AMSA-Taiwan Asian Medical Student Association (AMSA) was officially founded in Manila, Philippines in 1985 and from this day has been an active, dynamic and exciting student-led, not-forprofit, non-political organization. AMSA-Taiwan is one of the nine AMSA co-founding members. In 1988, Federation of Medical Students-Taiwan (FMS-Taiwan) was officially founded in order to coordinate medical students in different chapters in Taiwan. Several years later, AMSA-Taiwan was separated as an self-operated department in FMS-Taiwan as a representative of Taiwan in AMSA International. AMSA Taiwan is now a vibrate and energetic organization which establish several activities locally and globally, and make strong connections between Taiwan medical students and other medical students’ organizations. Our main philosophies are: 1. Provide a platform for medical students to discuss medical relevant topics. 2. Gather the power and knowledge of medical students in giving back to society. 3. Improve communication between Asian medical students and Taiwanese medical students both academically and culturally.
AMSA-Taiwan consists of 15 member universities. A Local Coordinator (LC) is chosen for each university annually as the representative. Central cadres and LCs are the constitution of AMSA Taiwan. AMSA-Taiwan is managed by Central Executive Committee, which consists of medical students from Taiwan medical schools.

Ilha formosa!- the beautiful island, Taiwan Lying between Japan's southern Ryukyu Islands and the Philippines, this moun-tainous island nurtures a population descended from Han Chinese (partly Fujianese and Hakka) and aborigine.
Taipei, Taiwan The Taiwanese people have put out the welcome mat for the world to discover our colorful temples, traditional festivals, lively processions, hot springs and spas, one very tall skyscraper, and shops carrying herbal medicines and hightech gadgets.
Let's Feel Taipei!
As Taiwan's political, economic and cultural heart, Taipei sits inland from Taiwan's northern coast, filling a wide basin backed by mountains. This city is relatively medium-sized among metropolitans around the world. Considered to be a global city, Taipei is part of a major industrial area. Railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island.
Easy Card, Easy Go! To get around the city, Taipei Metro, called the MRT provides excellent transport consists of over 100 stations and 11 lines. To use the transit system, purchase an "Easy Card" that costs about $1 USD for a single ride. The High Speed Rail takes you to farther cities on the island in a very short time. Don't worry about getting lost because all routes and schedules are also written in English. The city also has a very efficient bus system and the service can be paid for in cash or by "Easy Card". Taxies are quite affordable as well, costing around $10 USD to any main attractions in the city. We also have Ubike system located near every MRT stations that provide you with low cost, short range bicycles, and of course, paid by Easy Card.
Shopping, Dining and Nightlife Taipei is an endless emporium so to speak, since every corner of the city has numerous shopping areas. However, the shopping district can be divided into two different sections: East and West. The Eastern District is made up of boulevards with four main shopping malls, while the Western District (also known as the old city district) is composed of narrow streets and smaller shopping centers. Restaurants are also packed within the city. The Shihlin Night Market is one of the best places to try out Taiwanese cooking. However, there are also many restaurants that serve almost every type of food in the world. For an excellent night out, head to bars like the ZigaZaga, Carnegies, Luxy, Room 18 and Taiwan Beer Bars.

The theme of this conference is “Medical care in the future: tendency and development. Using a human figure and a hidden letter "H" to represent the heart of all medical care should be focused on making human much healthier, and an arrow symbolized the force that brings us to the future. Thus, by this logo, we'd like to inspire all the medical students to work tightly for a better health care future.
Schedule
Theme Proposal 1.  Background and Current Issues With the innovations and improvements in health care industry, we are in face of a inevitable change in the current health care system. First we examine our conditions for an aging Baby Boomer population. In 2010, the elderly population in Asia accounts for 50.3% of that all over the globe, and the proportion will rise to 60.7% in 2060. New medicines are constantly being developed to prevent, treat and manage the condition, focusing more and more on genetic and other molecular-based tests. These advances in health care technology will provide more tests that reveal whether people are likely to respond well to specific drug treatments, meaning a more targeted, individualized approach for each patient. Another novel advance is the progression of Telemedicine, which utilizes modern technology such as the Internet and cloud computing to connect patients and physicians. Telemedicine allows physicians to interact with patients online in real-time, cutting back on time and expenses associated with the typical office visit. Telemedicine is a growing trend that will continue to progress as technology increases.
Theme Proposal 2. Purpose The health care system is undergoing changes. Everyone in the society especially us as medical students cannot sit on the sidelines. We should keep ourselves in the pace with the advanced technology and its applications, further to avoid the drawbacks. EAMSC 2016 Taiwan provides medical students in the region a platform for us to think about how we can take part in the trend
3. Subtitles Theme of EAMSC 2016 Taiwan is “Medical care in the future- tendency and development”. We will provide thorough and well- organized academic programs to help delegates get a whole picture of our theme in this conference, as well as to develop their own ideas and imagination of the issues. In this conference, we strike to create links among each academic program.
1
First part is “to acquire the basic skills and knowledge of medical care in the future”. At this part, we will be providing keynote lectures to give the delegates a brief structure of the medical care in the future. A visit to the Taipei Veterans General Hospital and National Taiwan University Hospital is organized to experience the latest research progress on the screening and research of neurodegenerative disease and the Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology- the best research centerof this category in Asia.
Theme Proposal
2
Second part is “to hear from different voice among industry, research and policies” . In this part, first we will be organizing a panel discussion cooperating with the company ”Genetics”, “Chi Mei Hospital” and Dr. Yu, Alice LinTsing. By this workshop, we plan to create a platform for delegates to think from different perspectives after acquiring adequate understanding toward this topic from the first part. Next we will also be preparing for a group discussion, which is in a debate format. All delegates will have a chance to reflect upon issues about medical care systems, moral problem of medical techniques and the problems we may face in the future.
First part Third part • Human Library • Creative poster campaign
• •
Keynote lectures Technical tour
(Taipei Veterans General Hospital and National Taiwan University Hospital )
Second part • panel discussion • group discussion (debate)
Third part is “to really feel the need of the present patients- in person and in mind ”. After discussing a lot about the topic, we hope to give the delegates not only the knowledge but also real experience of interacting with patients chosen in Telemedicine Center with hypertension, diabetes and severe cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, the community service of ”Human Library ” is held and at the end of the conference is the exhibition the works of the delegates in the hospital, aiming to provoke the awareness of future medical care. A creative poster campaign will be held to give unlimited freedom to all delegates to brainstorm and sum up what they learn through the academic programs.
3
Academic highlight Keynote Lectures The keynote lecture will be composed of two parts. In the first part, we will provide vision on how the patient-doctor relationship changes. The second part will be on more specific matters, extending to how information technology is applied on telecare for caring diabetes.

Introduction: The company ”Genetics” and “Chi Mei Hospital” cooperated to establish a center for genetics sequencing. The center provides its service from prenatal diagnosis, prevention of genetic disorder and the screening for the efficacy and potency of cancer medication. Dr. Yu, Alice Lin-Tsing is currently a distinguished Research Fellow in Genomics Research Center, Academia Sinica. Dr. Yu received “The 19 th Wang Min-Ning Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Development Medical Science and Technology, National Health and Society”. She has been devoted in to the field of translational medicine and aims to bridge the gap between laboratory research and clinical medicine. In this session, elite scholars and executive officer are invited to share their opinions on the future health care. The objective is to spur imagination and thoughts by combing the laboratory research and industrial perspectives.
Group Discussion (Debate Competition) 1. Theme: Medical care in the future-tendency and development 2. Targets: All delegates 3. Objective: All delegates will be divided into five groups. (A, B, C, D and E) Each group has four teams. These teams will debate on the topic about medical care systems, moral problem of medical techniques and the problems we may face in the future. Academic highlight Community Service 1. Theme: Human Library 2. Time: 120 minutes approximately. 3. Objectives: Human Library, originated from Denmark, is aimed to eliminate prejudice, stigma and the “unknown fear” of the society. We often unintentionally imagine ourselves interacting with others. However, we do not have access to the truth under the surface. The first step of comprehension is “direct contact.” Only when we step out the first step can we realize other dimensions rather than “fear” or “imagination,” which brings diverse possibilities for our society. We hope that by constructing a human book of patients cared with different patterns, family, and administrators; we can understand what clinical practice truly represents. The subjects will be reached through NTU Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital. Patients will be chosen in Telemedicine Center with hypertension, diabetes and severe cardiovascular diseases. Foundations for Rare Disorders or other associations for specific diseases will be contacted. The campaign will be held in both hospitals.
Visits to NTUH and VGH The entire delegates will be divided into two groups to NTUH and VGH. We hope to arrange at least ten human books for the delegates and borrowed by each small group. The campaign will last for 60 minutes and GM interpretation will be necessary. After reading the human book, photos should be taken. Due to the patient’s privacy, photos with direct appearance are not allowed. Articles and unique designs are highly recommended woven into the photos. We will ask to exhibit the works of the delegates in the hospital, aiming to provoke the awareness of future medical care.

Social Program
Social Program Pingxi The Pingxi Branch Railway is one of the most famous branching lines in Taiwan. There are six stations in Pingxi branch lines. You can bask in the old buildings during 1930~1940 at Jintong Station, also explore the local mining industry, or visit Shifen Waterfall at Shifen Station. On sunny days, the mists paint dazzling rainbows in the blue skies: a sight that has earned the waterfall pool the nickname of "Rainbow Pond. Not to mention the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival, which has been selected as one of the '10 must-go festivals'. In the past, those who worked or farmed in the mountains faced the risk of being robbed or killed, and they used lanterns to inform their families they were safe. The lanterns do not function as signals anymore, but are now used as symbols of peace and good fortune. You can enjoy some local snacks in Pingxi old street and fly the sky lanterns, on which you can write your wishes and prayers down.
Social Program Shilin Night Market Shilin Night Market is the largest night market in Taipei, and the most well-known as well. There are various cuisine in the night market, including steak, hot stuffed dumplings,
sliced noodles, liver soup, squid thick soup, oyster omelets, and much more to your desire. Don't miss the great bargains in the alleyways for clothing, gifts and daily goods.
Taipei 101 ĺ?°ĺŒ—101 Comprised of 101 floors aboveground and 5 floors under, the building was once the world tallest from 2004 to 2010. It has the fastest elevator in the present time, and was specially designed to withstand typhoons or earthquakes. From the observatory deck on 89th floor, you can enjoy the panoramic view of Taipei city. A multi-level shop-ping mall is adjoined to the tower house, with hundreds of stores, clubs and rest-aurants waiting for you to explore.
Social Program National Palace Museum
Having over 696,000 pieces of ancient Chinese artwork and artifacts, National Palace Museum is one of the largest and renowned museums in the world. The collection spans 8000 years, from the Neolithic age to the late Qing Dynasty, and most of which are high quality pieces from the collection of the ancient Chinese Emperor. One of the most well-known artifacts is the Jadeite Cabbage. Check out its vivid appearance, and you would hardly believe it is carved out of solid Jade.
Zhishan Garden Within the museum compound, there was the delicately built Zhishan Garden; constructed in Song and Ming Style, it covers an area of 1.88 hectares (18,800 m2). It combined the principles of Chinese architecture, feng shui, folklore and so forth. The garden contains numerous ponds and wooden pavilions. Here, you can imagine being in the ancient Chinese garden, experiencing the unique lifestyle of ancient scholars.
Post Conference Tour Feeling depressed of not having enough time to explore Taiwan during EAMSC due to hard work? Don't be! We have arranged a tour trip in Hualien as our post-conference tour site for you to experience the most of Taiwan.
Located on the east coast, Hualien embraces beautiful nature and remains untouched. On the west lies the grand Central Mountain Range and with Pacific Ocean on the east. Having the ideal location, Hualien is the perfect choice to savor the sights of lakes and mountains, abandon yourself to the allures of the sea, experience quaint indigenous cultures, or even loosen up in a relaxing hotspring bather. You'll find something in Hualien to satisfy you.
Local Trains As your train follows the North Link Railway along the coast, you will see high mountains on one side and azure seas on the other in an enchanting tableau of natural splendor. Along the way you will experience the changes of nature's handiwork. After the train rolls onto the Lanyang Plain your eyes will be filled with emerald-green rice fields and, in the distance, Turtle Island; once you pass through Su'ao the scenery racing by your window will change drastically, and majestic mountains and deep blue waters will immediately appear.
Taroko National Park Taroko became a national park in 1986, and is famous for its spectacular mountains and marble canyons. Taroko National Park centers around the Taroko Gorge, which provides the park‘s most famous scenic attractions with sights of majestic mountain streams, the Eternal Spring Shrine, Swallows’ Grottoes, Tunnel of Nine Turns (Jiuqudong), and other scenes of outstanding beauty-
Tunnel of Nine Turns The tortuous course cut by the river has produced a gorge of many curves, and the path of the highway that has been carved out of the cliff face here seems to be an endless aerie of turns. The marble cliff face opposite the highway varies in color from deep gray to pure white in a multitude of changing designs. A walk through the Tunnel of Nine Turns takes about 30 minutes and gives access to enchanting scenes of the gorge, the river, stone strata, the tunnel itself, and the surrounding vegetation. This is one of the most scenic parts of the gorge, and the best place to observe the gorge's ecology.
The Swallow Grotto (Yanzikou) The Swallow Grotto trail is the finest section of the entire Taroko, and it takes about 30 minutes to traverse on foot. Walking along the Swallow Grotto, you will see the gorges, natural sinkholes, water geysers, and the uniquely shaped "Rock of the Indian Chief". The reason behind these geographic forms is the river. This part of the river valley is extremely narrow and deep, therefore as the river comes through, a formation known in Chinese as "The one thread of Heaven" is created.
Shakadang Trail After passing through Shakadang Tunnel, you arrive at the entrance of Shakadang Trail. This trail was built for Liwu Power Generator during Japanese occupation, and served as one of the major external arteries to Datong, Dali and other tribal areas.
It is the best route to explore the Taroko traditional culture and evidence of their ecological philosophy. The trail was built along the cliff-edge. While walking on the trail, you can enjoy the verdant stream waters, beautiful rocks, and a lush forest landscape.

Hualien Cuisine Mochi
Wuhe Honeyscented Black Tea
Aboriginal Millet Wine
Hualien Mochi (sticky rice ball) is made from either glutinous rice or millet, and is called "dulun" by the Amis. Today, chewy and yummy Mochi is one of the most famous local spe-cialties in Hualien, with new flavors invented every now and then.
The leaves of Honey Black Tea is touched by Jacobiasca Formorsana during growing process, and then the bud is carefully picked and processed. Only fruity fragrance, without bitterness. Tender sweetness fills you.

Proposed conference fee
Most of the average expenses in Taiwan relatively low comparing to others, but it's still a challenging task to host a conference like this. The OC is working really hard to keep the conference fees of tier3 chapters within the recommendations of the bylaw in order to make this EAMSC affordable for all delegates. We are seeking every possible opportunity to lower the actual conference fee by the strong cooperation with public resources and relationships between alumni medical societies.
