A Note From the Creators
Caleb Sigmon and Steven Levine
During these winter months, when we’re feeling festive and joyful, it’s a cliche to say that this season is about more than gift giving, but is that really true? As any child knows, gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Some are wrapped in bright, colorful paper adorned with bows. Some in recycled brown paper grocery bags, or newspaper. These days, some might even be wrapped in an Amazon gift bag.
Is there anything better than unwrapping presents on Christmas morning? Is there anything more exciting than sitting around the tree in our pajamas - hot chocolate for the kids, and coffee for their parents - anticipating what may be in those magical boxes, ribbons and paper flying through the air as their mystery is revealed? It’s hard to think of a more joyous tradition. But have you ever received a present that wasn’t wrapped at all?
We give gifts to those we love on a daily basis, and they are rarely wrapped. We give of ourselves: our time, our laughter, our tears, our attention. No wrapping paper. No Amazon gift bag. No gift receipt required. These gifts never break, or run out of batteries. They always fit, and seldom disappoint. The connections we make with one another are the most precious gift of all, and in the giving of these gifts we are gifted in return, for as Juliet says to Romeo at the end of the famous balcony scene:
The more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.
It is those unwrapped presents that Doggie on my Doorstep is about.
