video was filmed in Atlanta and features the influencer family Terrell and Jarius Joseph. “When I heard about this campaign and its message, I instantly wanted to get behind it. The message builds awareness of the dangers around unsafe digging where utility lines may be involved and is something that must be heard. And what better way to deliver an important message than with a song,” Black said. “Safe digging saves lives. No diggity, no doubt.” Southern Company Gas is using

the fresh take on “No Diggity” to remind homeowners and professional contractors across the country that Aug. 11, National 811 Day, serves as an important reminder to always call 811 before starting any outdoor digging project. Social media influencers in the states served by Southern Company Gas – Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee and Virginia – will be sharing the safe digging message and music video as part of the dynamic “No Diggity” Safe Digging Campaign. The Common Ground Alliance, a national nonprofit organization working to protect underground utility lines, says damage to covered pipe and cable happens once every few minutes because of digging near unmarked utility lines. To help prevent damage, calling 811 is required before digging, including minor do-it-yourself home improvement projects like planting a tree or installing a fence or deck, as

well as breaking ground on a major new building development. “Nothing is more important to us than ensuring the safe delivery of natural gas to our 4.3 million customers. But we can’t do it alone,” said Kim Greene, chairman, president and CEO of Southern Company Gas. “We are so thrilled that Chauncey of Blackstreet is partnering with us in this important effort. By leveraging such a creative remix to their song, we aim to educate more people about the importance of calling 811 before beginning any digging project. When homeowners and contractors call 811, it notifies the appropriate utility companies of the intent to dig. Professional locators are then sent – for free – to the requested dig site to mark the approximate locations of underground lines with flags, paint or both. A homeowner using a shovel and a professional excavator using an www.citizennewspapergroup.com

earthmover are required by state law to call 811 at least three business days before starting any digging project. Calling 811 before digging on any property is the law. Southern Company Gas encourages homeowners and contractors to follow these safe digging guidelines and always dig with CARE: Call Before You Dig: Before starting any outdoor digging project, customers should dial 811 at least three days in advance to request to have underground utility lines marked. Requests to have utility operators locate underground lines, including natural gas, electric, water, sewer, telephone and cable lines, can be made 24-hours a day, seven days a week. The service is free. Allow the Required Time for Marking:

After contacting 811, wait for underground utility lines to be marked before digging. Locators will mark the approximate location of buried lines with color-coded spray paint, flags or stakes corresponding to the utility. The color used for natural gas is yellow. Respect the Marks: Only use hand digging tools to carefully uncover the area around a utility line when you need to dig near location markers. Excavate Carefully: Make sure the marks remain visible during the project. If the lines are damaged or removed, customers are encouraged to contact 811 to have lines remarked. Illinois Senator Mattie Hunter Hosted Her 17th Annual Family Health And Fitness Fair

This past weekend, State Senator Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago) hosted her 17th annual family health and fitness fair, which featured health screenings, giveaways, and live entertainment, among many other activities. “I am glad that we had such a good turnout, and that attendees and vendors followed COVID-19 safety protocols,” Hunter said. “We had a good time while staying safe and healthy.” In 2003, Hunter hosted her first health fair. After several successful years, she partnered with the Illinois Institute of Technology, and they’ve teamed up to offer free services like health screenings, school supplies, and food for more than a decade. This year, Hunter and IIT added COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, as well as back-to-school haircuts and braiding, to the list of important services offered to area residents. In addition, the Institute for Positive Living, ComEd, Social Change, TASC, Representative Sonya Harper (D-Chicago) and Representative Lamont Robinson (D-Chicago) were among the long list of sponsors for Saturday’s event.
