WOW COMMITTEE

A SEASON TO REMEMBER WOMEN ON THE WATER

BY NANCY BERBERIAN

The Women’s Committee of the Chicago Yacht Club was very busy this past Spring. We concluded our WOW Wellness Series in May with a luncheon featuring Diet Coach Judy Weitzman. Judy gave numerous tips on how to improve our eating habits while still enjoying our favorite foods and with specific advice using the Club’s menus at both Belmont and Monroe. Judy answered everyone’s questions from how to get kids to eat more vegetables to controlling those late night cravings. Everyone enjoyed her valuable advice and the motivation she provided. Thanks to all the members who participated in the WOW Wellness Series this year.

We had our first Create and Sip event in April – Succulents and Dinner. The ladies enjoyed a delicious Chef Larry dinner and then planted their own beautiful planter under the guidance of Sara Proctor. Sara’s passion for succulents especially made it a fun evening. And back by popular demand, Create and Sip - Paint Night was held in June, taught by CYC’s very own Genevieve Boyle. The ladies learned new skills and created a masterpiece.

WOW also hosted several educational programs: Lunch & Learn with Rear Admiral Shoshana Chatfield, the first woman to serve as the President of the Naval War College. And Dinner & Movie Night – featuring the award-winning documentary City at War: Chicago. Both events received rave reviews.

The WOW Sonar Sailing Series kicked off its 12 week program in June. With over 50 ladies participating in sailing and dinner afterwards, it is sure to be a hit again this year. The ladies will not only improve their skills but also have a fun night out on the water with friends.

Please keep reading Dock Lines and the CYC Calendar for WOW future events. All members are welcome and we look forward to seeing you at WOW events throughout the season. See you at the Porch Party on Mackinaw Island!
