Daily News… TOY PUTS EDWARD SNOWDEN IN THE CENTER OF THE ACTION Move over, GI Joe, there’s a new action figure in town: fugitive US intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden. ThatsMyFace.com, based in the Pacific Northwest state of Oregon, is marketing a 12-inch (30-centimeter) likeness of the former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor for $99, it said Tuesday on its website. It comes appropriately dressed in a blue shirt, casual trousers and black high-top basketball shoes, though grey-striped business suit, Indiana Jones and combat uniform options are available. Proceeds will go to the Freedom of the Press Foundation, a San Francisco-based non-profit that added Snowden -- currently living in asylum in Russia -- to its board of directors in January, ThatsMyFace.com said. But in an email to AFP, the foundation’s executive director Trevor Timm said the group -- whose board also includes Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame -- has never been contacted about the toy. «It’s not us selling the dolls, I’m actually not sure who is,» Timm said. «The first time I saw anything about it was when someone tweeted about it, and no one has contacted us about it since, to my knowledge.» ThatsMyFace.com, whose catalog of action figures also includes Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, did not immediately respond to a phone call and an email for comment. But it noted on its website: «Disclaimer: Edward Snowden and Freedom of the Press Foundation does not sponsor, authorize or endorse this site or our Edward Snowden figure.» Snowden’s disclosures since June have revealed the NSA’s vast electronic eavesdropping operations, sparking global outrage as well as warnings from US authorities that he could face espionage charges.

But when her name was typed into a database, it came back attached to an arrest warrant issued in September 2005 by a local magistrate at the request of a video shop -- no longer in business -- that claimed she failed to return a rented copy of «Monster-in-Law,» a comedy starring Fonda and Jennifer Lopez. Finley was detained overnight, before she appeared before a judge who released her on $2,000 personal recognizance bond, pending a court date.
CHINA SOLDIERS TOO BIG Chinese soldiers have become so much taller and fatter in recent years that they often find themselves cramped in tanks designed three decades ago, state media reported. A survey found that People’s Liberation Army troopers were on average two centimetres (0.8 inches) taller and five centimetres (two inches) fatter around the waist than 20 years ago, the military’s official PLA Daily reported Tuesday. As a result, it is harder for soldiers to squeeze into a tank designed for smaller personnel 30 years ago, it said. Rifle stocks are also too short for some, limiting their accuracy, it added.

Anchoring in the same axis as the airport is strictly forbidden at all times. - The use of jet skis and scooters is forbidden within 300 meters (1000 feet) of the beach, the coastline, and within all zones of the Marine Park. - Maneuvering dinghies in the various bays around the island should be done carefully and in consideration of the swimmers. - The shooting of distress flares, fireworks and any other materials that might cause a fire is forbidden throughout the entire harbor area. The zone around the commercial dock is especially sensitive due to the stocking of combustible fuel. - All anchoring, at night and during the day, is forbidden in the acces chanel of the port. Please respect the speed limit of 3 knots when entering the port, and listen carefully to chanel VHF 16 (security messages). - The port office can be reached on VHF channel 12, every day from 7am to 6pm. The whale season is starting its most intense period and it is important to report your observations to the Nature Reserve at this number: 0690 31 70 73. This information is transmitted to the scientists of the AGOA sanctuary for marine mammals which is at the initiative of France. A scientific monitoring of the AGOA will take place in the waters of St. Barths during the month of April, simul-
taneously with areas further south of the Antilles Arc. The objective is to estimate the population and to determine more accurately the migration routes. Remember that female whales move north with their baby that they breastfeed and educate. The migration lasts for two months and a half and ends in the cold waters of the northern hemisphere filled with krill. If you happen to see whales at sea, do not swim! Maintain a distance of 100 meters and a reduced speed. Thank you.

Our precious mangrove plays an important ecological role of interface between the land and the sea, with an exceptional filtering power, its role as a nursery for marine species has suffered. The guards have been busy during the holidays like every year with various offences. There are less Jet skis in the bay of Colombier but they remain our prime concern with speeding. The bay is busy and safety for everyone is important. No jet skis and a speed of 5 knots, it is legal and of common sense for bathers and turtles ! Another worry, the repeated and voluntary degradation of our parking signs for the vehicle of the Nature Reserve. We would like to sincerely congratulate the guards who patrolled tirelessly 7/7 in a spirit of prevention and information.
