Caitlyn, age 17, will be a senior in high school this year. Caitlyn’s encounter with Burkitt’s lymphoma was brief, intense and ultimately successful. She participated in Camp A.O.K. the last four years, one of the programs funded by the Children’s Art Project. Caitlyn learned that being bald was no big deal at camp as all the other kids understood – they were patients too. Caitlyn would like to become an anesthesiologist at MD Anderson so she can help patients the same way doctors once helped her. A

Kaden, age 10, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in his right tibia and recently completed rigorous treatments. During his therapy, he was always eager to create artwork with Mindy, the art teacher, in the hospital playroom. After creating the adorable design of a dog in a Santa hat, Kaden was thrilled to learn his piece was selected to be featured in the holiday collection. Kaden attended Camp Star Trails this summer for the first time, along with his brother and sister. The week long camp is offered to pediatric patients and their siblings to enjoy summer fun under the watchful care of hospital staff. Kaden was especially excited to try out the zip line, ride horses and go to art class.

Every summer, young cancer patients and their siblings attend Camp Star Trails for ages 5-12 or Camp A.O.K. (Anderson’s Older Kids) for ages 13-18, both overnight summer camp programs. At camp, siblings have the opportunity to share in all aspects of patient treatment and recreation.
