Palabras del Director El Festival Internacional CHILEMONOS es la mayor plataforma de difusión y desarrollo de la animación chilena, dentro y fuera del país. En su tercera versión, CHILEMONOS trae varias novedades. Exhibiremos por primera vez una completa muestra de largometrajes animados latinoamericanos, elegidos especialmente para la familia. Simultáneo a Santiago, las muestras serán proyectadas en seis regiones de Chile, como Antofagasta, Atacama, Valparaíso, Los Lagos y Aysén. Dentro de las competencias incorporaremos la de “Escuela Internacional” y “Series Animadas Latinoamericanas”. Además, dentro de las exhibiciones se sumarán dos documentales: “Walt y el grupo” y “Persistence of visión”. En la búsqueda de crear nuevas audiencias, cinco mil niños a lo largo de todo Chile, que representan los espectadores del futuro, elegirán a la mejor serie latinoamericana animada. El festival expandirá su plataforma a través de dos nuevos medios, el programa de televisión CHILEANIMADO y la revista digital SOLOMONOS MAGAZINE. Ambos fomentarán el conocimiento masivo sobre la animación chilena.

The International Animation Festival CHILEMONOS is the biggest platform of diffusion and development of Chilean animation inside and out of the country. In its third version, CHILEMONOS has some new activities. We will show for the first time a complete exhibition of animated films from Latin America, specially chosen for a familiar public. At the same time that in Santiago, the exhibition will be shown in six different regions in Chile as Antofagasta, Atacama, Valparaíso, Los Lagos and Aysén. Inside the competition we will include “International Schools” and “Animated Series from Latin America”. Besides there will also be two documentaries: “Walt and the group” and “Persistence of vision”. In order to create more audiences, five thousand kids around whole Chile, who represent the spectators from the future, will choose the best animated series in Latin America. The festival will expand through new media: the TV program CHILEANIMADO and the digital magazine SOLOMONOS MAGAZINE. Both will promote the acknowledgement about Chilean animation.

Finalmente, estrenaremos la primera versión de MAI!, Mercado Animación Industria, que hará un énfasis en la conexión de la incipiente industria chilena con nuestro vecindario, donde podremos conocer a nuestros futuros socios, equipos de trabajo, coproductores, compradores y distribuidores, algo fundamental en esta fase de desarrollo.

At last, we will release the first version of the MAI! ANIMATION AND INDUSTRY MARKET, that will be focused on connections between Chilean industry and our neighbors, where we will be able to meet our future partners, team workers, producers, buyers and distributors, something very important in this development phase.

A DREAM

Soñemos e imaginemos que hoy en Chile se crearan las condiciones para realizar todos los años un largometraje de animación y series animadas para TV y con distribución internacional para poder llegar a todos los mercados del mundo, ¿Sería posible hacer algo así con los profesionales que hoy tenemos en nuestro país? Lo más cuerdo de pensar es lograrlo en un proceso gradual.

Let’s dream and imagine that in our days in Chile we could have the possibility to create every year an animated movie or TV series with international distribution to reach all the markets in the world. Would that be possible with the professionals we have today in our country? Being realistic, the best is to think that it will be a gradual process.

Si queremos hacer esto debemos ser capaces de crear una visión de país en conjunto, en donde la animación logre ser parte de nuestra estructura social y económica. Una industria que se nutre de profesionales capacitados de alto nivel. Las Universidades e Institutos técnicos tienen la misión de formar y construir. No basta con solo practicar la docencia basados en los conocimientos técnicos que esta disciplina ha desarrollado durante cien años y principalmente los últimos veinte. Debemos formar profesionales que comprendan el contexto, que propongan y creen nuevas realidades, trabajando en equipo y creando proyectos orientados al mercado mundial. Como dijo Walt, “Si puedes soñarlo, puedes hacerlo”. Espero en algún futuro no tan lejano poder comentar, como anfitrión académico del festival internacional de animación Chilemonos, los éxitos de nuestros proyectos de animación en el mundo entero. If we want to achieve that, we must create a vision of the country himself, where the animation may be part of our social and economic structure. An industry that thrives from qualified professionals. The Universities and Techniques Schools have the mission of build and form. It’s not enough just to practice teaching based on our acknowledgment during a hundred years especially those last twenty. We must form professionals that understand the context, that extend and believe in new realities, working together and creating projects oriented to the model market. As Walt said, “If you can dream it, you can do it”. I hope in a closer future being able to comment, as a host of the international animated festival CHILEMONOS, the success of our animation projects in the whole world.

Para la imagen del festival de este año tuve la idea de crear un elemento central de carácter totémico. Como ya sabemos, los tótem son muy reconocidos gracias a la cultura indígena norteamericana, pero también existen tótems en culturas mucho más cercanas como la Mapuche. El rehue por ejemplo, un pequeño tótem tallado en madera, simboliza la conexión con el cosmos y es utilizado en celebraciones de gran importancia. Por su parte, los indígenas norteamericanos solían representar animales a los que atribuían fuerzas sobrenaturales o destacar los diferentes niveles de la vida. Pero más allá de su propio simbolismo, los tótems me interesan como elementos que suelen congregar a la gente a su alrededor, por lo general para rendir culto a alguna fuerza superior y en este caso me pareció adecuada la idea de una tribu que durante una semana se reunirá a su alrededor para rendir culto a películas de animación. Para el diseño de este tótem recurrí a elementos que suelo utilizar en buena parte de mi trabajo como son las piezas mecánicas, filigranas, cuernos y ojos, que en este caso representan en su conjunto un gran proyector de cine algo peculiar. Al trabajar con siluetas negras sobre fondos de color plano, el contraste de cada pieza se acentúa mucho más, consiguiendo líneas muy definidas. Personalmente, creo que el ojo que corona el tótem es el elemento más importante, porque aunque limitado como un cíclope, nunca deja de mirar.

For the festival image of this year I had the idea to create a main element with an ecumenical character. As we know, the totems are well known thanks to the North American Indian culture, but there are also totems in many closer cultures as the Mapuche. The “rehue” for example, a small totem raving on wood symbolized the connection with the cosmos and it’s used in important celebrations. On their side, the north American Indians used to represent animals to which they attributed supernatural forces or show important aspects in life. But beyond their own symbolism, I’m interested in totem as elements that gather people around, in general to worship to a supernatural force and in that case it looks to me that the idea of a tribe that for one week will worship to animation films, will fit perfectly. For the design I took elements that I use in my work as mechanic pieces, watermarks, horns, eyes which in that case represent a big movie projector. Working with black silhouettes above backgrounds, the controls of each piece its more divine. Personally I think that the eye that crown the totem it’s the most important element, because even limited as a Cyclops, it never stops looking.

Curadores Curators Marcelo Varas

Creador y director de la carrera de animación digital de la Universidad Mayor. Ha dedicado su carrera profesional al desarrollo artístico y productivo de la animación en Chile.

Animador, ha trabajado en publicidad destacando “El perro azul de Flogojet” y los personajes “Huesitos de Soprole”, las películas “Mampato” y “Papelucho”. Actualmente está trabajando en su largometraje “La piedra de los espíritus”.

Creador y productor de piezas Animadas que han participado en la selección oficial de los más importantes festivales de Cine animación. Fundador y director creativo de la productora de cine de animación ICONOANIMA.

20 años de experiencia en animación, ha trabajado en estudios como: Cineanimadores, Animationworks, entre otros. Experiencia en Largometrajes, series de TV y publicidad. Docente Universidad Mayor e Instituto Arcos, Jurado en FIDA Chile 2013.

Felipe Verdugo

Estudió Licenciatura en Artes en la U de Chile, trabajó en Cineanimadores y actualmente es docente de Animación Digital en la UDLA. Como realizador el año 2012 estrenó su primer cortometraje “Arte de papas”.

Aunque actualmente Felipe se encuentra en Vancouver, no ha dejado de estar presente en el desarrollo de la industria 3D en Chile, tanto a nivel educacional, productoras y apoyando festivales de animación.

Director de Stop Motion en Zumbástico Studios. Director de los cortometrajes “El Almohadón de Plumas” y “La Noche Boca Arriba”. Actualmente Codirige la Obra “Un poco Invisible” en Maleza Studio y la serie “Puerto Papel” en Zumbástico Studios.

Director y guionista, ha creado y dirigido varias series de animación y cortometrajes, entre ellos la serie “Diego y Glot”. Actualmente trabaja en varios proyectos animados con su productora La Nave.

Animador, Diseñador gráfico, Docente IP Arcos, con experiencia en historieta, ilustración y cómic. Más de 12 años en las diferentes etapas de pre-producción y producción de dibujos animados para TV, cine y publicidad.

Diseñadora, ilustradora y directora audiovisual, dirige la productora Pájaro donde ha desarrollado su trabajo en animación, como las series “Clarita”, “Helados”, “Hostal Morrison” y “Chanchiperri”.

Artista plástico, Director Animachile. Desde el año 1988 se desempeña como académico en la Facultad de Arte de la Universidad de Playa Ancha Valparaíso.

Enrique Ocampo es animador para Chileanimación desde 1998. Desde el 2007 es director de animación y arte en Cineanimadores y profesor de cine de Animación en la Universidad Mayor. En el 2011 es co-fundador de GONG! estudio de animación.

Directora independiente de animación, enfoque en contenidos científicos, documentales y comerciales. Desde 2004 ha creado proyectos de animación para televisión abierta y web. Actual docente del ICEI (Universidad de Chile).

Leo Beltrán

Director independiente de arte y animación. Ha dirigido y participado en series de TV, videoclips, spots comerciales y cortometrajes desde el 2003. Profesor de taller 2D Animación digital UDLA..

Periodista y comunicador audiovisual. Es la encargada de programación de Novasur, Televisión cultural y educativa de CNTV. Además, asesora y supervisa las producciones audiovisuales que se realizan para la parrilla.

Pablo Castillo

Publicista, guionista, director. Con experiencia en creación y adaptación de contenidos para cine y televisión. Creador de “Villa Dulce”, primera serie animada chilena, y escritor y adaptador de otros formatos de animación, como también live action.

Dibujante y animador Chileno. Entre sus logros destacados en el campo de la excelencia se encuentran la bella y desconocida serie “El sorprendente Ombligo de Edgar” y el cortometraje animado “Miltín”.

Julio inicia en la animación con la serie “Villa Dulce”, ha dirigido proyectos como “Don Floridor”, “Pulentos, la película” y “Renata”. El 2013 estrena su cortometraje “The Gift”, el cual ha sido seleccionado en más de veinte festivales en el mundo.

Animador independiente, creador de cortometrajes “Con Sabor a Cuchuflí”, “Choripán”, “Hijo de Dios” y series de TV como “Cuchuflí” y “Choripán” .

Un recorrido melancólico a través de un paisaje inexistente, inspirado en los paisajes del sur de Chile especialmente de la flora y fauna de la Patagonia, lugares que visité durante mi infancia y otros provenientes del imaginario.

Cazadores Neolíticos van tras una manada de mastodontes por el Norte de Chile. Atacados por una tormenta de nieve, solo sobrevive el joven e inexperto TIGMANEN, que escapa hasta encontrar a marfileros nórdicos. De regreso, se le revela la circularidad del tiempo.

Las balas salen de las carnes, es una femenina, un discurso poético, casi fábula en reversa, sobre el cuidado medio ambiente, los derechos humanos impredecible naturaleza humana.

An atmospheric piece, which has been inspired by the landscapes of southern Chile, specially the flora and fauna from Patagonia. Places that I had visited in my childhood and others that I had imagined.

Neolithic hunters walk with a pack of mastodons in the North of Chile. Caught in the middle of a snowstorm, only the young and inexperienced TIGMANEN can survive. He encounters a group of Nordic sailors and as he returns, the circular nature of time is revealed.

“Bullets come up from the Flesh” is a female voice, a poetic speech, a fable in reverse, about environmental protection, human rights and the unpredictable human nature.

Un viejo oso sale todos los días a la misma esquina, para montar un espectáculo callejero con un pequeño teatro que el mismo ha construido, lleno de marionetas de hojalata. Los transeúntes pueden ver la historia de un oso de circo que fue separado de su familia y su viaje para volver a casa. An old bear goes out everyday to the same street corner and displace a small mechanical theatre that he built himself, full of tin marionettes and grinding wheels. Passerbys peek inside to learn the story of a cirkus bear that was separeted from his family, and his journey back home.

We consider that is a necessary format and very relevant, not only for the children and young audiences but also for the adults. The variety of colors, techniques and rhythms allowed to captivate spectators and made the contents more enjoyable and attractive. We can tell stories, promote values and support scholar items, showing in a more simple way and inviting to create, imagine and learn. Another time this year, Novasur takes part at the important festival Chilemonos, supporting the shows for children at regions. Simon’s Cat Sólo en blanco y negro es el requerimiento visual que mantiene esta serie animada inglesa “Simon’s Cat”, “El Gato de Simon”, un felino con diferentes aventuras y que tiene un dueño llamado Simon.

Just Black and White is the visual requirement that holds this animated English series “Simon’s Cat” a feline with many adventures that has an owner called Simon.

Realizada por Simon Tofield, amante de los gatos, puesto que vive con cuatro de estos felinos, comenzó a transmitirse en un principio por Youtube, a partir de marzo de 2008 en su primer capítulo “Cat Man Do”.

Simon Tofield is a cat lover who lives with four of those felines; he started to broadcast “Simon’s Cat” on YouTube on March 2008 with the first chapter “Cat Man Do”.

Tal fue el éxito de la serie que este producto se lanzó en formato libro y que en la actualidad está disponible en más de 25 países en el mundo. Sumado a esto, mantiene una sección en el diario Daily Mirror, mientras que Walt Disney comenzó a transmitir sus capítulos a través de su canal de televisión. En el Festival Internacional CHILEMONOS 2014 realizaremos una presentación especial de “Simon’s Cat” a través de dos piezas: Un mini documental de la serie y un capítulo del mismo. Con ello, rendiremos tributo a esta serie animada que, a través de una técnica de flip-book, nos muestra a este encantador gato con una aventura diferente. Esta presentación especial de la serie de “Simon’s Cat” se realizará en la apertura del festival.

After the success of this product a book was launched and nowadays is available in 25 countries in the world. Besides, it has a section on the Daily Mirror while Walt Disney started to broadcast his chapters through his TV channel. At CHILEMONOS 2014 we will have a special exhibition dedicated to “Simon’s Cat” through two pieces: a short documentary and a chapter by itself. With that we will pay tribute to this series that, with the flip-book technique, show us this lovely cat’s adventures. This special presentation will be settled at the inauguration.

The sequel to the science fiction novel of the same name, written and published by journalist Hugo Silva. Set in 2314, this series tells the adventures of Inti, inhabitant of the mythic PachaPulai, a lost city of gold near Antofagasta. The city manages to escape discovery by Julian, a descendant of Lieutenant Bello, who has to solve a problema that his grandfather started many years before.

L’École de la Cambre La formación del departamento de animación en École Nationale Supérieure Des Arts Visuels de La Cambre, proporciona un alto nivel de educación artística, que se traduce en el desarrollo de la sensibilidad artística y personal de los estudiantes, acompañada de práctica de técnicas específicas de animación.

La especialidad de Cine de animación fue fundada hace 50 años y tiene una reputación indiscutible en el centro internacional Escuela Nacional Superior de Arte y Diseño de La Cambre.

Entre sus líneas de trabajo se encuentran: la producción de cortos animados utilizando las técnicas básicas del cine, la imagen de dibujos en papel, desconexión de elementos, trabajo con muñecos, objetos animados, modelado en arcilla, arena, pixelación, con el apoyo de diversas técnicas contemporáneas y tecnologías. La escuela tiene como objetivo formar animadores capaces de integrar el mundo profesional, así como el artístico, desarrollando las singularidades del alumnado. De este modo, se han educado generaciones orientados al cine experimental, de investigación y en el trabajo de “cine arte”. El Proyecto educativo está basado en la experimentación personal. Con enseñanza artística, enseñanza general (filosofía, semiótica, historia del arte ) y la formación en las técnicas del cine de animación: animación, dirección, sonido, etc.

The department of animation at École Nationale supérieure des art visuels at La Cambre, gives a high level of artistic education that shows the development of artistic sensibility and personal from the students, with also practical courses of specific animation techniques. The degree of animation cinema was founded 50 years ago and has an undisputed reputation in the international National Art and Design School from La Cambre. Among their goals of work you can find: animated short film production using basic cinema techniques, drawing in paper, different elements, work with puppets, animated objects, clay modeling, sand, pixilation and the support of several modern techniques and technologies. The school educates animators that can be able to fit in the professional market as in the artistic, developing their different skills; in that way there have been professionals oriented to experimental cinema, investigation and “ciné-art”. The educative project is based on personal experiment. It combines the artistic and also general teaching (philosophy, semiotic, history of art…) with the learning of different animation techniques: animation, direction, sound, etc.

Este trabajo fue premiado el año 2012 con el Premio Trailer de Oro, en la categoría de trailer de videojuego.

Hoy es Supervisor CG de Platige Image y nos expondrá sobre la cinemática de videojuegos y su experiencia en el modelado de personajes, a través de un Laboratorio y Clase Magistral.

The creator of the cinematic from the successful video game “Assassin’s Creed” will present an exclusive exhibition at CHILEMONOS 2014, with a selection of their best works in this animation field, including: “Halo”, “Prince of Persia”, “Castlevania”, “Assassins Creed” and his recent work “Watch Dogs Exposed”.

Uno de los primeros pasos de este estudio fue en 2001 cuando los primeros miembros se unieron a la empresa de videojuegos llamado Black Hole Entertainment, en donde mantenían un departamento especializado en cinemática para videojuego. Desde sus inicios, comenzaron a mostrar el talento sobre la animación, destacando en los detalles y lo real de los personajes en la cinemática del videojuego Armies of Exigo, y que permitió que por primera vez un estudio húngaro fuera reconocido internacionalmente, llegando a la selección de Electronic Theater.

One of the first steps of this study was in 2001 when the firs members join themselves into the company Black Hole Entertainment, where they held a department specialized in cinematic for video games. From the beginning, they started to show their talent on animation, highlighting on details and realism of the characters at “Armies of Exigo”, what allowed for the first time to an Hungarian studio being known internationally and selected at the Electronic Theater.

Con más de 10 años de trayectoria, Digic Pictures se ha destacado en el desarrollo de animación en 3D, creando personajes de impactante realismo y finos detalles. SE-MA-FOR La historia de la animación polaca ha estado unida por décadas al Estudio SE-MA-FOR fundado en la ciudad de Lodz en 1947.

The history of polish animation has been united for decades to SE-MAFOR studio, founded in the Lodz city in 1947.

Sus cortometrajes han sido desarrollados tradicionalmente en técnica stop-motion. En febrero de 2008, uno de sus cortos de animación “Pedro y el Lobo”, recibió un Oscar de la Academia al Mejor Cortometraje Animado. Este fue el segundo cortometraje ganador de ese premio realizado por el estudio, puesto que el primero fue en la misma categoría en 1983 llamado “Tango” de Zbigniew Rybczynski.

Their animated short films have been developed usually by stop motion technique. On February 2008, one of their short films “Pedro and the Wolf” received the Oscar for Best Animated Short film. That was the second awarded short film released by the studio, as the first was in the same category in1983 for “Tango” by Zbigniew Rybczynski.

Para este festival CHILEMONOS 2014 estarán Luc Toutounghi Productor y CEO en SE – MA – FOR, junto con Agnieszka KowalewskaSkowron, Marta Mekarska, Justyna Radziej, Piotr Ficner, quienes realizarán dos workshops sobre animación infantil, uno de ellos dirigido para estudiantes de animación, y el segundo para niños.

Además, contaremos con las muestras de SE-MA-FOR en las que tendremos animación para niños, clásicos de SE-MA-FOR, muestra experimental SE-MA-FOR, generación joven de SE-MA-FOR y grandes Maestros de SEMAFOR.

For this edition the festival will receive Luc Toutounghi, Producer and CEO at SE-MA-FOR, together with Agnieszka Kowalewska-Skowron, Marta Mekarska, Justyna Radziej, Piotr Ficner, who will give two workshops about animation for children, one of them focused on animation students, and the second one for kids. Durante el último tiempo hemos observado cómo ha aumentado exponencialmente la producción de la animación en Latinoamérica. Con esfuerzo de las propias casas productoras o gracias a las alianzas en coproducción que han establecido, obtuvieron el financiamiento con el cual han logrado mover y crear una industria en la región.

For the past few years we have been able to see how the production of Latin-American animation has specially being increased. With big efforts from the production companies and thanks to the co-production agreements, they had the founding in which they have accomplished to move and create an industry in the region.

Por ello, el Festival Internacional CHILEMONOS 2014 ha tomado la iniciativa de convocar a los festivales de animación más relevantes del continente, tales como Animamundi (Brasil), CutOut Fest (México), AXIS fest (México), ExpoToons (Argentina) y Anima Córdoba (Argentina), para constituir la primera Red de Festivales Latinoamericanos de Animación.

That’s why, International Festival CHILEMONOS 2014 has decided to meet with the most important animation festivals from the continent, as Animamundi (Brasil), CutOut Fest (Mexico), AXIS fest (México), ExpoToons (Argentina) and Anima Córdoba (Argentina) to build the first Network of Animation Festivals from Latinoamerica.

La intención de esta iniciativa es levantar una plataforma de colaboración entre todos estos festivales, para fortalecer los lazos, y ayudar aún más al desarrollo y talento artístico que existe en los países, y con ello fomentar la industria de animación latinoamericana.

The purpose of this initiative is to create a collaboration platform among all these festivals so as to strengthen our bonds and further promote the development of the artistic assets all our countries posses while, at the same time, promoting the animation industry of Latin America.

Una forma pragmática de reflejarlo será la exhibición de los mejores cortometrajes ganadores de los respectivos festivales. Con ello se pretende difundir las tendencias que rondan en los diversos países, con el propósito de conocer nuestras habilidades artísticas y culturales.

There will be an exhibition with awarded short films from each festival. We have intentions to promote the different tendencies that travel in the every country with the purpose of knowing our artistic and cultural abilities.

Además, en la inauguración de MAI! MERCADO DE ANIMACION E INDUSTRIA, 1° Plataforma para la Coproducción de Animación Latinoamericana en Chile, permitirá conocer a las productoras independientes y a los destacados animadores de Latinoamérica.

Besides, with MAI! ANIMATION AND INDUSTRY MARKET we will build the 1º platform for the co-production of Latin-American animation in Chile that will allow to thecompanies from the whole continent to meet each other.

El Chavo Animado

En 1972 se presentaba por primera vez “El Chavo del 8”. El programa tuvo alcances insospechados, llegando a todos los televisores de Latinoamérica, España e, incluso, Estados Unidos. La sitcom se convirtió en una de las series más vistas de México, convergiendo más de 350 millones de telespectadores. Televisa se planteó un nuevo desafío y convirtió a esta exitosa serie en animación, la cual va en su tercera temporada, siendo un producto de calidad y entretenido para los más pequeños, que han podido acercarse a esta serie que era vista por sus padres, y que hoy la entienden desde su propio lenguaje y contexto. Esto se vincula a la responsabilidad social de CHILEMONOS, pues es en la formación de audiencias donde se fortalece la industria y el nivel cultural de un país, incorporando la animación como forma de creación, que genera una reflexión sobre los valores que sostienen a una sociedad. Alberto Rodríguez en este caso, presentará tres capítulos de la serie “El Chavo animado” a los niños de enseñanza básica de colegios de la capital.

This year, CHILEMONOS and NOVASUR together with CNTV present an academic activity in order to create audiences called “Going to the movies with the director”. The successful animated series “El chavo”, an adaptation from the mytic sitcom “El chavo del ocho” will be presented by its filmmaker, Alberto Rodríguez. In 1972 it was present for the first time “El Chavo Del 8”. The sitcom had unsuspected success, reaching whole televisions in Latin America, Spain and even the United States. The sitcom became one of the most seen series at México, having more than 350 million of spectators. Televisa proposed a new challenge and turned this successful sitcom in animation, which is now on its third season, and has become a quality and funny product for children, who have been able to get closer to this series that was watched by their parents and that today can be understand with their own language and context. This activity takes part in the social responsibility of CHILEMONOS, because in the audiences creation we impulse the industry and the cultural level in a country, including animation as a way of creation, that generates thoughts about the values that hold a society. Alberto Rodríguez in that case, will present three chapters from the animated series “El chavo animado” to young children from schools of Santiago de Chile.

Master Class: Jossie malis “Bendita independencia y no morir en el intento” Jossie malis realizará la clase magistral “Bendita independencia y no morir en el intento”, explicando su trayectoria como director de su estudio Zumbakamera. In this Master Class, Grzegorz will share his experience that went from being character modeler, through character animation, technical director, lighting artist and cg supervising to the position of Head of CG at one of the biggest animation studio in Europe.

LAB: Grzegorz Kukus / Platige Image Shading y Rendering “Evitando el valle inquietante” El Lab se focalizará en el arte de “shading” y “render” en Arnold para Maya. Como caso de estudio Greg utilizará la última cinemática de Platige “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”, junto a otros proyectos. Durante este Lab práctico, los participantes podrán desarrollar sus habilidades, trabajando en proyectos reales, bajo la supervisión de Greg.

The LAB will focus on the art of shading and rendering in Arnold for Maya. As a case study Greg will use Platige latest cinematic hit “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” and some other projects. During this task oriented workshop the participants will get the chance to develop their skills by working under the guidance and supervision of Greg.

LAB: Alain Sace “Lecture” Alain Sace, animador-realizador, docente de la École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre, de Bruselas, Bélgica, realizará el laboratorio “Lecture: Clínica de proyectos de estudiantes en proceso de título”. Consiste en la revisión de proyectos de título de estudiantes de último año de animación.

Alain Sace, animator-director, teacher at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels of La Cambre at Brussels, Belgium will give a lab called “Lecture: Clinique of animation degree projects”. It consists in the revision of the final projects from students at their last year on animation school.

The best of European stop motion and Latin American will merge in an interesting conversation, representing the polish studio SE-MA-FOR, the successful generation of Mexican stop-motion. – René Castillo and Luis Téllez -, together with Chileans animators, will be representing the old and new generations of animation.

Taller: Lisette Freire “Pintandomonos” Después de asistir a la proyección de la película “Rodencia y el diente de la princesa”, su artista conceptual, Lisette Freire, invitará a los niños asistentes a un entretenido taller, donde podrán colorear los personajes de la película. Luego, con cada dibujo, los niños podrán contar la historia que ellos quieran, acercándose así a los principios de la animación.

After the exhibition of the film “Rodencia and the princess tooth”, the conceptual artist Lisette Freire will invite the children to a funny workshop where they will be able to color the characters from the movie. After that, with each draw the kids will tell the story they want getting close to the basic tips in animation.

Taller para niños: SE-MA-FOR “Anímate con SE-MA-FOR” Este taller para niños desarrollado por el Museo de animación de Se-ma-for, se ha realizado numerosas veces en Polonia. Basado en los poemas de Magdalena Mrozinski, los niños crearán una serie de cortos animados inspirados en la mitología eslava. Los participantes aprenderán con la técnica del Stop Motion diferentes tipos de animación.

This workshop for children it has been developed by Se-ma-for Museum of Animation, it has been made several times in Poland. Based on Magdalena Mrozinski’s poems, children will create series of short animated films about a Slavic mythology. Participants will be learn with the technique of stopmotion animation, different types of animation.

Unlike traditional screenwriting advice that often encourages rigid formulas and structured outlines, Wood believes we are at our creative best when writing intuitively, much in the way expert improvisers work on stage.

Entre los estudios independientes más destacados en Europa figura Zumbakamera, el cual en su trayectoria de 10 años, ha conquistado a importantes clientes de diversas regiones del mundo, como Movistar, la Universidad de Stanford y Universal Music, manteniendo a la vez una presencia importante de su trabajo personal en prestigiosos festivales internacionales. The projection of independent animation studios is the challenge that most animator accepts and confronts in a vulnerable and globalized market. The strategies of survival aren’t many and not everyone knows them. Between the most relevant independent studios there is Zumbakamera, with 10 years of experience, he has conquered important clients in different places in the world as Movistar, Standford University and Universal Music; always keeping his presence with his personal work at international festivals. At this master class the director will present his personal methods, sharing their own strategies to confront the globalized market, focusing in new ways to connect with the international clients and trying new financing ways as crowdfunding through kickstarter. Más de 30 años después de conquistar las pantallas del mundo, Televisa, quien ha sido la casa televisiva del Chavo desde un comienzo, decidió junto a Ánima Estudios y el director Alberto Rodríguez, emprender un nuevo desafío: llevar esta insigne serie al lenguaje de la animación.

One of the most important series in our continent is “El chavo del 8”. After more than 30 years of success in the whole world, Televisa, the channel that host “El chavo” since the beginning decided together with Anima Estudios and Alberto Rodríguez to start a new challenge: take this myth to the animation.

En una revisión del trayecto de la serie, desde su creación hasta sus últimas temporadas, traspaso a transmedia y diversificación en merchandising, exploraremos de la mano de su director los procesos creativos, estrategias y enfoques particulares, que hicieron posible capitalizar en una serie animada a un personaje que es parte del patrimonio cultural latinoamericano.

Rene Castillo is an icon of the stop-motion in his country, México. Using the technique of clay animation, he had made the short films “Sin Sostén” and “Hasta los Huesos”, which have won several international awards as Gold Palm, including one in his own country: Ariel to the Best Animated Short Film in 1998. He was also at the Oficial Selection in Cannes.

Grzegorz Kukus CLASE MAGISTRAL: “LA CINEMÁTICA COMO ELEMENTO PARA GENERAR REALIDAD EN LOS VIDEOJUEGOS”. Existen variados factores que hacen de un videojuego un producto de calidad. Entre estos las cinemáticas se instalan como un factor fundamental a la hora de darle el aspecto visual de la realidad a un videojuego. En esta Clase Magistral, Grzegorz compartirá su experiencia que cruza desde el modelado y animación de personajes, director técnico, artista de iluminación y supervisor de CG hasta situarse como director de CG en uno de los más grandes estudios de animación en Europa. LAB: SHADING Y RENDERING “EVITANDO EL VALLE INQUIETANTE”. El Lab se focalizará en el arte de “shading” y “render” en Arnold para Maya. Como caso de estudio Greg utilizará la última cinemática de Platige “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”, junto a otros proyectos. Durante éste Lab práctico los participantes podrán desarrollar sus habilidades trabajando en proyectos reales bajo la supervisión de Greg. El principal objetivo será enseñar a los artistas de CG a utilizar en su beneficio esta tecnología mejorando sus habilidades y desarrollando su creatividad.

Belonging to a talent group at the polish studio Platige Image, this animator is well-known by his character modeling to the cinematics on videogames at “The Witcher”. Besides, he has been the CG Supervisor of the children animation “Hero and the message”. MASTER CLASS: “CINEMATIC AS AN ELEMENT TO CREATE REALITY ON VIDEOGAMES” There are lots of factors that make a videogame a quality product. Among them, cinematic have installed as a main factor regarding the visual aspect of reality on a video game. In this Master Class, Grzegorz will share his experience that went from being character modeler, through character animation, technical director, lighting artist and cg supervising to the position of Head of CG at one of the biggest animation studio in Europe. LAB: SHADING AND RENDERING “AVOIDING THE UNCANNY VALLEY” The LAB will focus on the art of shading and rendering in Arnold for Maya. As a case study Greg will use Platige latest cinematic hit “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” and some other projects. During this task oriented workshop the participants will get the chance to develop their skills by working on real-project-materials under the guidance and supervision of Greg. Main goal of the class will be teaching the CG artists how can they use the technology to their benefit and by improving their skills be more creative. The workshop will also try to focus on the importance of making rendering efficient in visual aspect as well as time-wise.

Su último logro fue como Director de Arte de la película animada 3D “Metegol”, que obtuvo premio Goya como “Mejor Película Animada”.

Nelson Luty has an impressive portfolio in design of backgrounds and animation. He has collaborated in short stories in Europe and United States and has more than 5 animated movies in his experience. His last achievement was as Art Director in the animated movie 3D “Underdogs” which received the Goya award as “Best Animated Film”.

El concept art es una pieza fundamental en el desarrollo de un largometraje animado. En éste se condensa tanto la idea original como los lineamientos estéticos, que darán el punto de partida al trabajo de dirección de arte. Para Nelson Luty, destacado director de arte a cargo de este laboratorio, existen tres aspectos fundamentales en el desarrollo de un concept art: composición, perspectiva e iluminación.

The concept art is a fundamental piece in the development of an animation movie. The concept art merges the original idea and esthetic intentions which will give a starting point to the work of the Art Director. For Nelson Luty, relevant art director heading this lab, there are three fundamental aspects on the development of a concept art: compose perspective and lighting.

A través de un laboratorio de animación intensivo de tres jornadas, los asistentes trabajarán de forma práctica con materiales de dibujo, a través de estos tres aspectos claves del Concept art. Además, se explorará en torno al manejo de backgrounds y multiplanos, en la realización de fondos en un largometraje animado.

Through a three days animation lab, the assistants will work with draw materials, working on those three aspects of Concept Art. Besides, they will explore the use of backgrounds and multiplanes in an animation film.

Professional animator and director, teacher at the École Nationale Supérieure des Art Visuels at La Cambre in Brussels, Belgium, which is one of the most important animation school in the country. It has a huge experience as independent director with animated works in advertisement.

Este laboratorio consiste en la revisión de proyectos de título pertenecientes a estudiantes de último año de las carreras de animación de nuestro país. A través de un laboratorio personalizado, los estudiantes podrán obtener una valiosa retroalimentación, que les permitirá perfilar sus proyectos desde la óptica de una de las escuelas de animación más prestigiosas del mundo. La Cambre, tiene actualmente cerca de 700 estudiantes los cuales pueden optar por 17 salidas profesionales, muchas de ellas son especialidades únicas en Europa, por lo que cada docente perteneciente a esta escuela mantiene un alto nivel de calidad y actualización de las últimas técnicas de animación mundial.

In this Lab the last year students of animation in our country will be able to receive a revision of their work with Alain Sace. Through an individual lab, the students will get a feedback of their works which will allow them to outline their projects with the look of one of the most important animation schools in the world. La Cambre has actually almost 700 students, which can have 17 different professional projections, most of them are specialties unique in Europe, so each teacher at this school maintains a huge quality level and updates of the latest techniques in animation. Alain Sace will show a retrospective of his work and experience as a teacher giving us a first level animation course.

WORKSHOP PARA ESTUDIANTES DE ANIMACIÓN: ANIMANDO MUÑECOS CON SE-MA-FOR

Workshop de stop motion que busca desarrollar habilidades adicionales en los estudiantes, dándoles la oportunidad de trabajar con experimentados artistas polacos. Durante un trabajo de dos días, los asistentes podrán aprender los principios básicos de la animación de muñecos, donde podrán animar diversas fases de movimientos. El Workshop se enfocará en los siguientes temas: animación de objetos, acting de muñecos y animación de escenas de grupo. Esta actividad será conducida por animadores de SE-MA-FOR que actualmente trabajan en la serie de TV: “Flapper y sus amigos”. TALLER PARA NIÑOS: ANÍMATE CON SE-MA-FOR Este taller para niños desarrollado por el Museo de animación de Se-ma-for, se ha realizado numerosas veces en Polonia. Basado en los poemas de Magdalena Mrozinski, los niños crearán una serie de cortos animados inspirados en la mitología eslava. Los participantes aprenderán con la técnica del Stop Motion diferentes tipos de animación. La actividad será conducida por Justine Radziej, graduada de la Academia de Bellas Artes de Lodz ha realizado durante 3 años talleres para niños, jóvenes y adultos.

This animation studio from Poland is one of the oldest and more succesful in Europe with their animation in stop motion. Their experience and talent have take SE-MA-FOR to beign awarded with two OSCAR in 1982 for “Tango” and 2008 for “Peter and the Wolf” WORKSHOP FOR ANIMATION STUDENTS: ANIMATING PUPPETS WITH SE-MA-FOR. Stop Motion workshop that aims to develop additional skills in the students, providing the opportunity of working with experienced artists in Polish. During the two-day workshop, they will learn the basic principles of puppet animation; where they will animate several phases motion. The workshop will focus on one selected theme: the animation of the object, puppets acting, animation scenes group. Classes will be taught by SE-MA-FOR’s animators who are working in the TV series “Flapper and Friends “. WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN: GET ANIMATED WITH SE-MA-FOR. This workshop for children it has been developed by Se-ma-for Museum of Animation, it has been made several times in Poland. Based on Magdalena Mrozinski’s poems, children will create series of short animated films about a Slavic mythology. Participants will be learn with the technique of stop-motion animation, different types of animation. The workshop will be conducted by Justine Radziej, graduate from Łódz Academy of Fine Arts, she has taught during three years workshops for children, young and adult people.

Primer Encuentro Internacional de Stop-Motion

Entre estos, tendremos al círculo polaco, compuesto por el destacado estudio de animación SE – MA – FOR, quienes han llevado a las técnicas y realizaciones en stop-motion a un alto nivel en Europa, como las ganadoras del Oscar como Mejor Cortometraje Animado, “Tango” (1982) y “Pedro y el Lobo” (2008). Además, nos acompañará la exitosa generación de stop-motion mexicano, compuesta por el animador René Castillo director del célebre cortometraje “Hasta los Huesos”, junto a Luis Téllez, productor de “Jacinta” y “La Noria”, obras multipremiadas a nivel internacional. Asimismo, a nivel nacional, contaremos con la presencia de destacados realizadores chilenos, representando a las antiguas y nuevas generaciones de animadores dedicados a esta técnica. Gracias a este nivel de animadores, este encuentro se nutrirá de las últimas tendencias del stop-motion y permitirá conocer los avances sobre la técnica, tanto en Europa como en América Latina.

The best of the European and Latin American stop motion will meet in a conversation about techniques, represented by different directors. We will have a polish circle, compose by the well-known animation studio SE-MA-FOR, who have bring the techniques in stop motion to a high level in Europe, as “Tango” (1982) and “Pedro and the Wolf” (2008), both Oscar awarded to Best Animated Short Film. Besides, we will be joined by the successful Mexican stop-motion generation, composed by the animator René Castillo, relevant director of the famous short film “Hasta los Huesos” with Luis Téllez, producer of “Jacinta” and “La noria”, internationally awarded. We will also have the presence of relevant Chileans directors, representing the old and new generation of animators in this technique. Thanks to them, this meeting will have the latest updates of stop-motion and will allow knowing new popular techniques in Europe and South America.

La selección de piezas escogidas para esta exposición ha buscado entregar un panorama de la diversidad de técnicas y estilos presentes en los creadores de animación contemporáneos del país. Con este objetivo en mente seleccionamos material de imágenes de tres obras de animación que destacan por su calidad visual y particular estética. Los trabajos que conforman esta exposición son: - “Pachapulai” de Erwin Gómez (Spondylus Producciones), Secuela de la novela de ciencia ficción homónima, escrita y publicada por el periodista Hugo Silva. Ambientada en el 2314, esta serie narra las aventuras de Inti, habitante de la mítica PachaPulai. - “Historia de un oso”, de Gabriel Osorio (Punk Robot), cuenta la historia de un viejo oso sale todos los días a la misma esquina, para montar un espectáculo callejero con un pequeño teatro que el mismo ha construído, lleno de marionetas de hojalata. - “Valparaizoo” de Claudio Díaz (Iconoanima), que presenta la vida en el Mercado Cardonal (Valparaíso) “un lugar lúdico, mágico y pintoresco enclavado en medio de los cerros y próximo al mar”.

One of the most relevant activities undertook by our Festival are the exhibitions of graphic material from animation, essential part of this audiovisual art. This year we wanted to give a special place to animation releases from 2014, which the first public exhibition will be in this edition from the festival. That’s why we will build up an exhibition of drawings and images that composed the most recent creations of national animation. The selection of pieces chosen to this exhibition wants to show a sample of the different techniques and styles presents on the contemporary animators from the country. With this goal we selected the material from three animation pieces which are relevant for his quality and particular esthetic. The works that take part of this exhibition are: - “Pachapulay” from Erwin Gómez (Spondylus Producciones). The sequel of the homonym science fiction novel, written and published by Hugo Silva. It takes place at the 2314 and tells the adventures of Inti, from the mythic PachaPulai. - “Historia de un oso” from Gabriel Osorio (PunkRobot) tells the story about and old bear who goes every day to the corner, to make a street show with a little theater built by himself, full of tin marionettes. - “Valparaizoo” from Claudio Díaz (Iconoanima), presents the life at Mercado Cardonal, a ludic, magic and colorful place inside the hills and close to the sea.

Exposición - Exhibition

Una de las actividades más destacadas que realiza nuestro festival son las exposiciones de material gráfico de animación, parte esencial de este arte audiovisual. Este año hemos querido darle un lugar especial a los estrenos de animación del 2014, cuya primera exhibición pública se realizará en la presente edición de CHILEMONOS. Para esto montaremos una exposición con los dibujos e imágenes que compusieron las más recientes creaciones de animación nacional.
