Daily News… ALLEN REJECTS ‘UNTRUE AND DISGRACEFUL’ SEX ABUSE CLAIMS Legendary film director Woody Allen hit back Sunday at his adopted daughter’s allegations of sexual abuse during her youth, calling them «untrue and disgraceful.» In a strongly-worded statement, Allen’s New York publicist emphasized the filmmaker had never faced criminal charges over the claims and that experts at an earlier hearing had found there was no evidence of molestation. «Mr Allen has read the article and found it untrue and disgraceful,» publicist Leslee Dart said, adding that the director would be responding «very soon.» The statement came one day after Dylan Farrow, adopted by Allen during his relationship with actress Mia Farrow, spoke in detail for the first time about the alleged abuse inflicted on her by her father. In an open letter on a New York Times blog, the 28-year-old said she was abused by Allen as a seven-year-old. She suggested that other abuse may have started even earlier, saying: «For as long as I could remember, my father had been doing things to me that I didn’t like.» The unproven allegations first emerged in the aftermath of Allen’s acrimonious split with Mia Farrow in 1992. Dart stressed that an investigation by court-appointed independent experts at the time found no evidence of wrongdoing. «The experts concluded there was no credible evidence of molestation, that Dylan Farrow had an inability to distinguish between fantasy and reality, and that Dylan Farrow had likely been coached by her mother Mia Farrow,» Dart said. Allen, 78, left Mia Farrow after starting a relationship with the actress’s adopted daughter from a previous marriage, Soon-Yi Previn. A New York judge in the 1994 custody battle between Allen and Farrow ruled that the abuse allegations were inconclusive, but at the same time lambasted the director as «self-absorbed, untrustworthy and insensitive.»

International News… US GROUNDHOG PHIL SEES SHADOW In a colorful annual ritual of dubious accuracy, the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his burrow Sunday and saw his shadow, thus predicting six more weeks of winter. The Pennsylvania rodent is the most famous of the furry weather forecasters for «Groundhog Day,» an event with early roots in German folklore -- and rather more in US media showbiz. According to legend, if Phil had not seen his shadow then spring would soon be on its way. The proclamation, posted on the website groundhog.org, referred to Sunday’s other big event : the Super Bowl.
THE POWER OF TV Protesters in Kiev have come up with a novel way to torment riot police - blasting non-stop news from an opposition television channel projected onto a giant white sheet behind their barricade. The screen has been set up between two poles on the edge of a giant protest camp in central Kiev - just a few dozen metres from lines of riot police defending government buildings. The police are not taking the affront lying down and are striking back with a mix of World War II tunes and golden oldies by Soviet crooners. «We’ve got a good sound system, but their music is louder,» said a protester.

NOTICE TO CLIENTS OF THE PORT For the security of our clients, there are certain practises that should be respected in order to avoid serious accidents : - It is considered very dangerous to drop passengers off from dinghies at Saline, Governeur, Flamands and Grand Galet beaches. - Anchoring in the bay of Saint-Jean is limited. Anchoring in the same axis as the airport is strictly forbidden at all times. - The use of jet skis and scooters is forbidden within 300 meters (1000 feet) of the beach, the coastline, and within all zones of the Marine Park. - Maneuvering dinghies in the various bays around the island should be done carefully and in consideration of the swimmers. - The shooting of distress flares, fireworks and any other materials that might cause a fire is forbidden throughout the entire harbor area. The zone around the commercial dock is especially sensitive due to the stocking of combustible fuel. - All anchoring, at night and during the day, is forbidden in the acces chanel of the port. Please respect the speed limit of 3 knots when entering the port, and listen carefully to chanel VHF 16 (security messages). - The port office can be reached on VHF channel 12, every day from 7am to 6pm.
