Let us wind the clock back to 1947. An outstanding professional rider with 15 years of pedalling in his legs decides to bring to fruition, some of the ideas developed in his mind, during the course of many kilometres on the road. His name: Cino Cinelli. History remembers Cino less for his racing career, but more for his design innovations. Cino gave modern cycling the first aluminium handlebars, the first saddle with a plastic core, the first pedal straps and the first quick release pedals.

Thirty years went by and in 1978 Cino handed the company over to a young industrialist, a leader in the field of steel tubing, with a love of cycling: Antonio Colombo. The Mega Headtube steering column 1-1/8” – 1-1/4”, has been designed according to the 60/40 ratio-standard between the down tube and the top tube. This improves tube interaction, taking stresses away from the down tube, in conditions of high frontal fork strain, such as in sudden braking at high speed. Steering control is significantly improved, also thanks to the profiled curvature of the new bespoke Columbus monocoque fork blades.

The saddle joint is one of the outstanding characteristics of the VBO frame, the point at which most of the rider’s weight is transferred and where road vibrations are transmitted most strongly. To minimise these vibrations Cinelli have created a special transition zone, slimming the rear seat stays to make them more vertically flexible and seamlessly connecting the seat stays and top tube. This means that vibrations from the rear wheel are dispersed along the horizontal and vertical tubes, instead of being transmitted to the seatpost and therefore the rider. The choice of a 27.2 mm diameter seatpost also increases the vibration dampening effect.
BORN TO BE WIRED Pure racing geometry and full internal cable routing means the VBO is ready for mechanical or electronic components (born to be wired). The bottom bracket allows easy cable routing, completely concealed, improving the looks of the bicycle and significantly reducing aerodynamic resistance. The oversized construction of the bottom bracket housing and the right chainstay increases the lateral stiffness of the frame, considerably improving pedalling efficiency. The left chainstay is designed for easy mounting of an electronic groupset’s external battery.
NEMO TIG Steel is back! This competition frame is hand made in Italy with the legendary Columbus Spirit triple butted tubes. The Tig welding technique used increases the stiffness of the frame. The Nemo lugged sleeve with integrated seat clamp connects the top tube and seat tube to the rear stays for better stress distribution and resistance in the frame.

REACTIVE ANGLES The rear stays have been redesigned to shorten the wheelbase and increase the seat and head tube angles. The bottom bracket height has also been raised a few crucial millimetres to obtain a frame suitable for circuit and criterium races, where responsiveness and speed are vital. SAETTA RADICAL PLUS After several years of development, now in its third iteration, the Saetta Radical Plus is the epitome of understated luxury, with its sleek lines. It is named after the Italian translation of “bolt of lightning”. Featuring a matt almost black finish with gloss decals and the iconic Cinelli winged “C” picked out in a contrasting red. LASER MIA The Cinelli Laser is an icon of bicycle design. Originally created in 1980, the Laser was something altogether radical, and represented Cinelli’s new total approach to design, spearheaded by Antonio Colombo. The Laser pioneered the use of TIG welding in bicycle frames, eliminating the need for lugs. The Laser enabled athletes to win 28 gold medals at Olympic Games and World Championship events.

The Laser Mia is now a carbon jewel in Cinelli’s crown, a creation, reimagined for the modern era. Each Laser frame is hand built to order in Italy, through a sophisticated wrapping and postcuring technique. This creates a frame that weighs just 890g, with every detail exuding precision and craftsmanship. The frame is complemented by full internal cable routing suitable for both mechanical and electronic groupsets. The Laser Mia has classic geometry, with sizes from 48 to 62cm in 1cm increments.

ICONIC ELEMENTS Team Laser worked specifically to develop this project, maintaining the concepts and iconic elements that made the glorious steel version, now using modern technologies in order to make it available in carbon fibre. The famous lower fin of the bottom bracket, together with the reduced sized middle sections of tubes increase the aerodynamics of the frame. The offset seat tube to the centre of the bottom bracket shell, allows the shortening the rear stays, making a finished build with this frame very snappy and responsive.
CNC MACHINED COMPONENTS An anodized CNC machined aluminium plate positioned under the fin of the bottom bracket allows easy access for routing the shifter cables. The rear CNC machined aluminium interchangeable dropouts sandwich a central carbon section fully integrated in the rear stays.
HISTORY Between 1981 and 1991, 300 Laser frames were hand built by Andrea Pesenti. More than 100 of these frames were built for professional athletes at the request of national federations. The Laser Mia still bears Pesenti’s signature on the inside of the chainstay. He has been forever nicknamed “Laserman” .
XCR The XCR is a shining example of the craftsmanship of the frames produced by Cinelli, made with the best materials and the highest technological quality. XCR is a seamless biphasic stainless steel tube, allowing the construction of a light, durable frame. The exclusive microscopic structure of XCR tubing has a particular elastic response, for unique handling that creates a more direct, spontaneous bond with the road, especially in downhill stretches at high speeds. This Columbus steel frame was developed in close partnership with the cult racer, bike messenger and adventurer Chas Christiansen. Chas travels extensively as well as racing alleycats, criteriums and cyclocross events. Chas set Cinelli the challenge to create a frame that could service all of these diverse needs, so the MASH Work was born.

The geometry of the MASH Work is aggressive by nature. A high bottom bracket gives additional clearance for fast cornering.

UNIQUE FINISH The frame has a distinct raw appearance. Adding a clear topcoat has preserved the weld heat markings on the steel. This treatment celebrates Columbus tubing, whom Cinelli are proud to call family.
DESIGN DETAILS MASH rider & graphic designer Garrett Chow took inspiration from Cinelli & Columbus’s historic logo designs and remixed them with MASH artwork to create opulent & timeless details to adorn the frame.
VIGORELLI Named after the famous Velodrome in Milan, the Vigorelli carries with it the sprit of the magical wooden boarded ellipse: “ellisse magica” and the ghosts of past hour records and world cycling championships. As ridden by the renowned Cinelli Chrome team, the Vigorelli is adorned with the same bold geometric colours as seen on the team’s kit. Constructed from Columbus Airplane tubing, the frame has been modified to give the rider immediate benefits. Features include a no-flex down tube as well as a conical seat tube, which has a larger diameter at the bottom bracket area. These modifications dramatically increase stiffness and pedalling efficiency. The premium Columbus Pista Leggera fork has a brand new tapered design for improved control. GAZZETTA DELLA STRADA Inspired by the heroic days of cycling in the 1950’s the Gazzetta Della Strada is reminiscent of a time when road racing still meant, potentially, unsurfaced roads and gravelly climbs. The Gazzetta Della Strada gives the contemporary rider stable handling and clearance for mudguards, whilst maintaining a short enough wheelbase for immediate response in accelerations, an all-together lively riding experience.
