OPERATION OF SPACE
Methodology Of Space Making
OPERATION OF SPACE A primary operation cuts strips from a big plane. A secondary operation scores and folds the strips into u-shaped units with varying proportions or directions. A tertiary operation combines the units which modifies the defined spaces and zones.
PLAN, SECTION AND DIAGRAM
We are asked to design a space as a living quarter for four people in a dimension of 6m x 12m x 24m. The quarter should provide four individual living spaces and series of shared space. This living quarter is open and free. The space may inspire people to have different usage of it. This time ,we need to make use of the design operation method. And the method should be set before starting the model.
The operation is developed over several stages. A block is cut regularly and when the pieces are shifted, they define space between them. There are cuts in all one direction and randomly shifts in four directions. A big block is cutted into small blocks of various sizes, according to the operation method. These smaller blocks contain space and define width space. Other hand, those bigger blocks contain space and define some narrow space.
The carving operation cuts and removes mass from the big block which becomes space. The carving is done with overlapping cuts. This creates clearly defined secondary spaces which are shared by two primary spaces each. Finally, I would like to choose carving(extrudion and intrudion) as my operation method. My operation concept is about extrution. And throught this simple rule to create a rich and special space. Those parts will be pressed out, and each surface will only have a part which is going to be extruded. At the end, those extruded or intruded part will come togather to the middle part which is extruded from the top surface.
Each living quater will have got a viewpoint. It is even the only one viewpoint of the quater.

Needless to say, it's difficult to stay calm in such situation. We tend to become confused, panic or even heated by anger. That won't help you much to get out of the will just make it worse; you are more likelt to make mistakes.
FINAL MODEL
But how do you stay calm when the situation goes bad? How do you calm your nerves while the world around you is falling down? I believe that a peaceful sapce can solve this promblem effectively. The core of this house aims to provide setting of calm, which the atmosphere is framed by concrete and wood. To enhance the minimalism layout design, I would like to make good use of the natural sunlight and there are only two kinds of materials applied. The materials provide two different feelings which are cold and warm although these two materials also represented calm and natural.THUS the minimalism design, the space coloured with peaceful and quiet. Without hurried movement, worries or noise, people can meditate deeply.

MASS ENVELOP FRAME
With the massing model, we then experiment the ways of Dissection and forming an literlocking of the mass.
This is a concept store selling fiction and novel, featured a home feeling of reading environment, it can be transform into 4 different parts, each area will have different arrangements that makes you feel you are reading at home.
MASS, ENVELOP, FRAME the form development is starrted with a stone
An architectural or interior model is a type of tangible and physical reprsentation of a design. It is an essential way to communicate design ideas to clients, committees and the general public. Rough, study models can be made quickly using cardboard, wooden blocks, polystyrene, foam boards and other materials. We are asked to bring into class three stones, with size not smaller then 20cm (length + width + height). Through the study of the unique form of each stone, we will produce Massing models to represent them. The process involves simulation, simplification of the complex form and justification with aesthetic sense.
With the envelop model, we then experiment the different ways of Perforation. The model have been made 'holes' on the surface, with different shapes, size and arrangement. Through this exercise, i explore the level of penetration and lighting quality for the interior. With the fram model, we then experiment the different ways of Wrapping the structure. The structure have been applied onto the clear, translucent, opaque surface. Through, we can explore the use of different transparency to form visual depth, layering of space and illusion.

DEVELOPMENT OF DIAGRAM
HKSC
What is a school ? Why do we have school ?
Learning ?
Installed on the rooftop of HKSC – Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, the installation which called as work lab. And 'THE PLACE OF MEDITATION' is a main ideal of the work lab.A leisure space will be biult along the atrium. It is designed as a place for meditating or relaxing. As there is a cemetery in frount of HKSC, and we all know that cemetery is a place which representing death, it becomes a big contract between a place that is full of energy (the schoo). And the atmosphere can be made use for creating a good place for inspiration and meditation.
We need school so as be taught how to grow upto be anything you choose in your right mind to be. You can as well be taught at home but at school, you meet different kinds of people with different ideas and you are able to share out the ideas. From my point of view, school is a place where lectures gave. And the main pupose of school is grouping students together in a centralized location for studying and also learning.
It is said that 'it might be good to add the idea oflearning bing benefical in some way to the idea of it being useful. Thus, we have learning is gaining knowledge of skill that is useful or benefical. But now, things will get complicated. Is that studying = learning? First, we need to define studying. What is studying? Someone says studying is to 'consider in detail and subject to an analysis in order to discover essential featuress or meaning.Cuslting my online dictionary, I get this: application of the mind to the acquisition of knowledge. It seems that learning is not the same as studying.
THE VIEW OF THE ATRIUM IS THE MOST ATTRACTIVE PART OF THE ROOF.
THE ATRIUM CAN BE THE CENTRAL PART OF THE WORK LABS' BEVELOPMENT.
A CENTRALIZATION OF THE ROOF CAN BE DONE.
THE VIEW OF ATRIUM AND CEMETERY CAN CREATE A ATMOSPHERE.
I think HKSC is a school which is focusing on arts and vreative trining, it should provide more and more leisure sapce and work space for their student. As the student said there is not enough studio for them to work. So we can make use of the rooftop and build up some space for leisure and work.
The way of learning: Visual (spatial): using pictures, images, and spatial understanding. Aural (musical): using sound and music. Verbal : using words, both in speech and writing. Physical : using your body, hands and sense of touch. Logical (mathematical) : using logic, reasoning and systems. Social (interpersonal) : to learn in groups or with other people.

PLAN OF 1/F
To put it in maths terms: studying = gaining knowledge , learning = studying that is useful
PLAN OF G/F
Much of what kids or students are taught in schools, anywhere in the world, is not learning because it is not so much useful. Yes, the students are studying, but they are not learning. I remember studying maths in scool. Unfortunately, I hated it. Iwas bored by it. However, I asked the teacher, 'Why are we learning this? I'll never use this.' That is one of the problems I see Hong Kong students are studying. They are gaining knowledge. Yes, that is great. However, they are gaining knowledge that may not useful to them, to their future, or to anything. Is this education? Is this learning? Or, is it only studying?

CONCEPT MATERIALS POSTURES
FUNCTIONALITY OF TOWEL A towel is a piece of absorbent fabric or paper used for drying or wiping. It draws moisture through direct contact, often using a blotting or a rubbing motion. Common household textile towels are made from cotton, rayon, bamboo, nonwoven fibers or a few other materials. A bath towel is used for drying the body after bathing, showering or swimming. It is typically rectangular, with a typical size around 30 in Ă— 60 in (76 cm Ă— 150 cm). A large bath towel is sometimes called a bath sheet. Towels are often used for purposes other than drying things. For example, To sit, lie and stand on, to avoid direct contact with the ground, sand, rock, chair, etc. This may be for hygiene and comfort, and in saunas or other places where nudity is common.
DESIGNING FLOW First of all, I think I want to create a sitting object which can provide a feeling like very soft and smooth. And somehow we can get the proctection from it. As I don't think that something providing protection which structure must be hard and strong. Finally, I find out that towel is just like a soft shield. It provides a protection for us when we were given birth ny our mother. And so as the aim of achieved the feeling of beingt protected and comforted, the sitting object needs to provide a posture that has profound meaning. That posture should give out a deeper feeling of being protected.
Absorption It can clean objects by absorbing the dirty things like bodily fluid and dusts.

Squeezing
Covering towel on ourselves can keep us warm when we are using it to clean our bodies after bath.
Squeezing is a passionate hug. You will only do it with someone who is very closed.
Shield
Protection
Although towel is very soft, it can act as a shield for new born babies by keeping them warmand protecting them from rough surface objects.
Towel is soft. People re eager to touch it, even when they are nude. The intimacy between prople and towel is everlasting.
I think towel is a kind of daily commodities. It is a personal product, we never lend our own towel to the others as the consideration of personal hygiene. Towel good at absorption, it will absorb our body smell, bodily fluid, once we used it, it belongs to ourselves. Why the new born babies need to be wrapped by towels? The answer is protect baby skin. Babies have extremely delicate and sensitive skin. So it is important that you have an absorbent towel which will dry them quickly.(Absorb their bodily fluid after they have born and protect them from the cold.)

WAN CHAI COMPUTER CENTRE
The 298 Computer Zone is a Hong Kong Computer Centre found in Wan Chai, on Hong Kong Island. This shopping centre spans many floors and sells computers, computer parts, accessories, peripherals, and anything else to do with computers. A shopping centre like this one can be a little intimidating at first. With so many shops crowded into a small area, you may not know where to begin. It’s a good idea to know what you want before you get there. This makes things a little easier because you’ll know which shops to go into, saving you from being in the mall all day. As mentioned, 298 Computer Zone is a interesting place with some messy spatial quality. Especially the layout of the small retail shop. Items sold at 298 Computer Zone are usually cheaper than what you’ll find in bigger electronics stores in Hong Kong, such as Broadway and Fortress. You can also try bargaining with the shop owners here. But items sold at 298 Computer Zone don’t come with a warranty, and some of the shops may only accept cash.

FORM MAKING
01
In my point of view, "life is like the flowing river. You can experience it, feel it, see it, become aware of it, but you can never catch it. It can be compared to catching the water flowing through in the river."
FORM is about form making, and leads to the exploration of the making of space, with the introduction of building componets. PROGRAM is about the understanding and critique on human activities and their correlation, and leads to the formulation of a design brief. REPRESENTATION is about communication and presentation of ideas.
In this project, we are going to develop a form by an adjective and the space should fulfill some specific programme. Finally, it is needed to achieveh the 'SMALL

Life's Simple Pleasures There are small things in life that just seem so nice! Though we often take them for granted, you know they're there, and making you feel good. These are things that we just... need. Things that make your day a little bit better.
CONCEPT DIAGRAMS
"Life is like the flowing river. It flows at different rhythms. Different rhythms will allocate different kinds of life or even activities. In fact, we have varwy kinds of activities in our daily life, just like river flowing at different rhythms. It is said that linking up those activities, it will form a flow. And a flow means our life." So I called my cabin as RIVER.
MOOD BOARD
To work or write at a creeper bordered window. To see the sunlight spread across the floor. To stand and look out without glare. To see the view, vegetation, trees, the ground while sitting. To see out from the bathromm or perhaps be doubly enclosed. To have easy access to possessions without sensing . To read in bed. To sit comfortortably and read or talk of an evening. To enjoy high ventilation in summer. To close wooden shutters in winter.
TESTING MODEL
On the hand of testing model, I would like to divide the cabin into five parts. And some programmes(the space requirements for use) will be allocated to those five parts. *(functions:Living room , studio , bed room , bath room)
